Thread 19 - loling with our fingerlings

Reastie · 05/12/2017 18:51

A rubbish thread title but, well, it's 19 now!

20 days until Christmas, I'm imagining us all wrapping late at night like little festive elves readying ourselves for how excited everyone will be with their bargainous presents.

Any referral links to go on this separate thread please

I’m very very almost nearly done! Just some more sweets needed to fill dm sweet jar as I underestimated and last few bits coming via Amazon tomorrow.

Although I’m twitching as I’ve barely bought the baby anything compared to her sister even though she’s only 9mo and has no clue I’m getting the Mum guilt!

Can I also say thank you to whoever mentioned on a previous thread about putting stocking presents in those paper candy bags. Great idea and has saved me loads of time and they still look good! Plus I have loads of bags left over for the next year or two at least!

LavateLasManos · 18/12/2017 16:08

Just managed to bag an elusive fingerling on Amazon, the purple one which DD was after Xmas Grin

MissRainbowBrite · 18/12/2017 16:22

@snowbellina definitely set the Xbox up before Christmas Day.
I did DS's last year and it took almost 16 hours to do all its updates. I had to hide it under a pile of stuff while it was hooked up to the tv in our bedroom. It's a good job I hadn't done it on the living room tv. Also, the servers tend to be extremely busy on Christmas Day with lots of excited children setting up consoles so much easier to do it beforehand then it's ready to go.

Fingermoose · 18/12/2017 16:26

There are pink fingerlings on Amazon (prime only) for £14.99.

Uptheduffy · 18/12/2017 16:27

OR choose not to set up the games console in advance if it means they then play with other stuff and talk to granny etc on Xmas day, as once it’s up and running you won’t see them for weeks!

Uptheduffy · 18/12/2017 16:29

I’ve been trying to explain to dh how much work has gone into, not only buying all the stuff, but sourcing the best prices for it all. He really hasn’t a clue. Maybe next year i’ll hand it over to him...

snowbellina · 18/12/2017 17:37

Thank you for the Xbox advice.
I think we will set up in advance as it's his only proper thing and he'll be gutted if he has to wait 16hrs to play!

Does it matter if we sat it up on our tv upstairs or does it need to be set up on the downstairs telly that it will be played on?

snowbellina · 18/12/2017 17:38

I totally get you uptheduffy - even wrapping one dc's presents today took my time and dh has no idea the time and effort that goes in to everyone's presents 😣

BrawneLamia · 18/12/2017 17:40

I'm done, thanks to everyone on this thread, especially reastie. Flowers

Dp has to buy for his family still (adults only, I buy for the children). He hasn't started yet but has a day off on Thursday so he thinks that's fine. With a dc in tow. On the first day of the school holidays. I can't see any problem Grin

BrawneLamia · 18/12/2017 17:41

To be fair, he wraps everything because my wrapping looks like it was done by a small child.

bunbunny · 18/12/2017 17:46

Dubious glad the candy bag stocking wrapping has worked well - I was really impressed with it last year Grin

But can I add an addendum to the tip - I too have loads of bags left over, ready for this year... I thought I'd carefully packed them in the christmas boxes ready for this year... But I can't find them. Yikes. will have to do some more tidying supersleuthing to find then... So make a note of where you put them ready for next year!

MermaidCafe · 18/12/2017 17:46

Pink and purple fingerlings back in stock at amazon for next day delivery!!!!

hereitis · 18/12/2017 17:48

Snowbelina it shouldn’t matter about the tv used we can move ours upstairs or downstairs it’s all the same. But be aware once you choose a username for Xbox it’s not something that can be changed (I think you actually have to pay them)

NoSquirrels · 18/12/2017 17:48

Thanks fingermoose!

Pink & purple both coming via Prime tomorrow- ToysRUs cancelled my order & I’d given up but happy now!

MissRainbowBrite · 18/12/2017 18:21

You're right @hereitis it doesn't matter which tv it's set up on. It can be packed away again once it's set up and then put on any tv you wish. I think you get one free username change but please check this as I'm not 100% sure.

snowbellina · 18/12/2017 18:23

Thank you! Just told dh the good news that it's going to take 16 hrs to set up!

The username thing - is this something that is potentially public, so should be anonymous, but cool for a teen?

MissRainbowBrite · 18/12/2017 19:06

Once you set it going you don't need to sit and watch it just keep checking it every so often as it may need you to ok things.
Fingers crossed it won't take that long for you.
You do get one free name change ( I had a quick check on Microsoft) so choose something random then he can change it when he wants too. Also, don't forget to set up any parental controls if you link a credit card to it. It would be easy to rack up a big bill buying coins/tokens etc. And if he wants to play online with friends you'll probably be badgered into buying the Xbox Live Gold subscription.

RupertsMum2 · 18/12/2017 19:29

Our Tesco store had a lot of the Gluten free Christmas food reduced today. Boxes of 3 different shortbreads for £1.24, a lovely tin of cookies for £2, selection boxes (also dairy free I think) £1 also Christmas pudding and some sort of cake. I'm well stocked up now!

RenardeRenarde · 18/12/2017 20:13

Ooh snowbellina that looks fun! Good shout!

woodwaj · 18/12/2017 20:17

I've had a few leaflets today. Boden up to 50% off sale started yesterday and Emma Bridgewater sale starts 9am Thurs 21st

EllaBells · 18/12/2017 20:55

Thank you @snowbellina and @herecomesthsun for the suggestions they all look great.

I also go to lego first but really grudge how little you get for £10 Smile

I have a few different board games on the list but its not knowing which ones they already have which drives me mad!

Rosie2000 · 18/12/2017 21:33

My dh has agreed to dd11 getting a phone for Christmas- I have no idea where to start. I can get her an O2 contract or pay as you go for the time being. I know nothing about mobiles or what to get, dd is the most fashion conscious of all of us- help!

AgnesBrownsCat · 18/12/2017 22:12

With regards to mobile phones , have a look at mobile phones direct . Also check out the comparison websites as you can alter the plan to what you think she would use/ need in terms of minutes, data etc . Money saving expert and there’s anothe one I’ve used in he past but I can’t recall the name .

snowbellina · 18/12/2017 22:24

Rosie, my dd (14) has my old iPhone 5s and a contract for £5 a month, so it can work out pretty cheap.
My friend got refurbished phones for her ds's from giff gaff, which is probably worth a look.

BWatchWatcher · 18/12/2017 23:02

www.giffgaff.com/mobile-phones/pre-owned
The prices are great, comes with a warranty and buy through quidco! Don't forget a case.
