Debenhams are a bloody nightmare. I ordered some stuff in the last sales - I ordered 6 items of childrens clothing and a small pair of childrens socks. All the items except the socks were out of stock, but no-one told me. I waited 10 days and they charged me £3.95 delivery on a pair of socks which cost £1 in a sale.

Good ones are

ELC
Blacks
Feel Unique
Boots

floweryblue · 02/12/2011 20:56

I've never really had a problem with any on-line shopping, but I don't do a lot. I always return all my La Redoute marketing rubbish in with any returns parcels I have.

Our website is far from perfect and we do disappoint occassionally as we are working with our shop stock, so can have something available online which we actually sold within the last couple of days. Fortunately this doesn't happen often, and we do let the customer know of any problem ASAP.

We always use Royal Mail, usually Special Delivery, to deliver to our customers, I can't actually think of any problem we have had with them, we send out average 20 parcels every week, mostly high value.

Couriers/warehouse distribution services can be a nightmare, I worked in a warehouse for years, so I can sympathise with both sides!

ahhyesiseeyouvepooedonyourfoot · 02/12/2011 20:58

ms elliespoon your website is AMAZING! I'm currently searching my friends list to find someone pregnant who I can buy a baby bouquet for!!

TartyMcFarty · 02/12/2011 21:23

I find anyone who deals with Yodel/HDNL (Gap, Amazon) hit-and-miss.

TartyMcFarty · 02/12/2011 21:25

Debenhams: appalling. It says on the invoice that you can take returns to the store. You can't if they don't have the concession in your 'local' branch (as I discovered after a 40-mile round trip).

Oasis - crud.

Sorry, this is supposed to be good stuff - struggling, sorry!

redexpat · 02/12/2011 21:44

I love these sites for doing the legwork:
www.find-dvd.co.uk
www.find-cd.co.uk
www.find-book.co.uk

iloveblue · 02/12/2011 21:52

We've had so many problems with Yodel - most recent involved them leaving an Amazon parcel outside our house in the pouring rain.

Had issues with Toysrus packaging this year - they sellotaped all the items together and posted them in a thick postage bag, so all the boxes were squashed and then ripped when I separated them. They did give me a 10% refund when I complained but did put me off buying online from them again.

Good service from:
Drift living
ELC
Snapfish
Banana books

dementedma · 02/12/2011 21:53

worst for us so far has been M&M - wrong size sent, incorrect information from phone reps, ages to refund account
Pull & Bear - I had to chase a missing order. They did phone several times to apologise but better they got it right first time.
good for us:
Firebox - always reliable
Isle of Skye candles - beautiful candles, safely packaged, quick delivery
Hotel Chocolat - good communication, arrived well packaged
Fatface - ok, slow to refund incorrect orders though.

ThePsychicSatsuma · 02/12/2011 22:05

amazon always been amazing, have ordered tonnes of stuff

ThePsychicSatsuma · 02/12/2011 22:06

I do advise checking out tesco clothing if you never have, tonnes of v unusual designer stuff, mind-blowing and affordable - stuff on there not for the stores, high end internet stuff, and they do size 13 jeans

EverSoLagom · 02/12/2011 22:06

Anyone into cycling/running: www.wiggle.co.uk are brilliant. Speedy delivery, very knowledgable and quick to answer questions, and send little bags of haribo sweets out with every order!

spiderlight · 02/12/2011 22:07

Muddy Puddles Excellent waterproofs/outdoorsy stuff for kids, fast delivery and really good customer service.

Babi Pur Again, brilliant customer service. Ordered in an out-of-stock t-shirt for my son and then phoned me to say 'It looks a bit on the small side - how big is he for his age and shall we send you the next size up instead?'

slimyak · 02/12/2011 22:24

Lakeland, mulberry bush and prezzybox have all been good to me this Christmas. I have had one incorrect item from Lakeland and it took one quick phone call to sort it out.

jaquelinehyde · 02/12/2011 22:39

Oh God don't tell me this about Debenhams I am awaiting a really important parcel from them. I ordered 3 days ago, have had a conformation of order email and then yesterday a we are dealing with your order email.

No mention of dispatch or delivery yet and I was wondering about this today and now I'm really worrying!

kerstina · 02/12/2011 23:05

Amazon
Javari
HMV

mammanetta · 02/12/2011 23:06

Everso yes Wiggle I can second as have used them many times for cycle stuff - even got a wee festive bag of Haribo with my last order Grin
Muddy Puddles sounds great - must check out
jaquelinehyde have you tried calling their customer services to sort of pre-empt?

mammanetta · 02/12/2011 23:07

lots of great suggestions - and some I have never even heard of...I love MN :)

PastGrace · 02/12/2011 23:22

My website of choice in terms of delivery is absolute firebox as already mentioned.
I'm also a big, big fan of Look Fantastic for beauty stuff - sometimes great discounts, sometimes normal prices but free (international) delivery saves lots of money
Paperchase are always good.

I ordered a suitcase from Debenhams in the sale a while ago and it was in my flat within 36 hours, but maybe I just got incredibly lucky.

Top marks for now go to Sainsbury's though - I wanted needed some more plain baubles to pad out my tree so ordered some for the shop over the road using click and collect and nectar points so I could pretend they hadn't cost me anything. They arrived, I signed for them, I took them home, my tree looks fab. Three days later I get an email telling me that Sainsbury's are sorry but since I didn't collect my order it has been returned to the warehouse and refunded. Feeling honest, I emailed back telling them their mistake. They said the order system must have malfunctioned and as a thank you they would still refund the cost.

Iatemyskinnyperson · 02/12/2011 23:32

Etsy.com is very good. I've had excellent experiences, and the items have been fab. It's a storefront for handmade items- absolutely brill for small Christmas pressies.

cocoachanneloffestivecheer · 02/12/2011 23:55

Amazon
notonthehighstreet.com
John Lewis (although only seem to have their own delivery people, so no experience of Yodel)
Great Little Trading Co.

Avoid, avoid, avoid Mothercare. I paid, and waited in all day for a named delivery date. My item didn't arrive. I was promised the next day. Same thing. Day four it arrived. I was promised a gift voucher by way of recompense. They insisted it had to be posted which arose my suspicions. It never arrived...

cocoachanneloffestivecheer · 02/12/2011 23:57

Oh and for those who haven't already, check out kidstart.co.uk for money back for DCs

startail · 02/12/2011 23:58

So far a bunch I've never used before called surfdome.com one purple fatface gilet for DD2, ordered Monday evening, arrived this morning.
Next pjs for DD2 ordered 12.30 am on the 1/12 appeared while I was on the school run. Now that is quick.
Amazon (also Monday said today, no bloody sign of them)

yellowkiwi · 03/12/2011 00:12

John Lewis
Amazon
Boots
The Book Poeple
M&S
Agree with those who have had a bad experience of Debenhams.

startail · 03/12/2011 00:20

Also next in store and two snap fish orders very efficient.
Debenhams have been ok over the years, but not quick.
I fear my missing amazon order, reported as 13 miles down the road is with yodel.
I hope DHL haven't changed because DH gets a lot of stuff off them and they are very good here.
City link can be a nightmare sticking cards through without knocking and taking stuff back.
