Problems with online food shops - anyone else?

Anyone else had any dramas this year with their online christmas food shop?

We booked our ASDA delivery slot weeks ago for tomorrow, went today to add our amended trolley to it for the final shop.... and it kept forcing to book a new slot?!

Called up customer services and they told me that I apparently can only amend my order one week in advance. 🙄

In the end I had to clear my trolley of £100 worth of stuff and start a fresh in a new browser window to get it to work! It was a close one but we were nearly having £40 worth of baby milk for Christmas dinner!

Tesco delivered everything except the gammon. The most important item. As it’s just my husband and I we were having honey glazed gammon instead of turkey this year!

cliffdiver · 22/12/2017 19:29

Why is it surprising you have to amend a week in advance?

The shops need to know what items they’ll need to have available to deliver.

I’m sure you’d be the first to complain if you got loads of substitutions.

grounddown · 22/12/2017 19:31

Morrisons delivered everything but fabric conditioner which they subbed for a better brand.
I booked my slot weeks ago but added baileys and loo roll at midnight last night and it was delivered at 6 this evening. I love morrisons

Taffeta · 22/12/2017 19:31

First of two Ocado deliveries today. One sub one item missing. Neither important, no drama.

Theresnonamesleft · 22/12/2017 19:35

A week in advance.
That’s shocking. I can add things until midnight tonight for a delivery tomorrow lunchtime.

Flamingobaby37 · 22/12/2017 19:37

I won't use Asda again after they failed to deliver my shop a couple of years ago. I think i had an hour shop between 8 and 9. I waited up till midnight then put a note on the door. Customer services were awful! Didnt even get a phone call to explain in the morning i had to ring them! Sainsburys last year and no subs. Am awaiting delivery for tonight now.

Asda T&Cs say

.4.1 You can cancel or amend Your order at any time prior to Delivery or Collection. Due to how Our systems work, if You want to add goods to Your order and keep the same Delivery or Collection date, You need to Let Us Know before midnight on the day before Your order is due to be Delivered or Collected. If You want to remove goods from Your order or cancel it altogether, it is preferable if You Let Us Know before 5pm on the day before Your order is due to be Delivered or Collected. This helps Us keep Our costs down and Our prices low and releases Delivery and Collection slots for other customers. However if You forget or change Your mind later, simply tell Our driver when s/he Delivers Your order or Our Collection colleague when You Collect Your order, and s/he will initiate a refund and take away the goods You don't need.

Newdad19 · 22/12/2017 19:44

@grounddown probably because Asda is, and has always, allowed you to amend to midnight on the day before the delivery comes. And also because they had text and emailed me today to tell me that this was the case. Have you ever used an online shop? Pretty standard about the whole thing.

Sorry last post was supposed to be @cliffdiver not @grounddown 👍

I have done a morrisons online food shop every week for years thanks.

Newdad19 · 22/12/2017 19:50

Then you would know why its surprising to be expected not to have to have your order finished a week in advance without any amendments.

PurplePotatoes · 22/12/2017 19:52

Yes that is weird op as I've got a slot booked for tomorrow and have amended it several times over the last couple of days including today and had no problems
Like you say it's usually up to midnight the night before and we had an email today to say that. Glad you got it sorted though!

grounddown · 22/12/2017 19:53

I think it's shocking and wouldn't use asda again to be honest.

Whatsforu · 22/12/2017 19:57

I use Sainsburys and have done for the past year can't fault them. Christmas delivery spot on, updated it two nights ago.

Newdad19 · 22/12/2017 19:57

@purplepotatoes we have used them for years with no issues, I noticed the site seemed to have been updated since we last used it so think something has been messed up on the way

I had an Asda delivery today (no problems) and amended it on Wed night without any bother. Weird they said it was a week.

AntarticKittyClaws · 22/12/2017 20:01

I've had my Asda slot booked for tomorrow since November. I've been amending it pretty much the whole time, (three times today in fact) with no problems.

Hillbillyhotel · 22/12/2017 20:08

I’m the same as @PurplePotatoes,we’ve got a delivery tomorrow and I’ve amended it several times this week. Really poor form that it was different for you,I’d chase it further.

Newdad19 · 22/12/2017 20:15

They had put me on hold for ages and came back with that answer, I think they probably didnt really know so just tried to fob me off really.

SimonBridges · 22/12/2017 20:26

I call extreme bullshittery with that one week jazz op.

hellypad · 22/12/2017 20:29

It had my Asda delivery today and updated it about 6 o clock last night with no problems, so they are definitely taking rubbish.

wendz86 · 22/12/2017 20:30

I changed mine with Sainsbury’s last night . Delivered today and no substitutes . Apparently I’ve been the only lucky one though and they’ve run out of bacon ..

CecilyBlue · 22/12/2017 20:40

Just received my Tesco shop.

No carrots, sprouts or cabbage or mayonnaise.

They replaced my profiteroles (for Christmas Day pudding) with chocolate biscuits and replaced my kopperburg cider with alcohol free beer!
Also, all of the party food I ordered has a use by date of the 25th!

To top it off, the delivery man said he couldn’t refund anything as he didn’t have the machine he needed to do it so I have to take it all back to the store tomorrow and try and swap it.

I’m so annoyed I’ve just eaten a full box of maltesers Angry

Newdad19 · 22/12/2017 20:42

Thats pretty cecily! Think everyone with online orders is dreading thats them!

OP posts:
meditrina · 22/12/2017 20:46

I had Ocado half an hour late yesterday.

One (inappropriate) substitution and one item reported for refund (burst lid, but hadn't spilt on anything else) and one wrong quantity.

Not too bad, though as I only placed the order quite late, there were a few things out of stock which was a pity (cream, sour cream and cornflour)
