Problems with online food shops - anyone else?

Anyone else had any dramas this year with their online christmas food shop?

We booked our ASDA delivery slot weeks ago for tomorrow, went today to add our amended trolley to it for the final shop.... and it kept forcing to book a new slot?!

Called up customer services and they told me that I apparently can only amend my order one week in advance. 🙄

In the end I had to clear my trolley of £100 worth of stuff and start a fresh in a new browser window to get it to work! It was a close one but we were nearly having £40 worth of baby milk for Christmas dinner!

I had my fruit and veg delivered by a local greengrocer this morning, Ocado will be bringing the rest in the morning. I had to finalise my order by 11:30 last night but that's usual for them at Christmas.

I've been having a Christmas Eve delivery from Ocado for years and never had any problems, an occasional sub but nothing weird. I've often had a free gift, one year it was a tin of biscuits, I assume they've all been things they've overstocked and will have to heavily discount after Christmas.

Anything they don't bring we won't have I won't be going near a shop now until the middle of next week at the earliest.

I've had very clear instructions including reminder texts and emails, so how people have managed to leave nappies and champagne filled trollies until it's too late to amend the order I don't know.

Tesco brought us turkey that will

Sainsbury's delivered Friday morning. Totally fabulous. Everything. No replacements. I even got a free grapefruit!! Wierd.

Only trouble was. He nearly didn't deliver. Because I was fast asleep in bed at 7am, and forgot all about it. He knocked and knocked and said he was just about to leave. Blush phew!

Fruitboxjury · 23/12/2017 17:17

Another happy Ocado customer here. A couple of sensible substitutions, one important item missing.

I was able to amend it until 36h before, fine - they gave me lots of notice and lots of texts.

They honoured all the thinks I checked out last month which have been out of stock for ages, good for them. They also send a reminder a month ago asking me to update my basket in plenty of time for them to order from suppliers (ie a couple of weeks ago).

I don’t think it’s fair to put your order in the night before and expect it all to be available at this time of year.

We gave our driver a £10 tip to say merry Christmas. They work so hard and are such a huge help to me

Saucery · 23/12/2017 17:20

Booths collect in store order all correct. Some party food Use By 24th, but that’s when we are having it so absolutely fine. They still gave it us for free though.
Queuing a bit chaotic, not much room to wait for your order to come through and time slots were backing up, but the staff were great - very friendly and efficient despite spillages and Moaners.

Newdad19 · 23/12/2017 18:54

@fruitboxjury I had always thought the drivers were not alliwed to accept any gifts, even if they wanted to. Maybe just certain supermarkets

We have Asda deliveries all the time no issues, had an email from them yesterday to say no pigs in blankets are available for deliveries this evening, I went and got them this morning so was glad they let me know! I rang once when they were 10 mins late and got a £10 evoucher! The driver arrived about 5 mins after I got off the phone.
Just waiting for the Xmas food to arrive from them now Xmas Smile

PandaPieForTea · 23/12/2017 22:56

We got a text from Ocado saying we had a high level of substitutions and missing items. The hardest one to replace locally was dried apricots. They had run out of custard too, just regular Ambrosia, which I found a bit odd. But I didn’t have to go to a supermarket, so I’m happy.

AdoraBell · 23/12/2017 23:02

Sainsbury’s delivered everything except a gluten free fruit loaf, and I clicked No Substitute for that one. It’s not an issue not having it tbh.

MadgeMak · 23/12/2017 23:16

I got my delivery from Tesco today. Fine, a few substitutions but these were in the main an upgrade to finest range so totally fine. You can amend until just before midnight the night before (as with usual delivery slots), but any special Christmas items (e.g. turkey, gammon joints, large party platters etc.) have to be pre ordered by a certain date. Perhaps asda have a similar policy and that’s what they meant when they said you have to finalize your order a week before. Bog standard groceries shouldn’t be impacted though, shit of them if that’s the case.

Newdad19 · 23/12/2017 23:56

@madgemak it was all bog standard unfortunately. I just seemed to have an iasue with their app and website - not sure if its caused i had used the both of them or what.

They contacted me back on their twitter customer support today saying that it was misinformation I was giving on the phone and offered a £10 voucher.

Glad to hear most peoples have turned out well!

Hows all the christmas eve deliveries going?

OP posts:
Taffeta · 24/12/2017 13:09

Second Ocado order received yesterday - one item subbed that wasn’t important.

Very impressed. Turkey was not only a bargain but had a free meat thermometer in the box. Ham looks wonderful too, veg all super fresh.

Fridge Jenna took an hour!

Taffeta · 24/12/2017 13:10

Jenga

BatShite · 24/12/2017 14:54

Ours was fine, ish. Only issue was they subbed carrots for fucking oranges?! Our local shop sells carrots so its not a problem, but in what way is an orange a substitute for a carrot? Hmm

SimonBridges · 24/12/2017 15:00

Same colour?

BatShite · 24/12/2017 15:02

Well yes theres that I guess Grin

Can't see family being impressed with oranges on their xmas dinner though

fedup2017 · 24/12/2017 15:04

Waitrose here. No bother at all ice cream subbed for a organic posh brand but charge for the cheaper one I'd ordered. (Already had big stuff like Turkey and ham in freezer though)

caoraich · 24/12/2017 15:13

My Sainsbury's order arrived last night. They substituted some stuff for better stuff which was fine, but literally all of the diet/low sugar fancy drinks I had got have been substituted with full sugar. My DM doesn't drink and is diabetic so I had got sugar free schloer (if that's how you spell it!?) so she can have something bubbly at lunch plus light tonic waters which she likes. The guy seemed annoyed at having to go through the boxes taking away the substitutes, but they'd just have been wasted! Thankfully my local random corner shop had exactly what I needed (though slightly dusty) and I have bought all of their "diet drinks that aren't coke/irn bru" Grin

zippyswife · 24/12/2017 15:17

Iceland here. Thought I’d try them as people were raving about them.

Delivery was last night. They didn’t deliver the turkey the ham or the stuffing. I didn’t even receive an apology or an email early in the day letting me know so I could reorganise. Fortunately dh swiped the last turkey at Sainsbury’s this morning.

This is why mums don’t go to Iceland.

herecomesthsun · 24/12/2017 18:55

Ocado order arrived yesterday evening with no subs, very pleased.

This included a whole leg of lamb for about £10 that we have decided to have for Xmas dinner.

Equimum · 24/12/2017 20:06

Our Ocado arrived yesterday, and they were unable to supply Brie, Branson pickle and vegetable oil?!!!!!

Substitutions were washing-up liquid brand and type of apples.

Jenniferturkington · 24/12/2017 20:41

Waitrose delivery was fine- 2 subs both an upgrade.
M&S food collection not so great, a delivery lorry had apparently broken down so we have a different turkey joint and no cauliflower cheese.
But overall it seems to have worked out fine, and I've not been in a supermarket for days!

marriednotdead · 25/12/2017 00:14

Asda emailed to say a few items would not be on my order 48 hours beforehand. Delivery was due 9-11pm last night. They emailed in the morning to say they wouldn't have the whole ham, large chicken or lamb leg which constituted dinner for Christmas Eve/Day!
Dashed out to Sainsbury's and luckily got them there. Remaining order (less than half of original) arrived with a few substitutes and a split carton of cream. Not impressed.
Merry Christmas!
