Minster when I searched on the National Trust website for my region it said that there were no events but the calendar was defaulting to 2016. Once I changed the dates to 2017 loads of events appeared.

CbeebiesAddict · 08/09/2017 08:49

M&S are just taking the piss now Angry

Fruit for the wreath looks amazing!!!! Hoping to get a bit more DIY when DS is older :)

Annwithnoe · 08/09/2017 09:05

Firefly I love the jumper idea for DD! It would be really sweet with a little teddy peeping out of the stocking (would it work to remove some stuffing to make it softer and flatter?)

Loving all the crafty ideas. Wreath making is definitely an investment. I did a Christmas cake class a few years ago and it was brilliant. Expensive for one cake but cheap for all the cakes I've made since stuffs receipts into apron pocket so DH doesn't see how much I've spent on fondant and equipment

pigley I love the idea of a snowflake runner, but need to master crochet with fine wool as I've only ever done woolly stuff which hides my mistakes

hairspray thinking of you. I've had a skint Christmas though it helped that the kids were small enough not to want £££ of stuff. Hoping something turns up for your dh soon. But if you find you need tips and tricks I'm sure we'll have loads of ideas

Minster2012 · 08/09/2017 09:15

@tootsieglitterballs I'm east yorks & have been to fountains abbey (lovely) unfortunately an hour & half away Angry

Unfortunately all the pheasant feathers I used from OH shoot for our wedding couple years ago disappeared in house move otherwise I'd be doing things with them, going to try & collect as many as I can this season early & dry quickly for wreaths/ garlands vases but it's best to dry for a year to bend ☹️
Love feathers in things

FireflyGirl · 08/09/2017 10:24

Minster, have PM'd you about wreath making.

Talking of pheasants, I used to live in the middle of a big city, and driving through an industrial area one Christmas Day to get from where I lived with DH to my parents' house, I saw a pheasant just wandering along the side of the road. It made me chuckle to think someone's lunch had escaped Grin

BiddyPop · 08/09/2017 10:58

I was trying to finish going through my craft materials this morning, and opened the (UFO) box of felt Christmas Decorations - loads of ribbons, sequins, nice buttons etc, and 3 Gingerbread men and 6 red stockings cut out!! One GBM had most of its decoration done, the others are still blank. So if I get myself organized, they would be easy things to work on watching tv in the coming weeks and small enough for DH to accept them staying at home.

(I need to shift a lot of my craft materials to the storage unit, as I just don't have time to work on them at present.....cards, knitting, crochet, sewing (big and little projects, and just fabric ..well...because they look nice and "I will use those sometime"), beads for jewellery making, candlemaking, cross-stitch, cardboard shapes to paint and scrapbook/decorate.......I think I may need an intervention!)

NoWordForFluffy · 08/09/2017 10:58

CBeebies, I've properly fallen out with M&S! If it wasn't for the fact I have a £75 voucher to spend I'd have flounced good and proper! 😂

At least Booths have never released their offerings early, so there's no anticipation or disappointment involved!

CbeebiesAddict · 08/09/2017 11:04

I would abscond fluffy but nowhere else appears to have released Sad

SideOrderofSprouts · 08/09/2017 12:07

Happy birthday fridges son!

HairsprayBabe · 08/09/2017 12:28

Thanks all, we dont have kids yet so that is one less thing to worry about.

I always think it is weird that I am on here with no kids, joined up when I was 18 and in such a crappy place, got so much good advice from here over the years, this is just another thing to get through!

FireflyGirl · 08/09/2017 15:15

I joined before I had kids, too, Hairspray, or before they were even a twinkle in DH's eye. Over 5 years ago, though I'm not sure exactly how long.

I handed my notice in at my job, and they made me work the three months notice out of spite, so I relegated myself to a desk in a corner where nobody overlooked me, and while surfing I stumbled upon Mumsnet as somewhere to go and chat with other crazy Christmas loons Grin

I had a miscarriage about 2 years after that and the support on here was invaluable.

Fingers crossed your DH finds something soon. I'm sure you will have a lovely Christmas regardless, but you will probably feel better able to enjoy it if your financial situation is stable.

HandbagCrazy · 08/09/2017 15:19

Unfortunately I think we've all been there Hairspray. A few years ago I was in a new pt job and got ill. Was in hospital for a month then off work for a further 6 weeks with no pay in the lead up to Christmas. Iirc we gave everyone homemade edible gifts - shortbread and Welsh cakes I think. It was hard but no one else minded.
Fingers crossed for him to find something soon.

PS - I also have no children and have been here for a few years now. Joined to get support for something quite specific (under diff name) and liked it so much I just never left Xmas Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 08/09/2017 16:11

Hairspray, I'm having the same problem re 3 months' notice with my job. It really is due to spite, no more, no less.

Gives me the rage, I tell you!

CBeebies, I think that Iceland has released their stuff. Not sure about anybody else though, but there's normally a widespread release in July, isn't there?

tootsieglitterballs · 08/09/2017 19:54

@Minster2012 they used to do wreath making at burton Agnes hall if that helps! And I would expect somewhere like rise hall to do it too. Always worth trying 😊

Minster2012 · 08/09/2017 20:49

Thank you ladies for the wreath making support, after looking long & hard (there is one but on my anniversary weekend suggested by @firefly thank you!) I may have to just try & make my own & make it in advance of Halloween in case it looks more Blair witch!!!

Minster2012 · 08/09/2017 20:50

However, got some great bargains/presents today in a marathon TKmaxx session big that should be for another thread!!!! 🎄🎄

FridgeCut · 08/09/2017 21:15

If you have a local Wyevale or large garden centre they often do them too.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/09/2017 21:18

The NCT organise one round here.

How was your DS' birthday, Fridge?

FridgeCut · 08/09/2017 21:20

We went to soft play. I never do soft play, but it was bearable. Cake and party tomorrow. He got a cash register I bought for my son 2-3 years ago (probably off the bargain thread..) and put in the loft. He loves it and it was free today :) Thanks for asking, can't believe he has been here for two years! (he is a giant so no one realises how little he is, 50th centile for weight but 93rd for height!)

FridgeCut · 09/09/2017 00:02

106

NoWordForFluffy · 09/09/2017 08:13

My two argue over the cash register we have, so DH keeps it in the cupboard to prevent arguments!

My DD is really tall. DS is average for now, but I'm sure he will grow much taller in years to come.

SunSeptember · 09/09/2017 08:30

Constant I booked my first ever Albert hall carol's as well, was perusing some choices for afternoon tea after as well. I wonder if it's near winter wonderfully?

FridgeCut · 09/09/2017 12:19

Birthday cake made for ds2, his favourite thing is cake so he has a cake cake
