Thought I’d do a ‘how to’ for a couple of things people often post about not being sure of

To do click links you do this put link in here then a space then the name or phrase you want to go with the link . Don’t put a space between the start of the link and the and then last word and the like I have or it won’t work but I had to to demonstrate.

To follow the thread without using up a post to mark place you can click on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first post.

Second message has a few links and info which I’ll slowly build up, let me k ow if there’s anything you’d like me to add to it Thanks

You lovely lot have been so helpful that I'm hoping you can help me with my present dilemma and offer some inspiration.

DD (9yo) has asked for a baking set for Xmas. The problem is that she is quite an accomplished baker already (knocks up Nigella cake recipes on her own apart from taking out the oven) and all the baking sets I have seen are too young for her plus as I bake a lot we have most of the basic stuff.

Can anyone suggest anything to put in a baking set please?

Argos have the LOL live pets for £14.99.

duriandurian · 13/12/2018 09:51

trixymalixy - sounds like something to encourage. How about going mad in Lakeland and buying some mini load tins or more interesting shaped silicone tins. Maybe some of their unusual flavourings and nice decorations and gold dust etc..
Mine really like concocting ice cream- we have a maker- but also lollies. Again ice land sell silicon mounds and you can balance fruit in etc..
Or bread? Could you buy flours and different seeds?
If she was older I might think confectionary might be fun but hot sugar scares me! I guess chocolate tempering and creating might be fun.
TL:DR- go to Lakeland and spend £££!

I’ve just done a hamper for my niece (12), I put in 2 baking books (you could do more advanced ones). Cookie cutters, kitchen timer, sugar paste, sprinkles etc. I’ve attached a pic, still waiting for personalised rolling pin to arrive from crafty giraffe! Might give you some ideas

Or mason cash bowls and nice marble rolling pin and board for pastry making? My Ma still has hers from her teens- she realised early on that this kind of thing would be wasted on me!

Elphaba17 · 13/12/2018 09:53

trixymalixy how about a really nice apron and oven glove. Cath kidston do some lovely homeware bits for example like these measuring spoons which would look great in a hamper.

Arghhh it did post! Clearly I need some coffee lol

duriandurian · 13/12/2018 09:59

Ooh a balloon whisk maybe? Do you have one of those? The ones with a handle and two whisks- good for little arms and then she can make double cream go thick for e.g. a sponge cake and it always seems a bit magic!

Notlongnow1 · 13/12/2018 10:06

NailsInc replies to my email saying they had oversold and couldn't do my order. Apparently I can have 8x10ml secret Santa surprise or a refund, but they can't send a pic as would ruin the surprise?! Just me or is that a tad unreasonable? How can I decide if I want it if I have no idea what it is? Tbh it sounds to me like they are hoping to get rid of 8 old varnishes that have been say in the stock room for a decade! Do I just take the refund?!

margaritasbythesea · 13/12/2018 10:10

BeauticianNotMagician81 thank you!

RedBlu · 13/12/2018 10:21

Went for the Elemis handwash - not even sure why other than it was a bargain!!

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 13/12/2018 10:22

Carrie76 · 13/12/2018 10:23

I need to stop reading this thread I’m not thinking of adding to dn baking hamper and it’s already way over budget!!!!

trixymalixy · 13/12/2018 10:26

That looks fab Carrie! I think a trip to lakeland is in order!!!

trixymalixy · 13/12/2018 10:30

You are all marvellous! Thank you for all your suggestions!

g1c2d3 · 13/12/2018 10:33

Anyone having problems with their Elemis order? I placed two yesterday using the discount code and received email today of cancellation of my order - it doesn’t say exactly which one of the two though - with no explanation why, which needless to say is very frustrating as both things I ordered are Christmas presents. I replied to their email but not hoping for much.

dramalamma · 13/12/2018 10:33

Nigel Slaters the Christmas chronicles is on a lightening sale on amazon for £10.85 from £26 in case anyone is looking for a difficult foodie relative (unfortunately I got it for my difficult foodie relative last year so can't do it again! 😁) ends in 2.25 hours

IceLemonGin · 13/12/2018 10:36

Has anyone seen offers on BIG bars of chocolate anywhere?

ShesABelter · 13/12/2018 10:36

@Notlongnow1 yeah I'd cancel

@thaegumathteth my Superdrug stuff arrived too. Are you using the calendar stuff for stockings?

hmslfc · 13/12/2018 10:39

notlongnow1 I have just called Nails Inc and spoken to a bored sounding CSO who basically confirmed they over sold and she was working her way through contacting people! I'm a bit cross that they actually took the money from my account a week ago but hey ho! I've taken the offer of the 8 10ml surprises but she agreed I could send back for a full refund if not suitable when they arrive. I always get one present/bargain disaster each year so hopefully this is it and at least it's only a small one Xmas Grin
