Problems with online food shops - anyone else?

Anyone else had any dramas this year with their online christmas food shop?

We booked our ASDA delivery slot weeks ago for tomorrow, went today to add our amended trolley to it for the final shop.... and it kept forcing to book a new slot?!

Called up customer services and they told me that I apparently can only amend my order one week in advance. 🙄

In the end I had to clear my trolley of £100 worth of stuff and start a fresh in a new browser window to get it to work! It was a close one but we were nearly having £40 worth of baby milk for Christmas dinner!

No it wasn't but to be fair with the goodwill gestures they paid for a lot of it.

ItMadeMyEyesWater · 23/12/2017 10:04

*2pm-3pm

Furball · 23/12/2017 10:12

Instead of 2 tubs of ready made bread sauce - I got a small sachet of white wine and mushroom sauce.......

Ginorchoc · 23/12/2017 10:16

Everything there with my Tesco, I wrote the picker a couple of Christmas jokes in the notes section and thanked them for their help. Everything has long dates even the fresh food which is usually the next day.

Drogonssmile · 23/12/2017 10:17

My Morrison's shop is coming today. They've sent me an email to say one lot of smoked salmon has been subbed for a smaller one but that's no big deal we have plenty anyway, and some party snack things have been replaced by far nicer sounding prawn ones! And my bill is about £6 cheaper than it was when I checked out!

Misstomrs · 23/12/2017 10:23

Sainsbury’s did our delivery last Christmas Eve. No turkey. Haven’t used them since. Tesco this year. Faultless. Although that may be more luck than judgement. We booked for 21st December this year and I think that helped. Really sorry those that haven’t got what they ordered. It’s a nightmare Flowers

Applesandpears23 · 23/12/2017 10:25

Ocado were here this morning on time with one appropriate sub and one trivial missing item and we managed to get it all in the fridge!

Glumglowworm · 23/12/2017 10:29

Asda have been (on time) but with no receipt and no machine as they said their system was down.

A lot more substitutions than normal but not crazy ones. Unfortunately most just weren’t to my taste so have gone back. I’d already checked online so knew what to look for to hand back which was good cause they weren’t sure what was substitutions and what wasn’t. But it was only things like smarties instead of jelly tots, a different brand of cheese crackers, a different kind of posh sausages, nothing ridiculous. The worst one was a free from Christmas pudding instead of a normal one. So very tame compared to some people’s!

Off to buy a Christmas pudding, crackers for cheese, cooking apples and Brie from my local shop, thankfully all the heavy stuff arrived without issue.

WeirdCatLady · 23/12/2017 10:38

Well tesco think it’s fine to send 212g of steak when I’ve ordered 488g 🙄

TellMeItsNotTrue · 23/12/2017 10:49

I was impressed with Tesco yesterday, didn't have 1 party food out of 3for2 so they reduced the other 2 items by a third instead (and showed it on the subs list so it was obvious) which was great because I wouldn't have wanted any of the other party food or an extra one of the 2 I had ordered, and the item they didn't have was the cheapest and least wanted anyway!

Other than that we only had a few subs, no worse than normal week, reasonable stuff and none of the Christmas stuff was missing/subbed just general stuff like orange juice

SomethingPhishy · 23/12/2017 11:02

My Asda update:

12 rashers bacon subbed with 8 thick rashers
Medium free range eggs dubbed with extra large free range eggs
Walkers Mediterranean crisps subbed with walkers garlic herb crackers

So not bad out of 45 items, let's hope it is delivered ok!

Bumbumtaloo · 23/12/2017 11:03

My Morrison’s order is due 8pm - 9pm tonight, we had to make sure any updates were done and checked out by 11.59pm in Wednesday. I don’t usually get shopping delivered so assumed this was normal. I’m now a little nervous after reading this thread.

Graphista · 23/12/2017 11:10

Martell - if they can't cope with people putting basic items in to reserve a slot then they shouldn't offer the service. It's their job to plan ahead and to predict fairly accurately what will be required, they (and consequently customers) pay experts a LOT of money to do exactly this! In addition some is just common sense - seasonal items ARE going to be in high demand.

I lost my shit with Asda Nov last year due to sheer incompetence, the customer service is extremely poor. I haven't used them since. Not even in store.

I now use sainsburys and for the most part they've been excellent. Christmas shop arrived thu, one sub (non-veggie item for a veggie item I never get the logic of that) and short date on carrots for Xmas day, no big deal everything else sorted.

I'm surprised at those posters "I'm all sorted...it's due later/tomorrow" who seem to be surprised at posters who's orders haven't arrived well, haven't you heard of "don't count your chickens?" (Turkeys?) if your order hasn't arrived yet I do hope it's all ok but you don't know.

Bumbumtaloo · 23/12/2017 11:14

Just checked my Morrison’s order and only 2 items unavailable - bread sauce and our usual bread, DH will pop out at some point to get them.

NoUseNumber31 · 23/12/2017 11:24

Sainsbury's were great this year, don't normally use them but left it too late to get a slot with tesco or Asda!

Only 2 subs (one admittedly was a bit stupid - gf stuffing replaced by breadcrumbs?!) but was pleasantly surprised by the overall price and amended the order several times right up until the 11pm cut off the day before. Will be using them next year!

BewareOfTheToddler · 23/12/2017 11:27

Sainsburys have been fab this year for us - first year we've been at home for Christmas. They turned up 15 minutes early this morning and not a substitution in sight. Very impressed. Would have been better if both the lightbulbs had been intact, and if the sugar bag didn't have a small hole in it but to be fair, they refunded both on the spot.

Oh, and I was pissing about amending it several times yesterday up to 25 minutes before 2300 when no further changes are allowed. Will definitely do this again!

Aragog · 23/12/2017 11:32

Mine is coming, via Ocado, this evening. I had until 11:30pm, on the 21st to amend it - but had regular emails/text to remind me to do so.

It appears that I have two missing items - some apples and some part baed bread rolls. Neither are essential items anyway. I think I have no subs ticked, hence no alternatives I guess. Can imagine they have run out of all apples!

Strummerville · 23/12/2017 11:40

I used Ocado, everything present except toilet paper Xmas Smile

Was nervous as had seen quite a few items I'd ordered were out of stock, but I guess they had reserved them as all were delivered.

BWatchWatcher · 23/12/2017 12:19

I used Tesco.
Everything was fine. I used Asda a few years ago and they were complete pants.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 23/12/2017 12:35

Couldn't amend Waitrose order yesterday despite email clearly stating it could be done until 11pm. And then, to add insult to injury, I was told I'd booked the wrong kind of slot for collection and they didn't have the order. So, almost two hours in the shop doing the shopping, 3/4 hours waiting for them to sort out the order and actually having to show them where items were that they told me were out of stock. Shambles.

stoplickingthetelly · 23/12/2017 12:51

I use asda. It's being delivered today and I was able to amend my order last night. Have just received a confirmation email though and there are loads of substitutions. At least it's 10! Even basic stuff like orange squash.

RoseDog · 23/12/2017 14:42

Mine has arrived, in the time slot, a few subs but nothing major, I kept them all! The poor delivery man looked exhausted.

TheOnlyPink · 23/12/2017 15:06

Been getting a tesco delivery for years now. This year was the first time I had to send anything back. They subbed brandy butter with single cream, tub of posh Turkey gravy with vegetable stock and 2 loaves of bread were going off tomorrow. No mince pies.

On the plus side they rang to see if they could deliver 20 mins early.

percypig · 23/12/2017 15:15

My Sainsbury’s order just arrived - way more substitutions than normal, but most of them made a bit of sense.

I am disappointed that my free range taste the difference basted Turkey crown has been changed for a normal turkey with bones and wings, but as I’m a vegetarian I won’t actually be eating it. I do think I might go back to getting the turkey from M&S or a butcher next year - have never had an issue with them and only changed this year as I’m catering for far fewer than normal.

Manchego being swapped for Bleu D’Auvergne seems a strange substitute to me, but I suppose it is still cheese.

Newdad19 · 23/12/2017 15:32

Wow @whatwouldthedoctordo sounds like a nightmare!
