Thought I’d do a ‘how to’ for a couple of things people often post about not being sure of

To do click links you do this put link in here then a space then the name or phrase you want to go with the link . Don’t put a space between the start of the link and the and then last word and the like I have or it won’t work but I had to to demonstrate.

To follow the thread without using up a post to mark place you can click on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first post.

Second message has a few links and info which I’ll slowly build up, let me k ow if there’s anything you’d like me to add to it Thanks

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 13/12/2018 20:44

You lot are bloody brilliant! Just settling down to look through the feminist ideas (and order some lands end blankets!)

BobDobbs · 13/12/2018 20:47

Antichoosing what about one of those DNA ancestry kits for your dad?

imsorryiasked · 13/12/2018 20:53

@Antichoosingausername what does he do for work? Eg spend a lot of time in the car / abroad / (hand) writing stuff?

Antichoosingausername · 13/12/2018 21:05

Thank you Scarlett and imsorry for taking the time to reply to me. I think he would feel funny about the DNA thing. He won't have an Alexa for example either. It sounds awful but I don't really understand what he does for work.. I know that it is to do with engineering on a very detailed level (electronics etc) and he is the boss not on the ground if you see what I mean. He is abroad for work but lots of different places. Not a lot of time spent in the car. When he flies he just sleeps or works on his laptop. My sister and I are both sat here still googling.. it will be a long evening!

imsorryiasked · 13/12/2018 21:15

Could you get him a nice carry on bag. Or maybe a decent power bank. Is there a VIP lounge membership you could get for whichever airport he flies or of?

TimeForMy10thCuppa · 13/12/2018 21:20

Thank you for the link for magpie. Off too spend money I don't have, on stuff I don't need, for no one in particular, because I have finished shopping for all the people in my life and now I'm getting twitchy. Could always make a start on birthday gifts.

Thanks to the poster a few pages back for the Amazon ashtray. I think she would like that, I think I ordered it, though I should probably double check. Feels rather strange buying a non smoker an ashtray.

Elphaba17 · 13/12/2018 21:22

I think something to do with travel would be your best bet - cabin bag, wash bag, some travel sized toiletries. Or what about a nice pen, or something practical he could use for work.

GreenKangaroo · 13/12/2018 21:24

Antichoosingausername

Sounds like me. I don't want anything and I HATE it when family insist on buying me a gift even when I say no.

I dont want anyone to waste their money on stuff that will be sold for charity as I don't want it or need it.

What is your budget?

£5 in a card to get a drink (funny)
Packing cubes are quite in for travellers

GreenKangaroo · 13/12/2018 21:26

I think something to do with travel would be your best bet - cabin bag, wash bag, some travel sized toiletries. Or what about a nice pen, or something practical he could use for work.

Decent cabin bag is £600- what does he have now?
No need for toiletries- hotels have them.
Washbag- need a clear plastic bag.

GreenKangaroo · 13/12/2018 21:27

Bose noise cancelling headphones are great for travellers - but £300

totallyLosingIt · 13/12/2018 21:34

@Antichoosingausername I recently bought my Grandad a photo of the town he was born in from his year of birth (or decade, but I said it was from around his year). He loved it! Would something like that maybe appeal to your Dad? I bought the print from historic-newspapers, here - www.historic-newspapers.co.uk/local/
They have loads of different cities archived.

gaggiagirl · 13/12/2018 21:37

www.barrym.com/product/Makeup-Goody-Bag?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=goodybad&utm_content=prospecting Barry M make up goody bag £14.99 is choc full of lovely stuff

Antichoosingausername · 13/12/2018 21:38

He already has good travel things that he is happy with but thank you for the suggestions Elphaba17

GreenKangaroo Budget is more like £50. Yes he probably doesn't want anything really..but it feels so wrong not to get him anything and he hasn't ever said not to get him anything so it doesn't feel like an option.. He's not really a 'funny' man, definitely more on the serious side of things!

HereBeFuckery · 13/12/2018 21:43

@Fork2fork you are welcome! Smile

Gardenworm · 13/12/2018 22:11

I need to buy some Eneloop Pro rechargeable batteries (AA & AAA) for Xmas toys. Anyone know how I can get a bargain? 😁

totallyLosingIt · 13/12/2018 22:43

After debating all day, I've at last twitched and bought myself some new slippers from Lands End. The thing putting me off was having to pay for postage (which is an admittedly irrational hate of mine) and also their returns are not free. So if the slippers are uncomfortable I will have to pay postage again to return them. Couldn't resist 50% off though!

MinorRSole · 14/12/2018 01:39

Not sure if it's been posted but fabled.com have 20% off when you buy 2 gifts. You can combine this with 15% off for new customers (welcome15)

Example:

Clinique aromatics duet set
Clinique hi lash bye lash set
Free Clinique set for spending £40+

Total should be £68.50 reduced to £46.58

There are lots of gifts in various price ranges - that was just what I bought

Rosie2000 · 14/12/2018 04:31

Thank you for the Landsend info- got ds a new coat and x5 blankets.

passremarkable · 14/12/2018 04:40

My Dad poses similar problems. Has everything, needs nothing.

We have had success in the past with the GCHQ puzzle book, and he really liked a book of old photos from the city he grew up in. He also likes whisky and toffees.
