New month coincides with the need for a new thread!

The last one kept us going for over 2 months, so let's see how we do this time!

Morning!

And another lovely day is dawning, it seems.

DD has a trip to the beach with school today so I'm glad the weather is nice for it. ☀️☀️ There's a cool breeze though, so it may be a bit chilly actually on the beach!

It's almost Rudolph Day. Does anyone have any Christmassy plans in store? 🎅🏻 🎄 Xmas Grin

Afternoon ladies. Prepping the tacos for dinner today but am so tired I can barely bring myself to do it. I’ll be taking the dog for a walk when it gets cooler tonight.

Fluffy I hope your DD enjoyed her trip to the beach 🏖

Mrsmadevans · 21/05/2019 15:46

Afternoon everyone Smile
Been cooking & cleaning in my own home today Smile, cleaned the meat dishes kept in the oven . They were filthy Hmm. DH does the cooking but he never cleans the meat dishes . I have a mega wash up of them when l can muster up the strength Grin. Did a roast cauli for DD , cauli & broccoli cheese and a beef casserole for Mum and DH . I am having a bowl of coconut porridge , don't ask Grin. I found these new coconut porridge sachets in Asda , l never shop in Asda but there they were and l fancied them Grin. Dried 2 loads of washing on the line too so a good day was had by all Grin, oh yes l sorted the tinned food cupboard too , Hmm it was a bit revealing , put it this way l don't need to stockpile for Brexit Grin
The beach trip sounds lovely for your DD Fluffy , l think she will have really enjoyed it and will be exhausted when she comes home Smile
No Rudolph plans but l am up for a bit of Christmas activity even if it is only booking a couple of theatre tickets for it . Has given me an idea that must go and have a look Smile
Have a good day everyone it is lovely here , have you been having lovely skies in the night ours have been beautiful , the stuff you cannot buy Smile

lostlobster · 21/05/2019 16:36

mrs Lord you’re a super woman, you’ve got more done today than I have in a week. Weather is lovely here but wouldn’t know about the sky’s at night, I’m in bed by 8

Mrsmadevans · 21/05/2019 17:14

Thank you Lobby , l hope you don't mind me calling you Lobby Grin it reminds me of Dobby , l loved Dobby Smile
I am not really that good y'know , l just had to do a bit because DH was doing the garden and l felt guilty Grin

lostlobster · 21/05/2019 17:46

Mrs you can call me whatever you want☺️. You’re a better woman than me, when DH does the garden I put my feet up and enjoy having some time to myself. I’m getting as much me time in before Joshua comes along (I hope you don’t mind me calling him by his name, I’m just trying to make it seem a bit more real).

Mrsmadevans · 21/05/2019 18:47

Lobby put your feet up and get some rest when you can, it's hard work growing a little Joshua Smile

Isthisnecessary · 21/05/2019 19:41

Can I join?

I love Christmas and start planning after the summer solstice. (Around 21st June).
Then I start tracking the days getting shorter, and with each passing day, each getting shorter and shorter, I get that little bit more excited.

Currently embroidering some napkins with snowflakes. On hold at the moment due to other more pressing matters but can't wait to finish them.

I'm also ready to finish a wool knitted blanket I started about 4 years Ago. Need to put a trim around the edge.

TheWoollybacksWife · 21/05/2019 20:30

Did DD see the sea Fluffy?

MrsMad you are a better woman than me. I am kidding myself that I can't do any laundry despite the perfect drying weather as we are having a new patio laid and I don't want dust on my clean washing. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Lobby Joshua is a fine name. I hope the weather doesn't get too warm for your last few weeks.

Isthis my Pinterest feed is full of amazing embroidery effects. I keep watching and pinning but I haven't actually done anything yet.

My first Christmas present arrived today. I've bought a Winnie the Pooh vanity case for DD1 from the Clinton's sales.

I've got half a king and all of Joseph to do on my nativity plus the head of the second sheep and both arms on another king (but I need to buy another ball of wool first). I am trying to be very disciplined and finish each figure before starting the next one but I got bored knitting the fiddly bits of the sheep. I'm hoping to be finished by Friday evening as my friend is coming for drinks so I want to have it ready to give to her.

Stoopid 3G signal. It either posts twice or not at all 🤷🏻‍♀️

NoWordForFluffy · 21/05/2019 20:37

I didn't ask, Woolly. I doubt it though! I've been here 11 years and only seen it a handful of times! 😂

I wouldn't put washing out if a patio was being done either. Why would you want to wash it twice?!

Mrs, you had a very productive day, well done! We're a busy old lot on here, aren't we?! (Though Biddy puts us all to shame!)

Hi, necessary. Can we see photos of your craft? I do a bit of cross stitch, but nothing as crafty as knitting!

Lobster, I always wanted to call my son Samuel Joshua. It didn't happen though, as I chose that about 20 years before having kids (and before meeting DH)!

I'm thinking about more Christmassy stuff too, Mrs. No idea what though.

OP posts:
lostlobster · 21/05/2019 20:54

Mrs Thank you, you’re very right, I’ve been telling the other half that for the past 6 monthsGrin

necessary Hi! I’d love to see pics of your crafts it might give me a bit of inspiration to get crafty this year

Wooly Thank you! I hope it doesn’t get too hot either, fingers crossed we don’t have another heatwave.

Fluffy We were also considering Samuel, I love it but not as keen on Sam, so we went with Joshua. We’ll try and drum it into the family that he’s Joshua and not Josh but we’ll see how that goes, he will be Joshua Jude so has the option of being JJ too, which I love because a boy at my middle school was called JJ and he was extremely cool 😎

Isthisnecessary · 21/05/2019 21:05

Of course, it will have to wait until I've filled in this paperwork. So it won't be until sometime next week.

The blanket is my first attempt at knitting and I took that up to keep my hands busy while I stopped smoking.
The embroidery thing I started last year on a whim.

Morning!

Surprise rain overnight here, but the forecast has it clearing up soon. It means I don't have to water the allotment today though, as planned. Smile

I might do some more cross stitch tonight as I need to finish my bird one that was meant to be a Mother's Day gift but I didn't get it finished in time. Maybe next year! 😂 Then I need to do the two Snowdog ones for the kids' Christmas presents before I do something else. I've a fair few lined up!

Necessary, I'm looking forward to seeing your crafts. I enjoy seeing what other people are doing.

I like JJ, Lobster. It is cool! 😎

Morning guys. It’s sunny☀️ here but very stuffy. I had a rubbish start to the day, I overslept and then when I was rushing around I pulled my neck. I managed to get to work on time but can barely keep my eyes open. I’m going for a meal with friends tonight and I don’t think I’ll make it I’m so tired💤

lostlobster · 22/05/2019 10:07

Fluffy I absolutely adore cross stitching, I want to put some things in Joshua’s room that are cross stitched.

Necessary Can’t wait to see your crafts😀

CrazyBaubles · 22/05/2019 10:31

Hi all! Welcome to everyone new Xmas Smile

I really need to stay on the thread more as I seem to have a lot to catch up on!

Definite yes from me for pics of peoples crafts. I find them so inspiring.
I've been attempting to knit over the last 2 weeks (self taught) and it isn't going well. I'm what I would call 'crack-handed' so it's not very neat. All I've managed is several rows of 15 stitches 🙄
I have crocheted random holly leaves and snowflakes which will he added to a wreath for a friend though.
Haven't even opened my cross stitch yet.

Sorry I haven't been around. Still looking after Ddad after his accident although he's very much on the mend. Have also been supporting 1 friend through the death of her beloved MIL and another friend through a surprise separation from her husband.
Looking forward to my Rudolph day (which will be spent listening to Christmas music on headphones and crocheting 🤞)

Quick question for gardeners here - is there a weed killer I can use which would not effect wildlife? Our top tier garden is a bit wild and we want to hack it down (think bushes, brambles and weeds) then spray it to get it under control but we have slow worms which are protected. I have no idea where to start and google isn't helping me very much!

Isthisnecessary · 22/05/2019 11:01

Rudolph day?

NerosFiddle · 22/05/2019 11:07

Morning all.

Sorry I haven't been about for a while. We have been given some bad news about mil. She doesn't have long left and dh and his siblings are trying to spend as much time as they can with her.

I hope PSB is ok. I haven't seen her about in a while.

Hope everyone is ok.

BiddyPop · 22/05/2019 12:06

Morning all, sorry I've been missing, my back flared up again and I was trying to still keep all the balls juggling. Somewhat better now, but I need to make sure I take it easy for a while yet.

Nero, I'm sorry to hear that about DMIL, I hope she is comfortable and that her DCs are getting the time they want with her. And you too, I know it can sometimes be hard for the ILs to get a chance for their own time.

Crazy, sorry to hear your DDad is unwell too, I hope he's ok soon and that you are getting a chance to unwind from all your caring duties as well.

Hi Lobster and Necessary, lovely to see more new people on the thread who have the Christmas bug!!

Fluffy, glad to see the allotment is progressing.

And all the crafts progressing in general. (I managed to get the sewing machine out last night - but to sew a pocket back together for DD rather than any fun stuff!!).

Mrs, glad to see you are back again, and that things are getting back to a more normal train of life for you - sometimes washing pots and pans can be very therapeutic!

Sorry if I missed anyone, I haven't seen PSB, 70s or Cish, I must go back through the chat to see how you all are.

Rudolph Day plans - Rudolph Day is the 25th of every month, when you can spend a little time thinking, planning or otherwise enjoying a little Christmas spirit - updating lists, working on crafts, booking things or adding to savings, or just enjoying a nice coffee from a Christmas mug and listening to some Christmas music or watching a Christmas movie (if your DH hasn't "helpfully" deleted them from the skybox [grr]!!).

THis week, I plan to finally book the flights for our Christmas Canadian adventure. We've just been too busy the past few weeks to sit down together and do it. And finalise other paperwork too, looking for DCA (equivalent of DLA I think) for DD - or I can't get my extended parental leave, daft!

lostlobster · 22/05/2019 16:58

Hi everyone👋🏻
I took the puppy to the vets today to have his injections. He did so well and he has been sleeping all afternoon. DF, SM and DSisters have been over for dinner, we had spaghetti. I’ve set up the next to me crib for Joshua and have been sleeping with his blanket so it’ll smell like us for him. Everything is getting very real now😅.

Crazy I hope your DDad is on the mend, and I hope you’re looking after yourself in the midst of looking after everyone else.

Nero I’m so sorry to hear about your DMILFlowers

Biddy I hope your back is improving. A Christmas Canadian adventure sounds ace!

Do any of you have any idea what the little icon is under peoples posts. I’ll try to attach a picture, I’ve accidentally clicked on it twice so I hope it isn’t importantBlush

Afternoon everyone Smile
Went to the Dr's and guess what he told me? Grin
Sorry l couldn't resist that Grin.... he gave me some Amitriptyline & Diclofenic for my sciatica. I just couldn't stand the pain anymore .
He has only given me 10 mgs so it is a tiny dose. They gave me Gabapentin last time , l took 2 and gave up they were awful . I would rather suffer with the pain than be drugged up to the eyeballs on them Hmm l have since found out they have gone on the controlled drug use register and they are addictive so l am very relieved l didn't take them. He offered me Co-CODAMOL but they are addictive too and l really don't want to go there tbh Hmm the side effects are so horrible, as Fluffy and l know to our cost Smile
So what has everyone been doing m'dears?
Isit welcome and can't wait to see your craft wares Grin
Woolly hello m'dear , lovely news re having a new patio , l wouldn't put washing out either , stick it in the Mr Tumble Grin.
I can't wait to see your finished nativity l loved it when you showed us it before l vant to see Josephs cloak really badly for some reason Xmas Grin
I think it was because the sheep was big and fat and poor Josephs cloak was thin and puny Grin

Mrsmadevans · 22/05/2019 18:19

You haven't got rid of me yet Grin
Have to do smaller msgs and post them before l lose them Hmm
Fluffy , how fortunate to have a bit of rain it saves you a job m'dear, l totes agree we are a busy lot here Grin
Lobby it sounds like you had a lovely time with your family Smile. l so approve of sleeping with JJ's blanky sob , so sweet , you are going to be a lovely Mummy Smile l don't know what the icon is either lol .
Glad your Pup was fine in the vets too Smile
Crazy well done on teaching yourself how to knit m'dear! Smile and for looking after your Dad , hope he is soon up and about and fully ment. I am not au fait with a safe weedkiller myself will ask DH he is good at things like that Smile
Dh just told me to tell you 'to use newspapers , at least 4 pages thick , weigh them down with stones or wood blocks and it stops the sunlight from getting to the weeds and they die naturally.' He is a fountain of trivia bless him Grin
Nero Flowers my dear l am so sorry to hear about your dear MIL. Have pm'd PSB and no answer , last activity was on twitter May 1st. I do hope everything is ok with her DS1 bless her.
Biddy , lovely to see you m'dear, sorry your back has been playing you up Flowers, your Canadian Christmas sounds amazing Smile
Take it easy when you can , hope your back is much better very soon Smile
Better shift, l have got to pop up to Mum's with her shopio Smile
No more nights for me though yay! She seems to be coping very well with them thankfully Smile
