2019 Christmas bargains thread 1

Jingle those bells because it’s time for thread 1!

The aim of this thread is to share ideas for Christmas bargains and present ideas and a little bit of Christmas chat etc. I’ll try my best to do a post with the most popular links, if there’s anything specific you’d like me to add or if something I’ve put up doesn’t work please let me know in bold . Thank you

As usual no affiliate links (I’m still not exactly sure what they are but consensus was not to have them) and if we have any sites to post personal sign up links we’ll do this on a separate thread so all can post their links, I’ll do this when —I get around to it— soon.

Checking in, anyone seen any Christmas magazines on the shelves yet? I’m sure there’s usually one out by now.

Jammiebammie · 18/08/2019 19:21

Thanks again reastie and huge congratulations on the birth of your DS Flowers

JurassicShay · 18/08/2019 19:35

I started my Xmas bidding today (ebay) the pre teen has asked for Gucci ShockHmm have found a lovely cheapish compact mirror which hopefully she will be happy with. I did tell her her expectations were a little high & her reply was I know it's expensive so I'll be happy with fake Grin
Will definitely not be buying fake so the compact it is.

On the look out for an things to go in ds10 stocking, he has adhd & tends to break everything so probably of the consumable variety.

Millie2013 · 18/08/2019 19:44

I went to a large garden centre today with DD and my mum and was delighted to see some christmas stuff being introduced, My mum, less so!
I need to think of something for my 6yo DD, who has a rather active brain and isn't mega keen on regular toys, She's got loads of books, but can always make room for a couple more. Loves soft toys, but we're reaching capacity. She loves crafts and stationery, but we've got loads of stuff she's yet to use.

Isadora2007 · 18/08/2019 19:45

@millie2013
What about spy gear for your daughter? Or science sets like a microscope etc?

ImNotHappyaboutitPauline · 18/08/2019 19:53

@Millie2013 have a look at BrightMinds for your dd. A certain amount of it is regular toys, crafts etc but over the years I've found the site good for ideas a bit different from the standard toy store offerings. They're not cheap but if you see something you hadn't thought of you can always google to see if it's available elsewhere at a better price.

Wicked Uncle can be good too.

Luxplus · 18/08/2019 19:53

In dd1 nusery they have an IT room with among others programming toys like robots, dd1 is very kean on these so were wondering if similiar existed for home use? Anybody know of any?

MsMiaWallace · 18/08/2019 20:04

My boys are after a Nintendo switch this year.
Are they worth it???

ImNotHappyaboutitPauline · 18/08/2019 20:08

@Luxplus is it coding toys like this sort of thing?

www.learningresources.co.uk/category/coding-programming-resources

If so there's a lot of them around, they're pretty popular Smile.

DownstairsMixUp · 18/08/2019 20:14

Anyone here do park? First year I've used them.when do the vouchers get delivered?

sonicshoegazes · 18/08/2019 20:14

Hello all, place marking as well. I'll be here with a vengeance once it's been my sons birthday-that's when Christmas shopping begins.

Luxplus · 18/08/2019 20:15

@ImNotHappyaboutitPauline oh my..... What an amazing site Smile thank you so much Flowers my dd1 love these kinds of toys and activities

ImNotHappyaboutitPauline · 18/08/2019 20:18

Aw you're welcome Grin.

MichonnesBBF · 18/08/2019 20:35

@DownstairsMixUp I get the park vouchers every year, I receive mine mid Oct ish because I pay double in the January to knock a month off I think usually it is November.

KitKatCHA · 18/08/2019 20:39

Placemarking!

Luxplus · 18/08/2019 20:40

@ImNotHappyaboutitPauline thank you
That was exactly what we were looking after. Do you by any chance know of any robots to recommend? There seem to be numerous to choice from. Or any recommendations for start out programming? Thank you yet again

101Robin · 18/08/2019 20:54

Has anyone made the 3 for 3 at Claire's work? Is it full price items only? It says exclusions apply but won't say what they are.

DownstairsMixUp · 18/08/2019 20:55

Thanks!

Vikki89 · 18/08/2019 21:19

Givealittlebit · 18/08/2019 21:24

Jumping on board! Got a few little bits off the prequel thread already which I'm chuffed with!
Due end of Jan so hoping to be as sorted as possible for a nice lazy Christmas

ImNotHappyaboutitPauline · 18/08/2019 21:26

@Luxplus I couldn't confidently advise because we hadn't really gone for coding type toys at your dds age, largely because what was available was v expensive and we were reluctant to spend @ 150 on something the dc might at 4 ish not be very interested in. I think there are much more affordable options even just in the last few years.

Also I'm the low tech parent in this house. I can only just use my IPad Blush so I can't pretend I know much!

This might be useful - www.madeformums.com/reviews/best-coding-toys/

We're thinking about the LEGO boost for ds 8 this year but undecided.

Luxplus · 18/08/2019 21:51

@ImNotHappyaboutitPauline thank you for the link and the great help..
I'm not technical either at all Blush
Sadly no nothing about Lego either Blush because none of dds os interested in Lego.

MichonnesBBF · 18/08/2019 21:52

I have just been on the site @101Robin, All products in the offer were labelled 3for3 under the individual photo, I have just saved £17 and it means bearing a few chocs, sweets and money cards she receives from relatives, DDs stocking is pretty much done.

Luxplus · 18/08/2019 22:07

Just checked out the recommended programming toys for children and the "award winner" is on sale on Amazon atm, <a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=<a class="break-all" href="https://www.[[//amazon.co.uk/John-Adams-10622-Science-Multi-Colour/dp/B07FTZQ8L7&ved=2ahUKEwiwqvORqY3kAhUuz6YKHShYB9EQFjAEegQIAhAB&usg=AOvVaw3O_WXrf6AfJYd4PMDbUCV7?tag=mumsnetforu03-21"" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.[[//amazon.co.uk/John-Adams-10622-Science-Multi-Colour/dp/B07FTZQ8L7&ved=2ahUKEwiwqvORqY3kAhUuz6YKHShYB9EQFjAEegQIAhAB&usg=AOvVaw3O_WXrf6AfJYd4PMDbUCV7?tag=mumsnetforu03-21" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">amazon.co.uk/John-Adams-10622-Science-Multi-Colour/dp/B07FTZQ8L7&ved=2ahUKEwiwqvORqY3kAhUuz6YKHShYB9EQFjAEegQIAhAB&usg=AOvVaw3O_WXrf6AfJYd4PMDbUCV7]]

StrumpersPlunkett · 18/08/2019 22:11

Thanks for the thread again this year @Reastie
Ds1 is harder each year. He is 15 interested in designer brands sport and computer games.
We are holding off 18 rated games for another year at least much to his disgust.
We do stockings as well.
