Just thought if we all say what our dc's have asked for we can make a list for people who are struggling to know what to buy?

DD1 7 - Not sure what to get her yet but has asked for a fish tank and lego Ninja's.

DD2 5- wants Moshling zoo ds game and leappad.

itspeanutbutter I get really sentimental about their toys, it's pathetic. I got all upset because dh wanted to throw away a squeaky worm toy he bought ds when he was about four weeks old. It was his first toy and he loved playing with it. It probably cost about 5pence but I want to save it. And just about every other toy they have. I also feel bad giving away things we've been given. Feels so ungrateful iyswim. I know I've got to do it though...

WitchesAreComing · 27/10/2011 20:08

DS (4) only wants a bucketful of dinosaurs. Dinosaurs - no problem. Finding a blue bucket that is neither too big or too small - nightmare. I bought one from Amazon for six pounds and it's still the wrong sodding size.

DD (11) has recently broken a laptop out of sheer carelessness so will be getting a piece of coal.

oooggs · 27/10/2011 20:12

ds1 (8) star wars lego, star wars lego book & star wars lego wii game
dd (4.6) karaoke machine & cd
ds2 (4.6) lego city police station
ds3 (2.6) toy guitar

apart from the wii game I have got the rest either half price or in a sale

they will also get books, selection box, a dvd & 2 more little presents (like the baby annabel carrier/Nurse flood ambulance etc...)

ds1 has a december birthday and is getting a Bear Gryll top & book

davidtennantsmistress · 27/10/2011 22:08

lizzy - where was the ds?

takeonboard · 27/10/2011 22:14

DS is 10 and wants nothing but an ipad...not sure whether we will get it !

simpson · 27/10/2011 22:56

I want to know where the half price DS is too???

I have decided to take the leappad back as DS (6) wants to play games like chess/checkers etc so am going to get him a DS.

rhondajean · 27/10/2011 23:22

I definitely overdo it at Christmas and I know it. Im not sure why; when I was growing up we didnt celebrate Christmas at all and maybe its something to do with that.

DD1 has her birthday 2 days after too so I buy loads then work out whats for what.

Im not going to put the list of what they have got because it would go on forever, but I do things like they always get new pjs, housecoats and slippers, which thye would need anyway, but I get to wrap them and they get to open them :-)

Am on lookout for cheapest price for 3DS too if anyone sees a good offer thanks.

TaperJeanGirl · 28/10/2011 00:01

Dd1 (6) wants a phone, and a puppy, she is getting neither Grin she is getting a tablet though, and lalaloopsy/barbie/monster high dolls, transformers, ds games and some blue rays and playmobil

Dd2 (4) wants a puppy, she also wont be getting one! she is getting a tablet, and pretty much the same as dd1

Ds (2) wants a digger and a motorbike, he is getting a gorgeous kiddimoto balance 'motorbike' and lots of diggers/hotwheels, a doll, wooden kitchen and some trains.

Dd3 (5 months) has a baby doll and a lovely wooden pram to err, look at Grin and various light up/singing plastic stuff

I am sure as it gets nearer to christmas I will pick up other bits that they havent asked for, just as and when I see them.

Lizzylou · 28/10/2011 07:19

davidtennantsmistress , Ebay. I have checked feedback etc and it does seem a very good deal, loads of games as well.

tummytickler · 28/10/2011 07:45

witchesarecoming I remember the Christmas when I got a sack of coal. Apparently I had been foul the couple of weeks before Christmas, and Mum and Dad were fed up, so I had a asack of coal at the bottom of my bed!
My cousin tried it on her ds, and he was excited about getting to build a bonfire with it Grin so it didn't work for her!

groovejet · 28/10/2011 08:45

dd1 7 - has asked for a guitar, making stuff, something scooby doo and a frozen drinks maker. She did want a FurReal Cookie dog but after seeing a demo not working has agreed with me that it is expensive tat :o She likes the look of a Kinnect but said it is too much money so knows she won't be able to have that - that is going to be her shared xmas present this year so should be a good surprise.

dd2 4 - would like scooby doo things and a my little pony singing pony.

Marne · 28/10/2011 08:49

I have already bought too much for dd2 and hardly anything for dd1, have got a bit carried away with sylvanian families and might have to put a set back for her birthday, i bought the farm house when on offer, yesterday sainsburys had the nursery windmill on offer (so i had to buy it) and then argos had the big hotel half price (so reserved one to pick up today), have managed to pick up bits to furnish them with on e-bay but have spent way too much, dd2 has a huge list (also wants lalaloopsy), i now have to decide what to put back for her birthday (maybe the windmill?). There seems to be so many good offers around and i get a bit carried away Blush.

When i was a child we would get one good thing (for £30 ish) and then a few small things (like a colouring book, pens, pjs, slippers and a selection box), we didn't have stockings but we used to get a lot from other family (which my dd's dont).

I've just found this thread and am absolutely amazed how many presents some of your children get Shock?

Despite us being in a comfortable financial position, we never give our kids more than one or two presents at Christmas or Birthdays. We feel that that way they learn to value and appreciate their presents (and play with them/use them!). I also belive in quality over quantity - having less means they use their imagination more when they play.

We rather spend money on family trips to concerts, museums, restaurants and other worthwhile and fun experiences - I think kids benefit more from these than from having lots of 'things'.
