Jingle those bells because it’s time for thread 1!

The aim of this thread is to share ideas for Christmas bargains and present ideas and a little bit of Christmas chat etc. I’ll try my best to do a post with the most popular links, if there’s anything specific you’d like me to add or if something I’ve put up doesn’t work please let me know in bold . Thank you

As usual no affiliate links (I’m still not exactly sure what they are but consensus was not to have them) and if we have any sites to post personal sign up links we’ll do this on a separate thread so all can post their links, I’ll do this when —I get around to it— soon.

Dd would like the smiggle advent calendar but I refuse to pay so much and it’ll never go down!

Are the Hawkins bizarre stockings good?
I'd normally get my DD's (will be 10 & 8) stocking fillers from flying tiger but sadly doesn't look like I'll be able to get to one this year Sad

SushiGo · 23/08/2019 07:20

Hey all, it's time! 😁

Question, one DD has requested a hatchimal. These mystery egg ones are currently £39
And these hatchibabies are £33

Are these both similar products? She hasn't asked for a specific colour but definitely wants it to 'hatch'

NoWordForFluffy · 23/08/2019 07:29

@Reastie, would the Tinc one suffice? I know they're a bit cheaper?

Thegirlhasnoname · 23/08/2019 07:29

Clinton’s have some good bits in their sale, especially if you’re after smelly candles. Some Christmas themed items too

MsMiaWallace · 23/08/2019 07:59

Did anyone buy the Furreal Tyler the tiger?
They're £49.99 at John Lewis.
Was considering for DS who'll be 5 this Xmas.
Are they any good? I think they were toy best seller last year or before.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 23/08/2019 08:02

I've decided I'm not buying any of the top toys this year, have bought some Harry potter lego as I'm sure that will be difficult to get closer to Christmas. very had some on good offers if anyone else is looking. and will get the new LOL dolls when they are released as they were hard to find last year.

miley at 2 my DD's liked toy kitchen, till and tea set, doctors kit, paw patrol dogs and big patroller, Peppa pig/in the night garden and Disney figures. happyland houses. my busy books are great - 10/12 figures in a book with playmat normally around £5 - tkmaxx and supermarkets usually have a good selection. water play in the garden (Tesco had a sand/water table for £10 yesterday) micro scooters were popular with friends. cars and a garage, wooden brio type trainset. favourite though was the circus tent from Ikea, still up now and definitely has the wow factor when Santa set it up with the stocking inside and snowy footprints leading in :) slide for the garden or one of the little tikes cube frames if you have space?

Reastie · 23/08/2019 08:09

Nowordforfluffy sadly no. Dd is completely non pushy for stuff generally and very happy to go without stuff but I know she’d love it as it’s her fave store alongside Claire’s. Wonder if Claire’s will do an advent calendar of tat.

Ahhh. I'm a soft touch and would get it then! 😂

hlr1987 · 23/08/2019 08:31

Thank you for the puppet link, and the coding toys!
That's officially my present shopping started :)

Jammiebammie · 23/08/2019 08:36

reastie something is ringing a bell that last years advent from smiggle was included in promotion, or went on sale, I can’t seem to find anything regarding that though.
There’s 20% off if you sign up to their website and I’ve tried but sadly it doesn’t work on the advent calendar, they’re not daft! (I’d be a sneaky bugger and buy something online with the 20% discount and return to store for credit and buy the advent with that... (bet I’ll be hated for that comment now!))

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 23/08/2019 08:43

@Kez0777 i wouldn't have been happy if I'd paid £25 for the Hawkins bazaar stocking, but for £12.50 I think they're good value

the main thing is a robotic Dory that swims, an echo mike, googly eyes headband, lots of smaller bits like temporary tatoos, a pretty russian doll lip balm, rubbers, some crystals, trinket box, craft set

i don't know how much you put in your DD's stockings, but if I had DD's one each would have been enough, no need to buy any other bits.

as some of it's a bit too girly even for my metrosexual DS's, I'll have to get a couple of other bits for them

FastAway · 23/08/2019 08:47

I am on the lookout for switch deals..... does anyone remember any good ones from last year that may recur? Also is two controllers a must?

sideorderofchips · 23/08/2019 08:59

Last years smuggle was cheap on amazon

sideorderofchips · 23/08/2019 09:01

Only the 12 day

Youvegotafriendinme · 23/08/2019 09:33

@MsMiaWallace we have the Tyler tiger. DS got it 2 years ago and he still plays with it now. It still has the original batteries in it and it’s played with nearly every day. I think £49.99 is a very good price as I paid nearly £90 for it 2 years ago!
I love the fur real toys as they are so well made and really last. My DS likes to sit on the other and ‘ride it’ Grin

PepsiLola · 23/08/2019 09:49

I'm so grateful for these threads every year @Reastie .

It's almost September and that is my countdown to Xmas, I only have four paydays until Xmas so in order to spread it out I need to start ASAP.

I have a soon to be 6 year old and a 3 year old, hoping to find lots of board games and family things to do on Xmas day as welll as gifts!

daphine2004 · 23/08/2019 10:03

I had a look on the Hawkins Bazaar site as I’d never heard of them before. Noticed they had a nursery section with 80% off. DS2 due on Monday and I was waiting for the mothercare sale to buy a mattress for his cot - next spring when he goes into his own room. However I noticed they had a Babies R Us cot mattress for £15.90. Link here

www.hawkin.com/babies-r-us-trio-pocket-spring-cot-mattress

(No idea why it’s not a clicky link?)

It’s the equivalent of the one I had last time and what I was going to buy again, currently selling in mothercare for £135!

Trust pilot doesn’t give them good ratings for returns if things go wrong, but for less than £19 for mattress and delivery I was willing to take the risk. Paid via PayPal.

I’ll feedback once here to let you know if there were any issues.

20% off everything at Alphabetbags.com including all sale items and seconds - the discount is automatically applied. These have some really cute make up bags and similar that would be great as stocking fillers or for teens.

MrsCrimbo74 · 23/08/2019 11:21

Ok, I’ve finally found a good deal for everyone on the the ever reliable Poundshop.com
Lots of Pecksniffs products for 1 or 2 pound. Retail on pecksniffs site for about £12
In fact, under the beauty category, there are a lot of nice goods. Great for making up hampers for young teenagers. I’ve got mine some reusable make up wipes and face masks.
