How many roast potatoes each?

OK I've decided on Pigs in Blankets now, but how many roast potatoes each? 4 medium ones? We have 3 adults with good appetites, 1 with a small appetite and 2 toddlers. 20 in total?

Two or three roasties? some people really know how to live...
Wink

millimat · 24/12/2018 20:46

I've planned on 4 each but now panicking I've not done enough. Have got mash though...

ClinkyMonkey · 24/12/2018 20:51

No mashed or boiled potatoes in this house - just roasties. We eat mashed and boiled potatoes all the sodding time so they just aren't special enough.

Make shed loads - they will never go to wasteSmile

jasmine1971 · 24/12/2018 21:24

4 pigs in blankets each - that's a full size sausage not a cocktail one - and about 6 roasties ... but extras just in case. And two kinds of stuffing. Now you're talking.

SandettieLightVesselAutomatic · 24/12/2018 21:31

2kgs of King Edwards, cut fairly small. There's me, DH and 2 toddlers. Roasties are the best bit of Christmas dinner by a mile and I will stuff my face with them. A PP said something like 'do what you think is a generous amount then add a few more'. Good advice!

In answer to this question last year I said I allow 3 per female, 5 per male and a bunch more. (I don't dish them out, this is just how I count the quantity to cook). I got a lot of grief for doing penis portions and for doing too few. BUT, there were more than enough, we had leftovers so I still think my formula works. We also have roast parsnips + 5 other veg, our plates are overflowing (well, if you choose to, as I say, it is help yourself).

Ethel36 · 24/12/2018 21:41

4 roast potatoes, unless there are parsnips too..then just 2 of each.

avoschmado · 24/12/2018 21:55

Why is Christmas ok for such gluttony?

AppleKatie · 24/12/2018 21:57

Tradition. Hint: being judgemental isn’t ok.

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/12/2018 22:07

We only have one meal on Christmas day and we have no starter. I do as many as I can fit in the tray. Usually end up with about 4 each but the rest get munched later when watching a movie. We have mash, roast parsnips, sprouts, carrots, pickled cabbage, kilted sausages, turkey, haggis, gravy and sauces as well as the roasties. We do left overs as nibbles and dessert at movie/supper time.

Fresta · 24/12/2018 22:20

I don't know how some of you mange to eat so much- I'd love to eat 6 roast potatoes but there's no way I'd manage it- especially since there is a starter and dessert to eat which we don't usually have for a normal roast dinner.

jasmine- do you really have 4 full sized sausages each as well as the rest of Christmas dinner- or are you saying you just have sausages and potatoes?

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/12/2018 22:29

Fresta, on a normal day I have no breakfast, only water until lunch. i usually just have soup and maybe a small roll or a bit of bread about 12 and then we have a main meal around 5ish , I might have a small snack about 8 but not always.

On Christmas day we have a main meal about 3 and then have snacks and dessert about 7.30. I have teenage boys so on a normal day they will have breakfast and a packed lunch as well as dinner and supper. On Christmas day they'll have a bit of brunch before we walk to the pub for a drink and home for dinner. It is a very big meal, but it's our only meal (for me and DH anyway)

MsLexic · 24/12/2018 22:34

Blimey couldn't eat all those with everything else. Potato each i'd say and 2 over.

hiphopapotamuses · 24/12/2018 22:36

27 roast potatoes per person and 54 pigs in blankets per person should just about do it.

Stressmess · 24/12/2018 22:39

At my Mil's this week I was given 1 roast potato, small and 1 pig in blanket. Yes 1! I would give my kids more than that. At theirs its just what is served and there never seems to be anything extra or seconds. At home I would probably eat three good sized roast potatoes and about four pigs in blankets.

Thankfully at my parents tomorrow were they don't scrimp when serving food. There will be food and then more food offered even though you are full.

sophisticatedsarcasm · 24/12/2018 22:53

We plan 4 each, ours fair sized. Then we do extras 😂😂

Babygrey7 · 25/12/2018 08:01

I have 4-6 pp, and that will be too much

Joinourclub · 25/12/2018 08:09

Three???!! Something people really only serve three roast potatoes???!!! I think at least seven. It is far, far worse to not have enough than it is to have too many. And there is no such thing as waste, because any leftovers will get eaten up in Boxing Day bubble and squeak.

frankiegoestobirmingham · 25/12/2018 08:21
  1. And a dollop of mash.
AJPTaylor · 25/12/2018 08:55

Gosh. Back in the day I had my grandparents, pil and my parents plus us. I did 2 trays, at least 2 bags.
3 each? What actual big potatoes cut into 3 Or 4 Or 3 roasties each?
Given that a bag of spuds costs about 3 quid, what is wrong with people?

GodrestyemerrySchadenfreud · 25/12/2018 08:59

Quite right, That Woman!

Those minuscule pigs-in-blankets aren't worth having - in fact, they may be an offence in the sight of the Lord!

UrsulaPandress · 25/12/2018 09:06

I don’t like roasties.

RustyBear · 25/12/2018 09:17

Roasties = same principle as pugs in blankets. You can’t have too many.

Happy to oblige...

How many roast potatoes each?
morningconstitutional2017 · 25/12/2018 10:08

I would like 4 or 5, depending on the size but I could easily eat many more (an entire plateful) as I love them so much. In fact, sod the turkey, just give me a mountain of roast potatoes in a lake of gravy and I'd be ecstatic.
