Just thought if we all say what our dc's have asked for we can make a list for people who are struggling to know what to buy?

DD1 7 - Not sure what to get her yet but has asked for a fish tank and lego Ninja's.

DD2 5- wants Moshling zoo ds game and leappad.

DD is 4 and has asked for roller skates, a lalaloopsy doll and a lunch box.

olibeansmummy · 26/10/2011 20:18

MonsterCherry: could you please tell me what the phone your ds is getting is called? That sounds good for ss.

sunnyday123 · 26/10/2011 20:30

for each DD i aim for 20 presents each and thought i was buying too little but now wonder if i get too much! To those who've posted, are these total number of presents you get from father christmas (excluding family) or are you naming just a few? - i was buying 20 thinking most others bought more? DDs are 6 and 4 and i usually do the following:

Main present - between £50-100 depending on what it is.
4 or 5 sets costing £20 each - barbie, polly pocket etc
4/5 things costing £10- slippers, books, dolls etc
Stocking fillers - typically £5 - arts crafts etc

Lots of people i know spend more compared to me - what's the average?????

olibeansmummy · 26/10/2011 20:34

Ds has 11 presents from us/ Santa plus stocking fillers, so if you're counting stocking fillers then yeah we get about the same :)

Marne · 26/10/2011 20:42

I do the same as you sunny, i aim for around 20 presents, sometimes i get a few more if i see things on offer, will spend around £50-£100 on main present and then matbe £50-£100 on smaller things (but some things will be things they need like slippers, pj's, socks ect), i have bought a few smaller things for the dd's (mainly moshi monster things for around £5- £10 each) and have also bought dd2 a duvet cover (moshi monsters) which is something i would have had to buy for her anyay.

I'm trying not to go OTT this year as both of the dd's are not too bothered about opening presents, they would be happier with 10 things they really wanted rather than 50 things that will just clutter up the house Grin. We don't really have much family that buy for them so other than what we buy they dont really get much else.

Dd1 cant decide if she wants a fish tank (and buy fish with money from her grandad) or Lego, so might have to try and do a bit of both (maybe a 2nd hand fish tank and a small amount of lego).

my dds do get lots from family too - each grandparents spends over £100! We have asked them not to as father xmas should buy the big ones - so now they just buy loads of smaller ones! NIghtmare though as we have to make sure our present is the biggest as it comes from santa and not family! I imagine they'll reduce as they get older and gifts are more expensive

WhatWouldLeoDo · 26/10/2011 20:48

I think it really varies sunnyday - some people buy lots, some very little and a whole range of in-between! I'm of the 'big pile of presents' persuasion myself but I try and counter that by being quite strict about not buying toys the rest of the year (birthday aside).

AngryFeet · 26/10/2011 20:52

Used to spend a max of £75 per child. Last year that went up to £100 and this year it is £190 which is very expensive for us and won't be going up again for a long time if ever! I wouldn't get 20 presents as at my dc's ages they would just end up concentrating on a couple and the rest would get forgotten! When they are teens it will be different though.

sunnyday123 · 26/10/2011 20:54

yes im the same - i but 4-5 thing for birthday and lots at xmas but rarely every inbetween

curlycat · 26/10/2011 20:54

olibeansmummy my dd (11) has the samsung chat which looks like the blackberry and she loves that and orange do a reasonably priced one as well - i think its called jive

tummytickler · 26/10/2011 20:58

sunnyday I have just listed the one thing they want the most. I guess mine end up with 20 from us (but included in this are small thing like books, new pens and stuff) plus maybe 8 - 10 from others. They also have a stocking.
Father Chriistmas ONLY does stocking in this house. I am not having him get the credit for the good stuff Grin
We are trying to cut back this year though, so I have made them think it will only be one thing each, but will aim to keep it to 10 or so.
Ds turns 9 on the 21st December, so I need to do that too (presents are done, so just birthday activity to pay for)

olibeansmummy · 26/10/2011 21:02

Thanks curly cat :) that looks good and a reasonable price. Don't want to spend too much as he's also only 11 and a young 11 so may break/ lose it, but want it to be 'cool' enough for high school lol

familyfun · 26/10/2011 21:02

dd1 (4) has asked for lego and charlie and lola dvd.

dd2(1) needs a snowsuit, sleepbag and dd1 wants to buy her a noisy book.

Ungratefulchild · 26/10/2011 21:05

18 & 6 and neither have asked for anything yet.

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 26/10/2011 21:10

DD 3.9 has asked for a Peppa Pig house, a Hello Kitty toy (big squashy soft toy I think), lipstick Hmm, pink nails Hmm and a sparkly flower ring.

The anti-pink drive is obviously working well :o

OnlyWantsOne · 26/10/2011 21:18

Goodness, in slightly Confused and shocked about how much you all buy!!!

Plus, how much your kids ask for?

Dd1 (5) hasn't asked for any thing. She only asked if I though she had been good enough for Fc To come (Blush)

For her birthday last week she asked for 1 thing!!!

Wow.

MrsJohnDeere · 26/10/2011 21:19

Ds1 (5) wants a puppy
Ds (3) wants a big cake

Both requests will be ignored

sunnyday123 · 26/10/2011 21:23

tbh my kids dont really ask for more than 2-3 things - i suppose i've been actively searching for things i know they'd like. My parents always gave me a bin-bag sized sack of toys as a kid (always cheap stuff!) and i loved it so just used to buying lots - also my dds play for hours with the stuff so its never like they get stuff and its left on the shelf! I have a pretty good idea now what they both go for so its easy to choose the right stuff for them

Bellavita · 26/10/2011 21:24

OnlyWantsOne, you may find that as they get older their presents get less but more expensive.

My Ds's only get presents from us, my parents and my DB.

They generally do not get much throughout the year. DS1 had £100 spent on his birthday in June and DS2 will get the same next month.

wheredidiputit · 26/10/2011 21:30

DD1 (nearly 8) would like Sylvanian Family

DD2 (4yrs) wants everything

DS (2.6) wants snow or his birthday [hgrin].
