Here we go, brand spanking new thread.

If you could finish the old one off first, that would be great!

Afternoon!

A busy day doing not much today! I've not had any painkillers and have been fine, so that's good. The staples seem less problematic too, and they're being taken out tomorrow, so that's good.

Any other issues are also sorted! 😂

I hope you get all your unfinished bits done, Biddy.

Miserable day here. Totally what wasn't forecast yesterday. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Thankfully we got washing almost-dry overnight, so that's something. Our towels are looking rather mournful on the line, however!

Welcome back Biddy Can we get a hint as to which country you'll be in for Christmas?
This is an 'away' year for DH and I and we are considering 2 very different places - Switzerland or Scotland Xmas Grin but hopefully both will have snow ⛄️

Woohoo for your stitches coming out tomorrow and the lack of painkillers Fluffy

I had a really fitful nights sleep because I was nervous I think. I had to do a presentation to the head honchos in work today and I hate them, I blush and speak really quickly, and today, thanks to the rubbish sleep, I was also exhausted 😴 I didn't miss anything or stutter though so that was good!

DH went to Cardiff Bay this evening to greet the Welsh rugby team / celebrate the grand slam so it's been very peaceful. I have done some housework and am now watching Making a Murderer while having dog cwtches Smile

Mrsmadevans · 18/03/2019 20:15

Evening all Smile
I have had a day of it l can tell you !
Was up the parents by 8am , got them both showered and dressed and then took Dad for his blood transfusions, the blood wasn't ready as per and we eventually got back to their house at 5pm . I stayed with him the whole time because he is so frail he can't do anything for himself Sad. I only hope he feels a bit better from having the blood . His Consultant has said he will need blood transfusions every month now , it is the natural progression of the disease . His bloods are right up the creek and she did mention he may need low dose chemo to try to dampen down the cells but it is a tricky thing to make sure it all balances out with his platelets . I said to her, as long as he isn't in pain then it is fine we will do what she advises. She is such an amazing person we are so lucky to have her helping us Smile. She goes above and beyond for all her patients Smile. Have put a pic of him on , having his Ready Brek l took in for him to have there it was too early for breakfast for him Smile
Mum went to her appt with the Dr's, my DDS took her while l stayed with Dad . So Mum is now Diabetic Type 2 and is refusing to take Metformin once a day , l am trying to get her to take it but l may as well talk to a brick wall tbh Hmm. She is 87 FGS she hasn't got much longer left, let her have a bit of cake l say Hmm. She says she is going to lose weight , yeah right Hmm.
Anyway what have you all been getting up to here? Smile
Crazy hope you are feeling less tired this evening sometimes it comes over us in waves m'dear Flowers
Biddy your Christmas plans sound lovely , hope you get around to finishing your UFO'S Grin
Fluffy that is wonderful you haven't had any pain relief, the stitches are getting better and no damage to your shoulder from your trip in the garden. Brilliant ! Grin
Been a lovely day here but not seen much of it from the Hospital but never mind, l am going to Emily's funeral tomorrow so it will be another full on day but these things have to be done . Bless her heart she never caused offence to anyone , she deserves a good send off tomorrow Smile
Better shift and do the dishwasher , DH is getting on my nerves sneezing and coughing , he is fine it is just his usual habits but l am tired and getting irritated by him , hey ho nothing a good nights sleep won't change Smile
Have a great night sleep everyone Smile

Mrsmadevans · 18/03/2019 20:21

Crazy my DH is well jealous of your DH going to Cardiff Grin
Well done on getting through the presentation it must have been nerve racking Flowers
Both your Christmas choices sound lovely , enjoy the planning m'dear !

CrazyBaubles · 18/03/2019 21:44

Thanks MrsMad

DH is home now. He said the atmosphere was lovely at the Bay.

I am supposed to be on Metformin (for PCOS rather than diabetes) but it's a horrible drug to take. If your dm does take it, make sure she has the slow release option and even then, be warned it will upset her stomach for a week or so while she gets used to it Blush This is the reason I've been wimping out from getting back on it but I need to as my weight has stopped going down!

Mrsmadevans · 18/03/2019 21:57

Ah l bet he had a great time too Crazy.
l knew Metformin gave you an upset tum but honestly the amount of Cocodamol she takes it will just counteract it Grin TMI l think Grin
Thank you for the heads up re the slow release tablets l will make sure she gets them Smile

PhilomenaButterfly · 18/03/2019 22:17

Took DD to the doctor's, she's got a bacterial infection in her toe, picked DS2 up, had smoky chipotle chicken enchiladas for supper, DD took part in a Reader's Cup, my mum and DS1 went to watch, they got back at 6.30, DS2 was in bed by 6, DD was in bed by 9.15. 😋🍗😴

Mrsmadevans · 18/03/2019 23:12

Well done to your DS for participating in the Reader's Cup PSB
and hope your DD is much better very soon Flowers

TheWoollybacksWife · 19/03/2019 11:00

281 Morning all.

Nice to see you back Biddy. Your Christmas plans always sound lovely.

Crazy very jealous of your prospects of snow. I have dropped huuuuuge hints to DH about renting a cottage in the Yorkshire Dales this Christmas but he doesn't really do hints.

MrsMad your dad looks sweet in his hat. It's a good job you brought his breakfast. I like the thought of your mum's tablets cancelling each other's side effects out. I hope Emily's funeral is a fitting tribute to her.

Fluffy I hope the 'unstapling' is uneventful and good to hear your pain is going.

PSB ouch! Your poor DD.

Everything is fine here. DD2 comes home tonight for an interview tomorrow so it will be lovely to see her.

PhilomenaButterfly · 19/03/2019 11:03

My bloody aunt! Demanding that I tell school that DD won't be going to her maths booster, otherwise she won't take her to hers this weekend, then my battery packed up, then I got "Did you get my texts? I need a reply." 😠😠😠😠😠

NoWordForFluffy · 19/03/2019 11:19

Morning!

I'm de-stapled now, yay. But my shoulder hurts as the seats in the waiting room rocked as DH sat down sending the arm on my side up to meet my elbow, jarring the shoulder. A mini version of how I bloody injured myself. They'll find themselves on the wrong end of a legal claim if it's damaged the tendon again!

Mrs, I hope the funeral goes well today.

Woolly, you'll just have to explicitly tell your DH!

PSB, what's the problem with the booster? Though you've said your DD doesn't really need them, so it won't hurt to miss it, I imagine.

OP posts:
PhilomenaButterfly · 19/03/2019 11:35

They heavily guilt trip the children who miss them. Afternoon boosters finish at 4.30, which means they'd hit the rush hour going to MK.

It's just brought back memories of when DD was 5, she demanded I ask the school if she could leave early to drive to the Forest of Dean. She rang the school before I had a chance to ask her not to, I ran round to the school crying, the lovely family liaison officer took one look at me and said "[aunt's name]." I made it very clear that it was nothing to do with me. She's "that parent" without actually being a parent.

CishAndFips · 19/03/2019 12:09

woolly i hope you have a lovely evening with your DD and the interview goes well tomorrow.
psb that sounds stressful. I hope your ok.
fluffy glad to hear your destapled now sorry your still in pain i hope it eases soon.

Thank you for all your kind words regarding DS. He had a relatively good morning which i hope will continue through school.

DD had pre school boosters this morning. We were rather early so went to the cafe for breakfast which she loved. She asked me why she needed a needle and I told her it was to keep her body strong. Her reply was wow like a super hero? Shes been whizzing round the living room pretending to be a super hero since we got back and has just gone down for a nap.

Mrsmadevans · 19/03/2019 12:44

Afternoon everyone Smile
Have been idle this morning trying to recuperate from the mammoth session in Hospital with Dad yesterday . Just got up and had a bath and not much else really Smile
Fluffy marvellous news re the staples it will be much more comfortable for you now l am sure. Hope the seating hasn't made any lasting damage to your healing tendon too Flowers. Thank you for the good wishes re Emily's funeral too , we will give her a lovely send off full of love and memories, bless her heart Smile
PSB can't you just tell her you told them? ie fib to her Grin, it sounds ridiculous of her and the school tbh she sounds like my sister tbh she would take it on herself to do that Hmm
Woolly thank you for the good wishes for Emily's funeral , l am sure the funeral will be a celebration of a good life Smile. Dad is exhausted bless him , my sister is 'looking after' them today Hmm
Enjoy your time with your DD and good luck on her interview Smile
Cish great news your Ds if doing well and your DD is happy with her booster Supergirl! Smile

PhilomenaButterfly · 19/03/2019 16:58

Mrs unfortunately, then she'd have had to miss the booster.

It was easily resolved, I spoke to the extremely easy going maths lead who takes the boosters and he said that's fine. She really only needs them for the timed tests anyway.

DS2's at Adventure. 😆

PhilomenaButterfly · 19/03/2019 21:55

Picked DS2 up from Adventure, had chicken jalfrezi for supper, DS2 was in bed by 8.40, DD was in bed by 9. 😋🍛😴

Mrsmadevans · 20/03/2019 09:08

280
Morning everyone Smile
Gas boiler has developed a leak Hmm they are coming this afternoon, BG , it's not too bad the heating is working and the water still works so l expect it is a loose pipe or a seal.

Mrsmadevans · 20/03/2019 09:34

Had to go quickly to answer the door to the postman back now Smile
So today is Spring Equinox , YAY Spring has sprung Grin
Emily's funeral service was lovely yesterday , the family are so kind , They came all the way from Kirton in Suffolk to Hereford. It was a fitting end to a good life lived bless her Smile
Anyway how is everyone doing , posts here are getting a bit sparse , l am sure it is the usual being so far away from Christmas it will ramp up again after Sept l expect . Smile
Fluffy hope your shoulder is doing really well and you are now able to enjoy having a little bit of time off work while you are healing .
Better shift have to be back home before the Gas man commeth lol
Have a great day everyone Smile

NoWordForFluffy · 20/03/2019 09:56

Morning!

I have smallest child's cold germs so feel rough today. I'm glad I'm already off work really as I've got a temp and feel rotten!

The shoulder is a bit achey, but if the external bruising is anything to go by, I imagine I've got similar internally. I've taken cold tablets today, so the paracetamol will help with that too.

Mrs, I hope your boiler gets sorted and I'm glad the funeral was lovely.

PSB, I hope our school doesn't do as many boosters as yours has. Though I won't be sending ours to (m)any even if they do as I am totally opposed to SATS. Your DD has been having boosters for months. It's too much, IMO. It'll do her good not to go, quite frankly.

OP posts:
TheWoollybacksWife · 20/03/2019 10:27

Morning all.

DS's primary school offered maths boosters last year as an optional after school activity. They also did SATS breakfast club the week of the tests to ensure everyone had some breakfast. Pretty low key really. I'm not a big fan of testing primary school children either but then I was never even given homework at primary school apart from learning times tables and spellings for a test each week. None of this 'Write a Spring/Autumn/Christmas poem' stuff that's repeated every school year. Maybe I'm just old and grumpy.

PhilomenaButterfly · 20/03/2019 13:31

Fluffy she looks forward to the maths ones, as it's her favourite subject. I'm worried that some secondary schools set according to SAT results, and then keep them in that set for the rest of school. DD's slow thinking speed belies her intelligence.

PhilomenaButterfly · 20/03/2019 13:33

DS2's off school with diarrhoea today. 💩

NoWordForFluffy · 20/03/2019 14:22

No amount of boosters will change a person's natural thinking speed. Some people just don't process info speedily.

We had tests in first year seniors for setting. Though that probably has changed now. But you can move around sets; it's not do or die.

OP posts:
PhilomenaButterfly · 20/03/2019 14:48

That's comforting Fluffy, thanks. ☺

PhilomenaButterfly · 20/03/2019 17:41

DD had animation today, she came home at 4.15, had duck in plum sauce for supper, DS2 will go to bed at 5.45, DD will go at 8.15.
