I bought my first present today, it’s just a stocking filler for DS, but starting to get excited now. We’ll be going for a walk around the park tonight before school tomorrow but it’s feeling so autumnal already

BiddyPop · 02/09/2019 16:22

I'm not even posting my list, it's way too long. But there is a need for an excel spreadsheet involved, to track the presents AND the budget!

Mrsmadevans · 02/09/2019 21:08

Evening everyone,
Have been off the thread lately because my friends DD was found dead in her flat on Saturday afternoon, she was only 28 and has a lovely little boy nearly two, so l have been talking , ringing , texting her and trying to be there for her . It's so tragic. Sad
Hope everyone is alright, sorry to put a downer on the thread Sad

NoWordForFluffy · 02/09/2019 21:19

Mrs 💐💐💐💐💐

Morning!

Isn't it funny how September started and the weather just switched to autumnal?! I wonder if we'll get an Indian Summer in the next few weeks? We seem to get one quite often, don't we?

I'm tired today, but it's my own fault. I went shopping last night and then because I sat down late, stayed up late! Must go earlier tonight. Looks like there's a new drama which looks interesting on BBC1 tonight. Must try to remember to watch.

Arrow, if you knit at all, twiddle muffs for dementia are v easy and quite quick to make.
I've made some for local hospital.
If anyone would like the pattern, google Oxford University Hospitals Twiddle Muff. Good for using up any odds and ends - can use any colour chunky or double strand DK.
Here's one of mine.

I just wish I'd known about them when my poor mother had dementia.

AMidsummersNightsNightmare · 03/09/2019 15:48

Hey can I join?. My DC’s went back to school this morning and the walk to school was so autumnal!. So I’m feeling super Christmassy. I’m already planning everything for our Christmas Eve box

NoWordForFluffy · 03/09/2019 17:57

I love that idea, @GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER.

I finally got £1 dark chocolate oranges today. They'll go in the stockings instead of satsumas (only DS likes satsuma). I'm getting there slowly!

It's definitely autumnal. It's too exciting! 🍁 🍂

Arrowfanatic · 03/09/2019 18:11

Thank you @GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER its awkward because she's not yet at the stage where she's gone totally loopy, child like or whatever. She was always an awkward, anti social, anxiety driven person and thus far the dementia is more just enhancing those sides of her. She knows what she likes and refuses to change even when its best for her.

She just has no interests, never has. Shw just followed my wonderful grandad around from the day they met, he couldn't even go to the tip without her joining him. The only activity in her life was housework, and still is although shes less capable now.

Its so hard to explain what shes like. She's this tiny little pixie of a woman, barely 4 stone and 4 feet tall but stubborn as a mule.

AMidsummersNightsNightmare · 03/09/2019 20:59

@Arrowfanatic ah bless, does she still like any food maybe?. Could you buy her some of that?. Or maybe some smellies, if she still remembers to keep clean, or maybe it would remind her to do so. Or if she likes cleaning maybe a hamper with some nice cleaning products in, unless she’d take offence to it.

It’s so autumnal Fluffy, it was freezing here by us this morning. We had to put of dressing gowns on, won’t be long before the heatings back on!.

ChristmasInJuly · 03/09/2019 22:10

Hello, adding my voice to those saying how Autumnal it feels now. I’m thanking the weather gods for allowing summer to hang on long enough for us to enjoy our holiday at the coast. It was lovely and sunny - but holidaying with 4 under 4s - wow, I need another holiday!
I’m in full Autumn mode now we’re home. I’ve also booked a Santa train for the 23rd December - we’ve never done one before so I’m looking forward to it.

CrazyBaubles · 03/09/2019 23:23

I'm so sorry MrsMad that sounds awful Thanks

I spent an hour updating my journal with present ideas yesterday - I have them in a random notebook and on my phone and decided to be a bit crafty. I drew a Christmas tree in the middle of the 2 pages and have divided the families up so their lists are outlines to look like presents Xmas Smile
Childish I know but I enjoyed it.

Another one here who has really enjoyed the turn in the weather, especially as it was my first day back in work for a month today 😔

Morning!

Wet, windy and miserable today. Definitely autumn! It's meant to be really windy later too. 💨

How did work go, Crazy?!

OP posts:
TheWoollybacksWife · 04/09/2019 09:13

We had rain overnight but it's bright and just a touch crisp this morning. I deposited DS at the station after taking the obligatory first day of school photo. He looked a bit nervous but excited to go and meet up with his mates. I also took one of DD1 when she left - she was also nervous but she's the teacher so she's got to get over it fast! 😂

I'm taking DD2 shopping later and using the opportunity to take note of the shades and brands of makeup she's buying as I need to get foundation for her stocking and she only likes the ££ stuff so it would be an expensive mistake to make.

AMidsummersNightsNightmare · 04/09/2019 09:26

It’s meant to rain at pick up time today, I don’t actually mind it as it’s an excuse to get the macs and the wellies out. We’re going for a walk around the woods tonight, so hopefully it’s a bit windy and we can put out big coats on

CrazyBaubles · 04/09/2019 12:09

Fluffy work was actually ok! It's busy as some stuff has been piled up and left for me in anticipation of my return but all the work I delegated has been handled, I've actually been really impressed given how long I was gone (a whole month)!

Good thinking re monitoring the make up Woolly

Midsummer I love it when it's time for the big coats to come on!
Im actually wearing boots for the first time in months today and its making me want to wrap up warm.

Plan for today is to get through my workday, do some admin / phone calls on lunch while walking through town then have something out of the freezer for tea, walk the dogs then relax with my JO Christmas book and look for somewhere for Christmas lunch while we're away 🎄

NoWordForFluffy · 04/09/2019 14:32

Are you actually away for Christmas itself, Crazy? Did you say you're off to Scotland?

I'd think places would already be booking up, won't they? Best get going!

God almighty you will be thinking l am lying/attention seeking like the trolls they get here. l am not honestly .l don't know what the hell is going on in my life atm. My friend lost her 28 yr old DD last Saturday which l told you all about and Monday my 38 yr old niece lost her Dh . He was only 46 very fit and healthy, very slim , non smoker, not much alcohol. He went out for a run and when he didn't come home , she kept ringing his mobile and it was answered by the police. He had been found by a member of the public at the side of the road collapsed. They did CPR but he was dead. They have a boy 9 and a girl 6 . It's a terrible shock. I don't know how she will cope . Sorry to tell you all this . Here is normally such a fun happy place.Sad
It is just unbelievable.

Mrsmadevans · 04/09/2019 17:37

I nearly forgot it is our 37th wedding Anniversary today , what a bloody nightmare . Must be the worst Anniversary we have ever had. We got each other a card and managed to write in it and that is it Hmm

Mrsmadevans · 04/09/2019 17:45

Crazy are you going to Scotland for Christmas ohhh that would be just amazing l think Smile
Fluffy , the dark choc oranges are they vegan m'dear? I am wondering if they are for DD1 to have. Thank you Fluffy Smile
Woolly that is a great idea , l have already bought 2 sets of Clinique step 3 face cleanser for both DD'S only difference is they are Aldi's version of Clinique at 4.99 instead of 44.99 Grin
I think l am a bit hyper it's all these poor young ppl passing away , it does stuff to your brainbox l reckon, l mean it just isn't meant to be like this, there is my Mum nearly 88 still here and ordering everyone about and my Dad nearly 89 when he passed and there are these kids dying , just doesn't make any sense at all Hmm

Mrsmadevans · 04/09/2019 17:46

GBBO and Holby are the only thing keeping me sane atm Hmm

TheWoollybacksWife · 04/09/2019 18:32

Bless you MrsMad. Life is just too cruel sometimes.

Congratulations on your anniversary. DH and I don't even exchange cards so you are doing better than us. Our actual anniversary is in a few days time - we just celebrated at the bank holiday for convenience of travel for our rellies.

I didn't get DD's foundation as the giants Boots didn't stock it. We do have plans to go to the Birmingham Christmas market in late November so she's going to look at the shops in Brum and then I'll get her sister to distract her and get some.

We had to nip to Tesco last night for a few bits for DD1&2. They were stocking the "Seasonal" aisle with Christmas stock - DD2 walked past it verrrrrry slowly 6 times trying to get a glimpse of the shiny stuff.

NoWordForFluffy · 04/09/2019 18:56

Mrs, how awful. I'm so so sorry. What a shock for you. Flowers

No, the choc oranges aren't vegan, but they've less milk than a milk choc one so it's better for them.

Check out Moo Free for vegan chocolate though. They're proper vegan.

Woolly, shame about the foundation. Next time!

We swap cards for our anniversary, but that's it. It's coming up next month.
