Happy Rudolph Day

Cute cakes, new!

I've had 2 more cross stitches delivered. Snowman ones to go with the Snowdog ones I've already done! I need to give up work to get all my projects done!

ComeTheFuck0nBridget · 05/11/2019 20:56

@thenewaveragebear1983 they look so cute! I'd love to have a go at some mini ones, did you have to adjust the time they cooked for by much?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/11/2019 22:24

@ComeTheFuck0nBridget no, they actually took a surprisingly long time to cook! I did them for 1hr at 130 and then kept checking them, they eventually took around 1hr 15-20 mins.

Outtheforest · 06/11/2019 06:05

@thenewaveragebear1983 those cakes are so cute, wish I liked Christmas cake just so I could make some.

My search for appetite cards failed me so I found some nice coloured card and a paper knife and am hoping to be able to make some reasonable looking ones myself. Still got 7 cross stitches to go though before they need posting the first week of December Blush

@EvenFlo2, our cranberry vodka only took 2 weeks (and is really nice!).

Loving the washi tape! The bauble is lovely!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/11/2019 07:13

@Outtheforest these are for little gifts hampers for family members and for the kids teachers (we have 7 in total because of all the groups they attend!) - I've also done little spider plants in vintage teacups for some of the teachers.

(The family hampers will also contain hot choc stirrers and a jar of homemade jam or marmalade)

EvenFlo2 · 06/11/2019 07:30

The recipes for infused vodka say the kilner jars need to be sterilised...?

NoWordForFluffy · 06/11/2019 07:37

We used a Milton tablet.

Trumpton · 06/11/2019 08:29

I used boiling water ( sometimes ) alcohol is a cleaner ! Right ?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/11/2019 08:33

I think you can also sterilise jars by putting them in the oven, (not the lids though)

starryeyedsnowgirl · 06/11/2019 09:39

Put them through the dishwasher on a hot cycle then use them right away. That will be fine.

EvenFlo2 · 06/11/2019 10:30

I’m getting excited about making the booze now!

Outtheforest · 06/11/2019 16:59

@flouncyfanny thankyou but sadly I'm not in the UK and theirs no way they will get to the country I'm in with time for me to then make them up and post them. I should've been more organized

lucysmam · 06/11/2019 18:09

Practise run card done; the back side is all stuck down with tape so there's no extra bulk, so I will have to cut a square to cover it in the proper ones.

I'm quite pleased with it! Just hope my friend's remembered to pick up cards for me tonight now.

mathanxiety · 06/11/2019 20:38

My mum used to sterilise jars for jam in the oven after soaking in Milton. The lids were soaked in Milton and then boiling water immediately before sealing the jars.

TheWoollybacksWife · 06/11/2019 22:17

@lucysmam I have done sewn cards before and I find it neater to do the sewing on a plain piece of card and then mount that on my folded card using sticky pads.

lucysmam · 07/11/2019 06:55

@TheWoollybacksWife I'll try that, thanks!

I have all morning free so may get the sewing machine out and put together the runner.

And fruit for our cake is soaking too! I've managed to be quite productive Xmas Smile

Vebrithien · 07/11/2019 07:01

The cards are all soooo pretty! I've had to draw the line at cards this year, however 3yo DD has a set of colour in children's cards that she is SUPER excited to be colouring for her friends and grandparents Grin

I've been poncing (ponceing?) with preserving this last week or two. Have made two sorts of Christmas chutney (with a third sort planned for next week) and Christmas jam (sooo yummy that DD attacked the leftovers with bread sticks, shovelling it into her mouth!) Have made 35 jars so far, some for eating, some for presents and the surplus for selling at work.

Trumpton · 09/11/2019 17:44

Finished my cards . Just waiting for the stickers for inside to arrive . Then I can put stamps on them and they will be ready for posting . I am having a big operation on 26th and won’t be home until at least the 10th December so am doing everything early .
I have has a lovely afternoon with Washi tape and felt tips ...releasing my inner child and making a special card for each recipient . But only for those who I know appreciate home made cards !

I have the Paperwhite narcissi bulbs ready to set going .

Sunroom now painted a sparkly peacock blue . Just need to make table runner... I have the fabric .

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 09/11/2019 19:04

My first attempt at a Pom Pom wreath, it’s for my grandmas grave (she was a fabulous knitter and loved fake flowers especially if they were bright and glittery)

It's poncetastic 2019!
TheWoollybacksWife · 09/11/2019 19:18

That's brilliant @Allmyarseandpeggymartin I'm sure your grandma would be proud.

@Trumpton you have been busy. Best of luck for your operation.

Any Christmas crafting is on hold as I'm trying to get some baby knitting and crochet done ready for taking to family later this month but I have got all the fabric ready to do my tree angel.

This week I have made stuffing balls and pigs in blankets for the freezer and I'm hoping to do a Yule log this week.

I've also got a place on a wreath making course for early December and the timing is perfect as I'm planning to put my tree up the following day.
