How many roast potatoes each?

OK I've decided on Pigs in Blankets now, but how many roast potatoes each? 4 medium ones? We have 3 adults with good appetites, 1 with a small appetite and 2 toddlers. 20 in total?

5 or 6 each I would plan for.

Lovemusic33 · 24/12/2018 11:33

I always cook as many as I can fit in the tray, I like to eat them cold later in the day if there’s leftovers. I would say 5 each is enough plus a couple spare.

IloveBaileysCheesecake · 24/12/2018 11:34

It depends if you're doing mash or other types of potatoes. We do mash and croquettes as well as roast. I estimate for 3 each as most people have a bit of everything.

SimplyPut · 24/12/2018 11:34

I always cook six per person #neverknowinglyundercareredest2000

mumof2sarah · 24/12/2018 11:35

I have MANY pigs and MANY MANY roasties.... Christmas dinner is my favourite ever meal and I sightly very much so over indulge lol x

yesmelord · 24/12/2018 11:35

It all depends on the size really doesn't it?

I always make enough so there are plenty of left overs for people to grab if they want more.

LaurieFairyCake · 24/12/2018 11:36

One year my BIL ate 14

He's not even overweight

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 24/12/2018 11:38

I fill the biggest roasting tin. Best part of the meal.

Orangesox · 24/12/2018 11:41

We do a whole large tray of Roast Potatoes for three people as they will get eaten cold later that day, or mashed up to make bubble and squeak. It’s not worth the faff of ruminating over these things imo.

CookieSwirlC · 24/12/2018 11:43

I eat as many as I physically can, so cook lots!

Celebelly · 24/12/2018 11:44

Loads. Do what you think is plenty and then add at least a third more.

TokenGinger · 24/12/2018 11:44

We just make as many as will fit in the tray dmd have them for leftovers the next day if there's any left. We have some who just gave roasties then others who have a pile of mash and roasties so naturally have less.

Oysterbabe · 24/12/2018 11:49

OK I'll amend my plans to a fucktonne. Grin
We aren't having any other kind of potato but we are having swede and carrot mash.

YouFellAsleep · 24/12/2018 11:53

I'd be more worried about the lack of mash! How can you have any kind of roast dinner, let alone Christmas dinner, without mash, it mops up all the left over gravy and peas Smile

noenergy · 24/12/2018 11:59

Roasties are my favourite part, so at least 6-7 each but I usually do a full large tray for 4 of us and don't count

Sarahandduck18 · 24/12/2018 12:00

I wouldn’t dictate how much others eat. Do a trayfull, put them in a serving dish on the table and let people eat!

Stuckforthefourthtime · 24/12/2018 12:01

Loads! My mum always allowed 3 each and I hated feeling limited. Roast potatoes are better than turkey anyway..

mumof2sarah · 24/12/2018 12:01

*NO OTHER POTATOES?
*
I just fell off my chair... ha ha!

I have mash, boiled AND roast on my plate... like I said I'm extreme ha ha

Seriously though OP just do what you want with your dinner, it's how you make it and enjoy it at the end of the day. Sounds like it's going to be a lovely feast x

Oysterbabe · 24/12/2018 12:02

I don't think mash potato goes on Christmas Dinner.

OP posts:
mumof2sarah · 24/12/2018 12:05

@Oysterbabe I'm the same with the little new potatoes with skins on, I don't think they're for a Christmas dinner. I love threads like this to see everyone's Christmas dinners and how different they all are x

Celebelly · 24/12/2018 12:07

We never have mash at Christmas! If we had mash then there would be less space in my tummy for roasties. And that's not something I'm willing to do.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 24/12/2018 12:08

I always do five each and a few extra. Nothing worse than rations!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 24/12/2018 12:08

(And mash, you need a touch of mash too for extra gravy absorbency).

uncoolnn · 24/12/2018 12:19

I reckon about 127 each should do it Grin

Jackshouse · 24/12/2018 12:21

More than you can possible imagine needing then do another large potato. It’s the best bit of the meal so you don’t need to do any other potatoes.
