Help please!
Have any of you had a turkey or turkey joint from Costco?
And did you order it in advance so it came through the post?
I usually order my turkey well in advance from M&S or Waitrose and while the turkey is always nice, the stress of picking it up (the parking, the discovering that they've lost it again, etc etc) left me thinking I'd try Costco as their meat is often good. On their website the last order date is the 19th so figured no problem. Popped into Costco today to order in store rather than online to discover that you can only order online, and those are sent out on the Friday (with a use by date of Boxing Day).
Which left me thinking - eeek. Don't really want to be hanging around on Friday for a delivery especially if the weather's going to be unseasonably mild. I usually reckon on getting the turkey on the day or two before Christmas, having it even earlier means it hanging around in my fridge for longer and the fridge isn't that big or super reliable, especially if thinking of having raw poultry in it for a few days.
So thought sod it, I'll order from M&S or Waitrose and be done with it, only to discover that I've missed their order dates (I'd checked them all out ages ago and thought they were all the same - should have checked back more recently - they were all similar but Costco was the outlier - big oops). And even Sainsburys, Tesco and Morrisons have passed their dates too.
So - has anybody had the Costco turkey (thinking of just the breast joint, we don't need a whole turkey), was it any good and was it ok being delivered rather than getting in through a shop?
Also - I haven't had to buy a turkey off the shelf just before Christmas for years - do they have plenty and where to go for the nicest - or are there any to avoid!
Can't believe I've been so organised with presents this year and now have screwed up the turkey. (dh loves turkey, I really can't be bothered with it, it's not a treat meal at all for me - but I don't want to let him down or for him to think that I've deliberately sabotaged it!)
Thanks for the advice
