A rubbish thread title but, well, it's 19 now!

20 days until Christmas, I'm imagining us all wrapping late at night like little festive elves readying ourselves for how excited everyone will be with their bargainous presents.

Any referral links to go on this separate thread please

Help please!

Have any of you had a turkey or turkey joint from Costco?
And did you order it in advance so it came through the post?

I usually order my turkey well in advance from M&S or Waitrose and while the turkey is always nice, the stress of picking it up (the parking, the discovering that they've lost it again, etc etc) left me thinking I'd try Costco as their meat is often good. On their website the last order date is the 19th so figured no problem. Popped into Costco today to order in store rather than online to discover that you can only order online, and those are sent out on the Friday (with a use by date of Boxing Day).

Which left me thinking - eeek. Don't really want to be hanging around on Friday for a delivery especially if the weather's going to be unseasonably mild. I usually reckon on getting the turkey on the day or two before Christmas, having it even earlier means it hanging around in my fridge for longer and the fridge isn't that big or super reliable, especially if thinking of having raw poultry in it for a few days.

So thought sod it, I'll order from M&S or Waitrose and be done with it, only to discover that I've missed their order dates (I'd checked them all out ages ago and thought they were all the same - should have checked back more recently - they were all similar but Costco was the outlier - big oops). And even Sainsburys, Tesco and Morrisons have passed their dates too.

So - has anybody had the Costco turkey (thinking of just the breast joint, we don't need a whole turkey), was it any good and was it ok being delivered rather than getting in through a shop?

Also - I haven't had to buy a turkey off the shelf just before Christmas for years - do they have plenty and where to go for the nicest - or are there any to avoid!

Can't believe I've been so organised with presents this year and now have screwed up the turkey. (dh loves turkey, I really can't be bothered with it, it's not a treat meal at all for me - but I don't want to let him down or for him to think that I've deliberately sabotaged it!)

Thanks for the advice GrinFlowers

Hash me too!!!!!

It also made dd want to rewrite her list and she's added other stuffHmm

PerfumeIsAMessage · 18/12/2017 06:02

Grid it you say?

Cupoteap · 18/12/2017 06:09

I know some of you will understand...had my first Smiggle experience yesterday with dd ShockConfused

For such a tiny shop they've crammed in an awful lot of stuff.

Escaped with £14 worth of scented pencils, pens and highlighters

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 18/12/2017 06:33

Argghhhh. Sorry I've not been back, @RockySpeed. I did PM you yesterday though.

Almost straight after I'd said I had the Fingerling one of my best friends told me she'd bought a crap fake from somewhere (god knows why she didn't listen to my advice!) and asked if she could have my spare one.

I'm so sorry. I will keep a close eye out for you this week.

bunbunny - we’ve bought our turkey off the shelf from M & S or Waitrose for the last 6 years. I always bottle it and buy 22/23 Dec but if you can bear to wait til 24 then Waitrose often reduce them.

I love buying them off the shelf. There are always plenty to choose from, and I saunter past the massive collection queue and breeze through the tills. I’ve always either gone very early in the day, or got DH to pick one up in Central London.

Hi all, if anyone has a spare ELC code, please let me know!

Also, does anyone know about XBox 1s - does it need setting up before Christmas Day opening?? 🤷‍♀️😬

Thanks!

HoneyDragon · 18/12/2017 11:05

I always get the Jimmys Farm Bronze delivered from Costco. It’s fantastic quality meat, you’d be paying nearly double per kilo for the same at M&S and Waitrose.

We used to used the butcher but got let down, then switched to M&S but weren’t overwhelmed. Then Waitrose but they cocked up two years in a row so tried Costco on a whim and never looked back Smile

HoneyDragon · 18/12/2017 11:07

Also thanks for the UD at Debenhams nod. I hadn’t seen it on HDUK, I hope it turns up as UD direct struggle with my address and I need it for my niece.

Whitecovers · 18/12/2017 11:32

Last year I went to M&S at about 4 o clock and got a half price turkey. They were also bringing out trolleys of veg and selling them for 10p etc. Will be chancing it again this year!

mycatislickingherpaw · 18/12/2017 11:40

whitecovers 4pm on the 24th?

Spam88 · 18/12/2017 11:54

snowbell the console and games might need updating? (I am not an expert, but whenever my husband comes home from working away he spends hours updating all his games).**

jaimelannistersgoldenhand · 18/12/2017 12:29

The Xbox1, Xbox Live (if playing online) and any games will need setting up.

Taffeta · 18/12/2017 12:34

Gin - I’ve got one unused gathering dust. Can’t get to a P.O. before Xmas though - where do you live?! PM me.

Not sure if already been posted
But character.com has £5 off £20 spend with code GIFT5

bunbunny · 18/12/2017 12:51

many thanks for that @HoneyDragon

Just wondering about the delivery aspect of it - is it a timed delivery or one you just have to wait in for? And does it come really cold? Sounds like you're pleased with it though...

Sorry for all the questions - in panic mode as dh is convinced if we don't order in advance we will not have any turkey and doesn't want to risk getting one on 23/24th Dec although I'm sure we'll be ok if we do!

Whitecovers · 18/12/2017 13:14

Oops sorry, yes Christmas Eve for the M&S turkeys.

HoneyDragon · 18/12/2017 13:15

It’s all day but tracked and comes specially packed so is cold. Only thing to bear in mind is they take the actually payment on dispatch, so if you’ve precooked really early remember to make sure the moneys in your account on delivery day Grin

newsparklythings · 18/12/2017 14:09

Got one of those Spirographs on ebay a while back, am saving it for DD's 5th Christmas though.. they are a bit rare now! But still a great toy :)

lifelongfrugaleer · 18/12/2017 14:12

who said about using an ironing board to wrap on - Genius - back does hurt half as much!

I need 1 more santa pressie for DD and then presents from me and her DB. She is 10 - luckily i have Thus and Friday off work too.

DubiousCredentials · 18/12/2017 14:24

Is there ever such a thing as a Seasalt code? I want something for DM and am dithering. It’s free delivery already but even that’s not convincing me 🤔

DubiousCredentials · 18/12/2017 14:29

Ooh and while I’m thinking about it I’ll share a bargainous find. Cineworld are doing gift boxes - includes two tickets (2d or 3D), two regular drinks, a regular popcorn and two Malteaser reindeer things for £25. It is £4.50 for delivery though. However I was about to book tickets for dh and ds to see the new Star Wars in 3d which would have been over £30, so I bought the gift box instead. So not a massive saving when you add in postage but good value if it’s used for the pricey 3D screenings.

Valid for 6mths from 26th Dec.
