Thought I’d do a ‘how to’ for a couple of things people often post about not being sure of

To do click links you do this put link in here then a space then the name or phrase you want to go with the link . Don’t put a space between the start of the link and the and then last word and the like I have or it won’t work but I had to to demonstrate.

To follow the thread without using up a post to mark place you can click on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first post.

Second message has a few links and info which I’ll slowly build up, let me k ow if there’s anything you’d like me to add to it Thanks

Haven't got time to scan back through the thread so sorry if already mentioned, but I've just bagged a few great bargains in the Hollister sale. Got a body spray for £2.79 and an aftershave for £5.79 which will be great stocking fillers. Lots of items have a further 30% off the marked sale price too. Also 2 pairs boxers for £18. i got free shipping too but I think today is the final day for that.

Anyone have any idea when the next M&S Sparks 20% off might be? Smile

Snooky17 · 12/09/2018 22:07

Jammiebammie · 12/09/2018 22:09

I’ve just gone back and clicked my links and some are skimming ones - I promise I haven’t done that, definitely something from Mnhq. Is there a tagged post somewhere that says that they do this?

newnameallround · 12/09/2018 22:16

The Argos 3 for 2 usually includes sylvanian family. Last year we got I think the lighthouse, the cruise boat and one of the big houses all for £85 ish (still a lot I know but saved about £35).
I then did a second order for three family sets so paid about £30 for three saving £15 ish.

newnameallround · 12/09/2018 22:17

@TKRedLemonade sorry forgot to add your name to my post!

Catanddogmake6 · 12/09/2018 22:30

Alanamackree, Amazon sell TopModel. I have seen some of their prices vary - nothing terribly exciting but I have got one for a pound or two less. Might be worth a camel, camel link if there was a particular one you are after.

On the skimming links mnhq came on either last year’s thread or the year before and confirmed it was them as this topic was raised previously. Not a hope of finding the link given how many threads over the last couple of years though.

thaegumathteth · 12/09/2018 22:39

Can we all just accept the skimming links are outwith the control of posters and move on?

Stripy29 · 12/09/2018 22:42

Please can someone help me with a last minute birthday present idea? DS is going to a friend's party this weekend so I'm thinking it probably needs to be Prime...
He's a very 'cool' about-to-be-10 year old and ideally the present would cost £5-10 (but maybe look like £10+... because I can't bear to not get a bargain 😁)

I can't think of anything that feels'cool' enough -he's not into football, and is not a great friend so DS has no ideas...
Thank you bargain hunters!

Questionsquestionsquestions · 12/09/2018 23:15

Sorry to derail from all things Christmas, but I'm hoping someone will have seen something perfect whilst on a Christmas hunt!

Jessica78 · 12/09/2018 23:22

Thanks to the PP who have clarified that the skimming links are Mumsnet and not otherwise! Apologies! Move on! Nothing to see here[santa]

Questionsquestionsquestions · 12/09/2018 23:22

Ps princessbear I found the Groupon Tesco offer but it won't let me use it-it says by invitation only, so I guess you'd know if you had it :(

louise5754 · 12/09/2018 23:25

For those wondering, just search for skimlinks and MNHQ. Here’s one explanation from Justine back in 2012

“JustineMumsnet
Yes these links are meant and it is a revenue thing. We've had skimlinks on the site for a bit in the form of an auto affiliate thing when people type in links. We make a decent amount of revenue from it - not loads but enough to pay for one of our servers and it seems reasonably unobtrusive. They've recently suggested we try linking to shop mentions too. I'm not quite sure how they choose them - think it's just who they have in their client list.

We hope it's not too intrusive - and that it might actually be mildly useful. We would certainly never do those pop up auto message links attached to keywords that you see on some sites and have turned those down a few times.

In any case do not be alarmed, your device hasn't gone doolally. And it won't be skimlinks making the site run slow - more likely server capacity. Will try to get to the bottom of it tomorrow.”

And more recently
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/2845367-Skimlinks-on-Talk
AmyGMumsnet

“Hi folks,

Some of you might have spotted a few more links in discussions across the site - this is because we're testing out a programme called Skimlinks, which auto-converts some of your brand mentions into links.

This makes it easier for you to have a look at products that other MNers happen to mention on the boards, and, if you decide to make a purchase from one of these links, Mumsnet benefits from a small commission.

Thanks all - let us know if you experience any issues that you think might be related.”

Dolphintrainer · 13/09/2018 06:12

@wuestionswuestionsquestions what about this “anywhere light” light? £8.71. I bought one recently for a 9 year old boy who has loved it. Ticked the cool box for him.
