Since no one has started it yet, I thought I would.

Happy Rudolph Day

So come on, show us yours!

Meant to make a Christmas pudding today but failed although I did de clutter sitting area (half of dining room).

So sorry if we have already discussed it but which is your favourite Christmas pudding recipe?

TheWoollybacksWife · 25/11/2019 00:29

@lucysmam what about something like this fruit topped cake?

NoWordForFluffy · 25/11/2019 07:16

Marzipan is a bit grim, lucysmam!

EgremontRusset · 25/11/2019 23:26

Made the Christmas cake, with a nice single malt for poncing value Grin

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/11/2019 15:59

@SlatternIsTrying I did my own paper last year and just wrapped in brown then stamped names or initials all over once wrapped.

I've missed this thread as it doesn't move up my list for some reason.
This week I've been making ribbon garlands for the pta Christmas workshop, Metres of the stuff.
And some rather nifty little Velcro ribbon fixings which will attach them to the pE apparatus

I make these every year for my own home theme, this time I've bought blue, white, pink, silver and glittery to make them for my lounge. The decs will go up on Sunday- I can't wait!

I will add as well, if you are looking for Christmas bits, try your local charity shops, they get inundated with stuff and have such a short window to get rid of it. I've bought ten glass baubles for a pound today and a snow flocked artificial tree for my outdoor display for £10. Last year I bought giant baubles (20 Cm) for only pennies each and they were selling on eBay for £££.

livingthegoodlife · 26/11/2019 19:03

Poncing with mince pies. I made 28 and they lasted one weekend ... Better get baking again!

Not poncing as such but made bubble and squeak ready for Boxing Day and froze it .
Narcissi are looking good and are about 4inches tall .
Nearly finished knitting “Father Christmas’s Washing Line” will post a photo when done .

About to do American Christmas Dinner, Round 1, aka Thanksgiving, on Thursday. Wish me luck!

NoWordForFluffy - that is gorgeous Star

mathanxiety · 27/11/2019 04:25

@thenewaveragebear1983 - I second that.

I bought two packs of Ikea Scandinavian tomten tree ornaments from goodness knows when, both in their original packing (cute little baskets) and a pack of green glass baubles (Martha Stewart brand) that are glass, not shiny/foil-looking.

I will add thin white ribbon to the tomten and the baubles to hang on the tree. DD1 bought me a set of 18 little glass baubles many years ago, in a school Christmas jumble sale. They came with white ribbon attached and the white vertical lines looked lovely against the green tree.

Heading to the local Christkindlmarkt for more Swedish straw ornaments this weekend.

@lucysmam
This cake is lovely:

It's even pictured naked. Brush with heated, sieved brandy and apricot jam to seal it. My mum arranged blanched almonds on top of her cake one year when she forgot to buy marzipan. Twas very artistic.

NoWordForFluffy · 27/11/2019 06:16

How many are you catering for, math? Good luck!

I've maxed out on baubles this year. If I have a branch without one on it'll be some form of miracle. Xmas Grin

mathanxiety · 27/11/2019 21:02

There will be five of us for breakfast and dinner, NoWordForFluffy.

Pecan pie and pumpkin pie are already made, and stuffing for the bird is next. Hopefully said bird will be defrosted by tomorrow around 2pm.

DS has been conscripted to buy more potatoes, and sausages for breakfast.

Just heard a maintenance man arriving at the apartment on the first floor and my neighbour complaining about either heat or water. We share the same furnace, and come to think of it it has been a bit chilly here today and yesterday. I have some plug-in radiators and space heaters, and the oven is seeing plenty of action today and tomorrow, so we're not going to freeze.

NoWordForFluffy · 28/11/2019 06:19

I hope you have the heating sorted, Math.

Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy your meal.

Vebrithien · 01/12/2019 21:06

My wreath! Had a 3 hour workshop, and learnt how to make the willow base wreath, then attach the foliage and decorations.
I had so much fun!

Trumpton · 01/12/2019 21:11

Oh that’s lush . I need to get my bases out and re-foliage them .

NoWordForFluffy · 01/12/2019 21:12

Ah, that's beautiful! Well done!

NerosFiddle · 01/12/2019 21:38

Love your wreath.

Outtheforest · 03/12/2019 05:40

The wreath is beautiful!
I'm wondering if I should attempt to make one out of bits from my garden, but I don't know where to start.
I was hoping to have time to make a Christmas embroidery hoop to hang above the fire but I dont think I will. Still have 4 more cards to make and three stockings.

Outtheforest · 03/12/2019 05:42

Also does anyone have any suggestions for side dishes and desserts that are fool proof? I'd like to offer to take some things to my host but I'm a genuinely awful cook. Sadly not in the UK so my tactic of some prepared stuff won't work

NoWordForFluffy · 03/12/2019 13:54

Nigella has an amazing (and easy) white chocolate cheesecake.

Trumpton · 03/12/2019 19:56

Narcissi paperwhite are looking good . I tipped out the water ( I grow them on pebbles ) and replaced water with alcohol solution ratio 1/7 . This stunts the green stems and leaves but doesn’t affect the flowers .
Ordered peacock coloured ribbon to hang my cards from .

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/12/2019 22:29

Made a bauble mantle garland yesterday with my friend. Sooooo easy! Photo will look better in daylight I think

I've also been planning my Christmas table- I'm not doing crackers this year, but instead we're doing little brown paper bags with items bought from the charity shop- scarf for mum, brackets for Dd, Dsis, books for dad and bil, with jokes and facts written by Ds and decorated with glitter etc. They won't be in the slightest bit poncetastic, but I'm quite excited about doing them!

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 07/12/2019 08:21

Trumpton, do you have a photo?

Bear, that's lovely! 🎄

I'm on Snowman cross stitches for the kids now. Once they're done I'll be spending an evening framing those, the Snowdog ones and the recent tree one.

The hurricane vase in the middle is mine, the rh one is for my neighbour and the lh one for Dd.
The greenery should grow a bit more but should not get floppy and leggy .
I have pine cone on sticks to add and baubles on sticks .
