50 I'm all for planning but some things are out of your control (like family being ill)
My parents used to come down for Christmas but TBH they aren't into Christmas (both very involved in Church ) but my mum never did much at Christmas when we were children . (That's a whole other thread. She CBA putting up decorations and used to say "Oh I wish it was Boxing Day and all over" even though she didn't actually do any preparation
)
My mum doesn't travel well now and my dad worries about being snowed in (unlikely). The first year they didn't come down I was sad but , one of those things.
I can only do Christmas in my house. I want my decorations. I want to spend 4 hours cooking Christmas Dinner - but only in my kitchen with my pots and knives; and my crockery and cutlery (Control Freak -maybe). I wouldn't let my DH make Christmas Dinner either, I'd be a real backseat driver.
And YY to crap TV. Corrie/Emmers/Enders and Dinner before Dr Who.
I plan, plan, plan menus and get everything bought. Then if someone is ill, I can still cope with it all.
