Jingle those bells because it’s time for thread 1!

The aim of this thread is to share ideas for Christmas bargains and present ideas and a little bit of Christmas chat etc. I’ll try my best to do a post with the most popular links, if there’s anything specific you’d like me to add or if something I’ve put up doesn’t work please let me know in bold . Thank you

As usual no affiliate links (I’m still not exactly sure what they are but consensus was not to have them) and if we have any sites to post personal sign up links we’ll do this on a separate thread so all can post their links, I’ll do this when —I get around to it— soon.

Place marking too. At the moment I have bought my DD a pre packed stocking from Hawkins bazaar as they are half price at £12.50 instead of £25, and then I bought Polly pockets from Smyth's that were buy one get one free, they are £4.99 each.

My daughter wants the Lego Harry potter advent calendar this year but seen that it's £30 on pre order and im not sure if I want to pay that.

Also my daughter is after the Lego friends heartlake city resort set. I have seen it for £70, but wondering if anyone has seen it cheaper.

rainbowstardrops · 19/08/2019 10:19

I'm hoping for some inspiration from here!

I have a 19 yr old DS who is away at uni and a 14 yr old DD. Neither tend to ask for specific things and so it's incredibly hard to think of things each year!

Has anyone got any ideas???

Cocoismydog · 19/08/2019 10:27

Hello and thank you for the thread. I’ve bought a couple of bits for my DC but have a long way to go and need to be more careful this year. If anyone knows if Lush ever do special offers or discounts near to Christmas, I would love to hear. The bath bombs are my daughter’s favourite but they are so expensive!

Cocoismydog · 19/08/2019 10:31

Rainbow - At that age most teens seem to want clothes. What about sports stuff, a new bag for DD, a magazine subscription, smelly stuff, cushion for bedroom, new lamp, dressing gown, pjs, neon sign for DD, cinema tickets.

Whitecandle · 19/08/2019 10:31

@rainbowstardrops for DD - phone case (you can get designer ones for under £30) Makeup. Any new hair products/straighteners needed? Cuddly throw/cushions for her bed. Reed defuser for bedroom. Underwear. Pjs. Dressing gown. Slipper socks. Nice new outfit for Christmas Day. Costume jewellery (primark is fab).

None are main presents but trying to think of stuff I would like when I lived at home.

Only 23 now and lived at home until 20.

Whitecandle · 19/08/2019 10:34

@rainbowstardrops - @Cocoismydog gave me an idea for you then. Maybe one of those light up boxes? The ones you can put letters on. Like this

I know most people won’t want to do this, but it does save money and it can be fun (not if you’re not into crafts though) - try making your own bath bombs diyprojectsforteens.com/diy-bath-bombs-recipe/

Wehttam · 19/08/2019 10:37

Funnily enough we were planning Christmas last night. Think we are going to my sisters, there will be about 9/10 of us. We’re redecorating her living room so the colour scheme will be better with the decorations hahaha, my interfering control freak side strikes again Grin

Back on topic though, I did well in Homebargains last year for DN3. I have niece and nephew with birthdays very close to Xmas too so I have to be super organised.

Whitecandle · 19/08/2019 10:41

@0ttoline what ages are your DC? My little boy will be nearly 1 by Christmas and was going to get these after you posted them but don't know if I'm wasting money ordering 4 for the free delivery!

stuckfornamesargh · 19/08/2019 10:50

Oooh I love this thread, thanks @Reastie!

ImNotHappyaboutitPauline · 19/08/2019 11:04

@Cocoismydog Lush really don't tend to do reductions, if anything they seem to be getting more expensive! I saw this site bombcosmetics.co.uk/gift-packs recommended on MN last year. They're cruelty free, handmade and much better value than Lush.

I got the chocolate ballotin collection for dd for Xmas which she loved. She also got the Lemon Aid one from her uncle which was gorgeous and I've since gifted them to teen and adult Lush fans who've been delighted with them. I'll definitely be buying from them again this year.

BestofLuck · 19/08/2019 11:09

There seem to be lots of good suggestions for you already @rainbowstardrops and I'd second things around the home that aren't what you'd necessarily get round to buying for yourself. Reed diffusers are a good idea. Pjs. Bought my 16-year-old niece one of those salt lamps for her birthday which went down well.

Cocoismydog · 19/08/2019 11:11

Imnothappy thank you, will take a look at the site.

Theimpossiblegirl · 19/08/2019 11:41

There are always Bomb Cosmetics deals on Amazon, as well as good black Friday deals.

Wehttam · 19/08/2019 12:10

I find as long as the gift wrapping is on point then you can make anything look fabulous.

HobbyIsCodeForDogging · 19/08/2019 12:18

I've ordered the Lumea after checking Amazon's deal of the day and price history on camelcamelcamel. I see it's already been flagged up here too Grin
It's an excellent price for that model.

SquintEastwood · 19/08/2019 12:20

I think that's the first time I've ever managed to find a useful deal... Now if anyone could find a Switch under £100 I'd be grateful 😂

0ttoline · 19/08/2019 12:25

Whitecandle I've bought the puppets for kids aged 0-4, I think they'll all like them, but it is my 2yo who's particularly into doing pretend puppet shows. I hope they'll be fun for the babies to have shows done for them too.

101Robin · 19/08/2019 12:32

Cocoismydog Lush only do one sale a year and it's on Boxing Day. They'd bin product before they discounted it. Drives me mad because I've been asked for Lush this Xmas and 3 small items is easily £15

MooPointCowsOpinion · 19/08/2019 12:36

Yes!!!! This is exactly what I needed today!
Serious question, my friend said to me yesterday she’s ordering loads of presents now because she’s worried that after brexit supply chains could be affected. I wonder how many people here are doing the same? I don’t want anyone to argue, please not on Xmas bargain thread day, it’s my favourite day! Just from a practical point of view, are you buying more now?

Scruffalicious · 19/08/2019 12:39

I plan on buying Perfume Parlour scents as stocking fillers. I've also requested a 24-bottle deal on their page for a build-your-own advent calendar Grin

Cocoismydog · 19/08/2019 13:10

101Robin that’s my problem, to make a Lush present look decent you need a few bombs and they are about £6 or £7 each. You could easily spend £50 without thinking.

margaritasbythesea · 19/08/2019 13:35

I can recommend Bomb Bath bombs. They usually are lots in Black Friday deals on amazon

BadgerFace · 19/08/2019 14:25

I have just bought myself a Phillips Lumea, thanks for the tip! I have ummed and for years on one of these and had made a note to finally try and buy one on Black Friday so this has saved me that job!
