How many roast potatoes each?

OK I've decided on Pigs in Blankets now, but how many roast potatoes each? 4 medium ones? We have 3 adults with good appetites, 1 with a small appetite and 2 toddlers. 20 in total?

4 for kids
5-6 for adults

greenpop21 · 24/12/2018 14:50

Mash? Never on a roast dinner! It's weird when you hear what other people have for christmas dinner. Ours is always, turkey, roast pots, roast parsnips, sprouts, carrots and red cabbage, cranberry sauce, bread sauce, stuffing, pigs in blankets.

As for how many spuds, about 5 each? Some will eat less, some more.

ThatPeskyElf · 24/12/2018 14:52

No need for serving animal flesh then!

April2020mom · 24/12/2018 14:53

As many as I can make. My family love roasted chicken and vegetables at Christmas time.

BestIsWest · 24/12/2018 14:55

No mash or boiled here either. Roasties only. I don’t like them anyway so will trade mine for extra sprouts.

gamerchick · 24/12/2018 15:00

3 types of potatoes here. Goes with the mega tasty animal flesh Wink

Fresta · 24/12/2018 15:07

Of course it depends how big you make the roast potatoes. I like mine chunky so most people eat 3 or 4 each, but I cook more than that just in case- wouldn't want anyone feeling short changed! I don't do mash!

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 24/12/2018 16:59

Look at the tray of roast spuds. Double it. You will need more for bubble and squeak the next day.
Fuck mash and gravy (only acceptable with fried onions), and YES to peas.

MyMagicStars · 24/12/2018 17:02

We have 10 people and a baby this xmas, so have bought 4 huge bags, given I have five men with massive appetites to feed, and DD4 could probably get through a bag alone!

No wonder there is an obesity crisis in this country.

Roasties are the only appropriate potato product on a Christmas dinner [bangs gavel]

True story - we used to spend every Christmas Day with my mum’s family and Boxing Day with my dad’s. It was usually my mum who cooked both days but one year my aunt cooked for us on Boxing Day. There were 7 of us for dinner and no word of a lie - there were 100 potatoes! When my mum looked rather visibly shocked at the number my aunt explained that she’d cooked the same number the previous day when she had cooked for my cousins (there were 7 that day too) and they were all eaten. Apparently 15 each is normal to my cousins!!!!

kateandme · 24/12/2018 17:51

loads.bubble and squeak the next day!

Badcat666 · 24/12/2018 17:56

I cook for 2 of us on Boxing day (proper turkey xmas dins) and I plan on doing as many as I can fit in the oven.

Last time I did a roast I did about 15 medium ones and there was none left at the end of the day. So this time I'm doing a ton! Maybe 30...40??

Lovely cold to nibble on later then bubble and squeak in the morning.... (not that they last that long... god MrBC can pack them away!)

kateandme · 24/12/2018 17:59

we seomtimes branch out for roast sweet potato and red onion too now

Oh FFS it’s Christmas.

Stephisaur · 24/12/2018 18:35

My mum does a big bag for around 10-15 people and shoves them in a bowl in the middle of the table for us to help ourselves.

When I cook, it’s 2-3 whole potatoes per person. I love roasties!

How can this simple question have so many answers? «head explodes»

Roast potatoes are the one thing everyone at the table can agree on. The carnivores can sit with the vegans - it’s practically biblical. World peace could be a tray of roasties away and people are rationing them? I despair!

caringcarer · 24/12/2018 19:06

I cook 4 per adult and 2 per child, then add 6 extra, I always cook mash with loads of butter in or baby boiled potatoes too so either a saucepan of mash or a bag of baby boiled potatoes. If only doing roast I would do 2 more each person and an extra 4. I would always do extra as better to have some left and people will eat up later than not have enough. Just do a tray full.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 24/12/2018 19:52

People have left over roasties?!

HOW?!

4 roasties, 2 pigs in blanket, 2 stuffing balls.

Hellywelly10 · 24/12/2018 20:16

In my family my step dad would have about 10, my sister 0 and everyone else 2 or 3.

Magmatic80 · 24/12/2018 20:20
