I'm having a cuppa out of one of my Christmas mugs, listening to Michael buble (if you have to ask which album then frankly you should be on the Christmas thread 😉) and baking ginger loaf... feeling suitably festive!

Trudee · 16/08/2017 20:48

As the weather is rather autumnal here today I've got myself snuggled on the sofa in my pj's with a hot choc and candles lit ready to watch a festive film...
...except dh has just walked in and announced that he has plans to draw and needs ALL the lights on Angry
That's the ambience and my mood ruined!

ScrappyMalloy · 16/08/2017 21:14

We have just got in from a day on our local beach, in the lovely sunshine, and I now have Delia's Happy Christmas book out because... (drum roll) ...I am making my cake tomorrow!

I am very excited 😆

ConstantlyCooking · 16/08/2017 22:59

into the one hundred and twenties Xmas Grin

Takes the opportunity to dive in while Sprout is bandaging her poorly finger.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/08/2017 01:06

Good Luck with A-Level results (I have a year before DS does his) nerve wracking day Brew

FireflyGirl · 17/08/2017 03:50

It's been muggy as anything here, and I was woken up by a cracking great thunderstorm! Should have known I wouldn't be the first on, though!

I found a lost box of florentines in the garage when I sorted it at the weekend. I only ever buy them from Aldi at Christmas, so that's cheered me up a bit. I've been rationing them over the week Grin

I need to write a DIY list, I reckon. Spruce up the walls a bit before I cover them in decorations! Grin HGP planning will be next week's goal - it's my DSis baby shower on Saturday, so I've got games to plan and sandwiches to make. I'm not really keen on baby showers possibly due to looking like a zeppelin at my own but she was told she'd never have children, so she's really excited.

NoWordForFluffy · 17/08/2017 05:16

Ah, that's fantastic for your sister, Firefly. I can forgive her the baby shower in those circumstances. Just! 👶 😁

Minster2012 · 17/08/2017 07:30

😁relaxing wedding anniversary weekend away booked for weekend before Xmas, usually we celebrate the weekend before but not this year! Meal at posh restaurant ✔️, lovely cottage ✔️ with DDOG1 & by that stage we will have DPuppy2! (Cottage has stone floors throughout but despareately hoping to have toilet trained by Xmas as we are hosting too!) wish us luck!

Bring on 🎄!

SideOrderofSprouts · 17/08/2017 08:32

I was asleep!

Babychips slept 14 hours. I need my beauty sleep Grin

TheWoollybacksWife · 17/08/2017 09:34

Any A level news yet Cooking? DD2 is happy enough. She's passed everything but had an unconditional offer anyway.

SideOrderofSprouts · 17/08/2017 09:50

aimga

Oooh Easter/town here. I live by all the private schools. Good luck at thefete today. Weather is awful for it

SideOrderofSprouts · 17/08/2017 09:50

Well done woolly dd!!

NoWordForFluffy · 17/08/2017 10:37

Well done to your DD, Woolly. Which uni is she off to?

AIMGA · 17/08/2017 10:57

Well done woollys DD!

Yes, the weather is crap sprouts but it's my DDs summer highlight - especially having watched them set up over the last two days!

AIMGA · 17/08/2017 10:58

I'm making mincemeat ready for mince pies tomorrow - very excited!

TheWoollybacksWife · 17/08/2017 10:59

Thank you everyone. She's really happy, she's had a rough couple of years.

It's DMU Fluffy.

HairsprayBabe · 17/08/2017 11:08

I just got a small bonus from work in the form of Amazon vouchers, it is a code on paper, should I keep it for Black Friday or will it run out?

I rarely use amazon, don't know what to get my self!

BiddyPop · 17/08/2017 11:26

Well done to Woolly's DD, I hope she really enjoys it. And you enjoy the prepping (and will you get to look forward to welcoming her "home" for Christmas, or will she stay at home while studying?!).

Good luck to Constantly's DD as well.

Congrats Hairspray, that sounds like a wonderfully useful bonus!! I have no advice on when to spend it - I just know I would end up going to my wishlist and blowing it on something utterly frivolous! (Probably like Harry Potter plates and room decorations for DD's next party - that kind of utterly frivolous).

Glad to hear it's not too bad Sprouts and that you got a good sleep - Baby Sprouts is repenting in the best possible way for you to recover! Xmas Grin

Minster you sound like you have it all in train there. I am jealous of Firefly enjoying Florentines in August!!

I found last year's notes for the HGP last night while organizing the camping gear, so I brought those to work to do over lunchbreak. DH is getting worried about how much "stuff" I am bringing for 2 nights (but that's 2 nights proper camping, as well as 2 nights in my DPs house including a family dinner, and bringing DD's 2 massive bags from her holidays which were for a week of surfing (so loads of wetsuits and gear) and 2 weeks of clothes - so it will fill the car but not overfill it). I just need to remember to get the gas ring and the mini bbq from the shed or we'll have nothing to cook on!

And DD is enjoying her time with her DGPs, she was in good form last night and had plenty of instructions on gear for me to bring for her (which was part of DH's worries!), but that included a nice outfit for the family dinner (which makes a change that she's thinking about that stuff too and willing to wear something reasonable and not just a tracksuit!).

NoWordForFluffy · 17/08/2017 11:30

Will she live at home, Woolly? Quite easy to get to from yours with the train station now reopened, I'd think?

Hairspray, I think you can add them to your account and spend them later on. I think!

TheWoollybacksWife · 17/08/2017 17:04

She'll be at home at least for her first year and travelling with DD1 who'll be back home and in the same city doing her PCGE.

Lucky you Hairspray. I love Amazon vouchers.

On the subject (sort of) of Amazon - does anyone know anything about a Kindle Fire? DS has mentioned that he might like one for Christmas. He's 10 (11 just after Christmas) and a right bookworm. I've got a first generation kindle but that is so unsophisticated and I haven't really kept up with the changes. I've had a quick look and at first glance they look great (might ask for an upgrade myself) but is there anything I should look out for/avoid.

Woolley I bought DP one as part of his christmas haul last year and it is more of a tablet than a reading device almost impossible to read outside with on a sunny day. If you want it for reading you are better off with the electronic ink ones that don't have the tablety features.

SideOrderofSprouts · 18/08/2017 08:40

Morning all! Payday woooo

Waiting for chipstheeldest to find her hoodie so we can go to get all their hair cut today
