How many roast potatoes each?

OK I've decided on Pigs in Blankets now, but how many roast potatoes each? 4 medium ones? We have 3 adults with good appetites, 1 with a small appetite and 2 toddlers. 20 in total?

Hang on? Did someone say peas Xmas Envy (vom face.) Mash is acceptable, peas are NEVER acceptable on a roast.

AllYeFaithful · 24/12/2018 12:24

Roasties = same principle as pugs in blankets. You can’t have too many.

AppleKatie · 24/12/2018 12:25

6 per person plus however many you think you want for bubble and squeak on Boxing Day. Plus another 10 or so ‘for the pot’. 🤣

PsychoCrayon · 24/12/2018 12:28

I’ve got 5kg potatoes and they’ll all be roasted.

DarlingNikita · 24/12/2018 12:28

There's no such thing as too many. They're even better cold the next day.

Punto1 · 24/12/2018 12:33

Christ but ye have some appetites! [shocked]

I'd cook loads to have some for leftovers, but how on earth can you eat 6 potatoes in one sitting??

Plaiceholder · 24/12/2018 12:35

How many have you got?!

Bababoo13 · 24/12/2018 12:37

In the words of grandpa pig - you can never have to many roast potatoes

Nenic · 24/12/2018 12:41

I fill the big tray up as eating them cold later is a must. I put loads on my plate as well. Love them

PhilODox · 24/12/2018 12:43

Five each- small people get small ones, big people get big ones; sometimes people swap with others if someone is too full/still hungry Grin

PhilODox · 24/12/2018 12:44

But mash at Christmas Dinner is an abomination!

mumof2sarah · 24/12/2018 13:03

Just nipped my mums and the prep is well under way, potatoes are sliced and in pans of water, veg the same, 1/2 turkeys is being cooked along with a huge piece of gammon, sister is doing the beef in the morning and the other turkey will go in during the night. It smells phenomenal and I LITERALLY can't wait I'm THAT hungry now between this thread and that ha ha x

Jasonmendoza · 24/12/2018 13:37

I do three roast potatoes each because I cook an equal amount of roast parsnips. Is this wrong?

halcyondays · 24/12/2018 13:40

as many as possible, they're one of the best parts of the dinner. We had our usual debate about mash which dh insists on but I wouldn't care either way.

Whatwaswrongwiththatusername · 24/12/2018 14:00

EACH??!!?? What are you talking about?! Surely ALL the roast potatoes are for the cook? 😁🐷

LemonAndPoppySeed · 24/12/2018 14:07

As many as will fit on a tray, then people help themselves, including leftovers.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 24/12/2018 14:11

3 roast potatoes each is practically abuse Wink

I will be doing two large trays, twice over. At least 8 medium potatoes per person. Token parsnip and sprout each, judging from past take-up Grin

Whatthefoxgoingon · 24/12/2018 14:13

Basically we eat goose, gravy and potatoes, mildly flavoured with the occasional sprout as a palate cleanser Grin

bevelino · 24/12/2018 14:18

@LaurieFairyCake, 14 roasties, oh my goodness. Is he visiting you again this year?

Oysterbabe · 24/12/2018 14:21

I like roast parsnips almost as much as potatoes so will do plenty of those too.

OP posts:
OhTheRoses · 24/12/2018 14:23

I do 3. And 1 to 2 parsnip pieces. With turkey, pigs, stuffing, bread sauce, cranberry, red cabbage, sprouts and green beans. And we can't manage a starter. Where do you all put it?

Notatallobvious · 24/12/2018 14:26

Bloody hell i’ve only done two each (but they are quite big and we have mash as well. Better peel some more!

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 24/12/2018 14:33

2 or 3 as I do loads of mash too
