Can someone advise please? Asked uc to see if we eligible for carers and send to dm. Had letter saying special circumstances apply and be adjusted. But uc says we not eligible as have lcwra and earn more than 139 pm. Where do I stand on this? Cheers x

If you mean carers element part of UC I was told I can’t claim it if you get LCWRA part of UC what are the special circumstances to allow you eligibility
thanks

Just wondering if anybody at all can help. I have to be honest, I don't understand benefits one bit! My youngest son is already on dla (only in the past week) I'm awaiting my oldest decision still.
I'm seeing so many people talking about UC and carers and disability elements etc etc.... what on earth is all this about? Can somebody explain to me like I've been living under a rock for 10 years what the benefiting hell it all means please 😬🤷🏻‍♀️ thank you 😂 x

Try an online benefits calculator like turn2us, moneyhelper or entitledto. You input all your details and it’ll estimate whether it thinks you’re entitled to any benefits. If it says you are then you can apply here https://www.gov.uk/universal-credit/how-to-claim

UC is made up of your basic allowance, then there is an extra amount if you have kids, and if you have children in receipt of DLA and you care for them then there are extra amounts they will give you like carer element, disabled child element. If you earn under £139/week then you can apply for a separate amount, not via UC, of £76.75 a week if you provide care of 35+ hours a week to one person. This is not extra on top of universal credit because if you’re in receipt of it then they’ll count it as earnings and deduct some of your universal credit.

Universal Credit

Universal Credit is replacing 6 other benefits with a single monthly payment if you're out of work or on a low income - eligibility, how to prepare.

Have you called recently?

Shaf89 · 16/02/2024 10:25

It all feels so positive when we see them moving through dates quickly then it suddenly goes quiet again! Wish the momentum just continued!!

I called Monday spoke to a lovely gentleman who said it’s with a dm/cm or someone and then I called Wednesday and got a moody lady who basically told me to stop calling ! And nothing since I just feel very deflated

SarahJL12 · 16/02/2024 10:34

@Shaf89 there have been quite a few awards the last few days but they are writing in the newest thread - wait time part 30. The link is on here a few pages back but I don't know how to send it on here x

Basically u can't get both elements it's either limited capability for work or carers element . But if you get the limited capability where u don't get anything u should get the carers element instead.

Bsmumummaj · 16/02/2024 10:50

@Tammy198311 thank you, I received this after it went to the dm. I asked uc about it and they said no 🙄 just trying to make sense of the letter. I have lcwra and partner works

@Bsmumummaj I'm not sure which bits you are talking about but I know the rules about these things so will explain.

If you have a joint UC claim one and you get LCWRA (with the monthly extra money) then you cannot also claim carers element. You get whichever is higher which is LWCRA. However, your partner can claim the carers element of UC instead, however they would need to be marked on your account as the primary carer for that child. They can do this if they work full time still.

However carer's allowance (the different benefit not through UC) - your partner will not be able to claim if they work full time, as they would be over the earnings threshold. I believe you can even if LCWRA, however it is taken £1 for £1 off your UC allowance so there isn't any financial benefit. The only benefit of doing this could be if you need the National Insurance contributions.
