So we're nearly there now, I'm counting down on one hand the number of sleeps!

Still time to post info on Christmas bargains but I'd also love to hear how the gifts you got went down on the big day and also share notes on sale finds

HAPPY CHRISTMAS,!!!

Hooray! It's arrived, in the last post before Xmas. Niece has her present. Don't even know if it's a real one or not. Looks like it is. Don't care - it's here!

Cookie tell us a rough budget and a little bit about what she likes.

cookiefiend · 23/12/2017 13:52

@RJnomore1 budget probably no real issue for the right thing as we could all chip in if he needed. But maybe around £50?

Flowers are a nice idea, but she gets a bunch or two from overseas relatives at Christmas so no space right now. She is very sensitive to smells so no lotions etc as they make her cough. They always enjoyed travelling, but can't really now though they spent a few nights in a hotel recently- I wonder about this closer to home.

She likes to look her best, but is quite particular about clothes etc. She has five children- only two in the country. She has an (old) iPad. A fantastic sense of humour. She like the idea of experiences, which we have all got her, but I think my grandfather wants something to hand her.

Thanks- I just wish he has asked earlier, but he said he was sorted.

RJnomore1 · 23/12/2017 13:53

I'm imaging a lovely cashmere throw for some reason. Something soft and luxurious which she can snuggle in if she's not feeling well.

I'm off to frantically google. Delivery only or can you get to shops?

stressedoutfred · 23/12/2017 13:53

Earrings cookie?

stressedoutfred · 23/12/2017 13:54

Lovely idea RJ

RJnomore1 · 23/12/2017 13:57

RJnomore1 · 23/12/2017 13:58

Aargh delivery after Christmas but if there's a JL near you...

Whinesalot · 23/12/2017 13:58

Maybe not for now but you can buy memory bears that are specially made out of a loved ones clothes (or old baby clothes).

stressedoutfred · 23/12/2017 13:58

Luxury pair of pyjamas? Silk?

cookiefiend · 23/12/2017 14:21

You guys are so kind as always- @RJnomore1 in particular for all the effort- thank you so much. We live not 15 minutes from John Lewis. I will suggest it to him now- that and the pjs. My mum is out getting photo frames and we have gotten loads printed. So that will be good too.

Honestly I know how busy this weekend is and I am so touched that you took the time to help.

I really hope he gets something lovely cookie. Such a bittersweet Christmas for you all Flowers

margaritasbythesea · 23/12/2017 16:37

Cookie - as an after thought to the other great suggestions, when we were in this position with my Dad I got him a DVD of a film he had loved in his 20s but didn´t have. We watched it all together on Christmas Day. I think he really enjoyed that.

CoffeeAndEnnui · 23/12/2017 17:23

Hugely beholden to the PP who shared the news of Unicorn Fingerlings at The Entertainer. I was too late for online but sent DP to check shelves on the offchance when he popped into town and he found a single pink one waiting for us in store!

Our DD would never ask for one as we're always quite anti the 'must have toys' but I know she'll secretly love the hideous thing so I've been looking on the quiet. Was resigned to going without until today. Can't wait to see her face.

SpecialK24 · 23/12/2017 18:23

I really want a MICHAEL KORS ACCESS
Sofie Pavé Silver-Tone Smartwatch for Xmas but it's £349 cheapest I can find it. Do you think it will go down some where after Xmas? Or will there be any voucher codes for Ernest jones or house of Fraser that will work on it?! Sorry it's not a barging xx

Notlongnow1 · 23/12/2017 20:10

@cookiefiend I expect you are sorted by now but your thread touched a nerve as my auntie died of pancreatic cancer. In her last weeks she enjoyed watching lighthearted films so I think as others have suggested, pyjamas, a snuggley blanket and a DVD could be perfect. The blanket would also be something nice that her husband could keep as a comfort when she's gone. Glad they've got such a loving family around at such a hard time x

Sorry that was a bit of a downer on this thread but it was in response to Cookie and the PP.

Saladtongs · 23/12/2017 22:25

Tesco has reduced their Christmas trees so if you're wanting to buy a new one for 2018 then it might be worth buying one in the sales.

Cookie john lewis sell avoca throws, which are beautiful although over budget. Like pp. said I'm sure you're sorted but if not could look out for them.

Freezingwinter · 24/12/2017 06:22

Maybe already posted and too late for Christmas delivery and their shops are shut but..
Entertainer has lots of fingerlings in stock online x
