Bloody hell! I've missed this thread completely, I'm so looking forward to Christmas this year as last year ds2 (then 15 months) was so very poorly with a severe ear infection that we could hardly do anything at all, so fingers crossed for a healthy Christmas this year :-) plus its my mums first Christmas off work in 4 years so I will get to see my mum on Christmas Day - yippee! I'm planning it already.

LentilAsAnything · 11/04/2013 11:44

Hi, Shades. Sorry to hear about last Christmas. Hope it is a happy and healthy one this year.
What have you got planned so far?

Snazzynewyear · 11/04/2013 12:05

Sounds great 50Shades! I am also looking forward to this year. Not sure who will be there yet but I really want to get my house in order for it (have been saying this for years but it's going to happen this year...)

50ShadesofXmas · 11/04/2013 13:02

I would love mum to come and stay Christmas Eve, watch boys open their presents, go to mass, come back and have Christmas dinner (prepared by dh), all go for a long walk through the woods then home for snacks/drinks/crap tv watching - I'm so excited already!!

LentilAsAnything · 11/04/2013 17:45

Aw!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/04/2013 22:13

50 I'm all for planning but some things are out of your control (like family being ill)

My parents used to come down for Christmas but TBH they aren't into Christmas (both very involved in Church ) but my mum never did much at Christmas when we were children . (That's a whole other thread. She CBA putting up decorations and used to say "Oh I wish it was Boxing Day and all over" even though she didn't actually do any preparation Hmm )

My mum doesn't travel well now and my dad worries about being snowed in (unlikely). The first year they didn't come down I was sad but , one of those things.

I can only do Christmas in my house. I want my decorations. I want to spend 4 hours cooking Christmas Dinner - but only in my kitchen with my pots and knives; and my crockery and cutlery (Control Freak -maybe). I wouldn't let my DH make Christmas Dinner either, I'd be a real backseat driver.
And YY to crap TV. Corrie/Emmers/Enders and Dinner before Dr Who.

I plan, plan, plan menus and get everything bought. Then if someone is ill, I can still cope with it all. Wink

50ShadesofXmas · 12/04/2013 08:54

Oh I know, that's my ideal day, it will no doubt involve sick or mucas everywhere again lol. 257 days, time to start saving! :-)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/04/2013 00:17

Only 256 days now. Wink

My ideal Christmas will involve :

A Waitrose shop and a late-night M&S splurge.
Then a huuuuuge Sainsburys shop with my Nectar points and a trolley that won't knacker my knee (the wheels have a mind of their own)

SNOW

My boiler NOT throwing it's annual pre-Christmas strop

My nails being lovely enough to paint (unlikely)

Blush

I want Christmas now! :(

BiddyPop · 15/04/2013 10:52

Oh my word how is time going so FAST?!

Rabid, I hope all is well and soon mended for you.

I have not done anything this year yet (whereas last year I was at least crafting!). But I won't panic for a while yet. And I know that I won't be cooking the feast (only bits and pieces for parents and ILs) so that's another thing less to fuss about.

And while we won't have a tv, we will have our laptops and we bought a mobile broadband dongle recently with Christmas in mind for netflix. And there's a real wood stove in the house we've rented, so I will be curled up watching the sea heaving and all the ships moving in and out of the harbour from the sittingroom window there with a big glass of mulled wine and a mince pie on Christmas Eve!!

Bliss....
