Am I a wanker...

... to buy poundland tinsel and trimmings?

I've just ordered the first 24 (of maybe 100 I have planned) baubles and have got quite nicey ones.

Theme wise I'm going traditional coca cola advert red white and gold...

So ramblings aside, would I be a wanker to get as much tinsel (and possibly shiny glittery beads on a string) from poundland??

Should I invest more to make it perfect for DD?

Your Christmas, your choice, your style :) Red, white and gold is very festive

Thanks Chottie I usually have a fuck stuff 'em attitude; but I don't know, when it comes to christmas I worry I won't make it good enough for DD

Or buy this one

Bumpstarter · 24/09/2013 18:51

Only if your wank fantasies involve baubles, tinsel and pine needles.

Seriously, why use the word wanker in the thread title? How much you spend on Xmas makes you tight, skinflint, generous, or idiotic, not a wanker.

WorldPeace Who shit in your cereal?

I don't think kids care about where the tinsel comes from... They just love the sparkles!

TessTackle · 24/09/2013 18:54

Thanks Olibeans

She won't care how much it cost. In my experience, kids love a bit of cheap tat! Go for it.

Personally I think tinsel is the work of the devil Grin

tanya1312 · 24/09/2013 18:57

I get bits from various places including poundland , end of day it all looks pretty and Christmassy ,

WorldPeaceAndFreeProsecco · 24/09/2013 18:58

Sorry, I have had a shit day tbh.

Honestly though, even if you buy the overpriced shit they have in Next (for eg) at Christmas, it's all just the same shiny flimdy plastic. It really doesn't matter.

Don't put silly pressure on yourself to make it 'perfect' like this, it will be wonderful, really.

bebopanddoowop · 24/09/2013 18:59

I think your daughter will just be excited about all the sparkly Christmas decs and won't think about any value! It's easy to get caught up with trying to make everything 'perfect' and it's true you can get sentimental about some decs growing up, but it's usually handmade stars on the top you use every year etc, not tinsel and beads that just gets tangled up and you end up throwing away anyway!

TessTackle · 24/09/2013 18:59

Don't take it out on me in future, thanks.

x post with 2 others! Great minds Smile

TessTackle · 24/09/2013 19:00

Thank you bebop I was thinking poundland (or similar) for those tangleable bastards and then hopefully as she gets older she can buy an ornament yearly and end up taking them with her when she flies the nest.

You are a wanker for worrying and putting pressure on yourself

You are not a wanker for buying as much shiny shit as you can carry in poundland

I never did grow out of tinselly tat :) I own shedloads of arty, hand-crafted, seasonal decorations, but finally admitted to myself I like GLITZmas!

I guess that makes me two kinds of wanker Grin Merry Christmas.

it is against the rules on here to say anything about Christmas other than 'yes it is amazing but we must all spend loads'. Smile

it is all incredibly polluting, so second-hand decs are the way to go; try your charity shop. Keeping it for years is good. If you do need more, buy it in mid December when the sales start. (used to be after Christmas but the retail sector calendar grows ever more skewed)
