Hi I wondered if anyone has had Carers Allowance backdated for more than 3 months?? I've had a payment in my bank today which looks like 8 months of CA (back to when my son was awarded)
I'm not sure if this is an error ?

Gracie1909 · 15/02/2024 08:47

@Geegee1506 did they update your journal? Will it be carers plus the disabled element? X

No it's not an error it's because u were waiting on descision so they would backdate more than 3 months

@Tammy198311 oh when I read online it just said that Carers Allowance can only be backdated 3 months 🙈 Do you know if UC will now say I've been overpaid by them because I've had 'earnings' from carers allowance? Xx

Geegee1506 · 15/02/2024 08:56

@Jonesy0102 oh yes.. maybe they've backdated it to the start of his claim then.. thank u xx

Now just to see if UC say I've been overpaid 😩

Yes they can do as basically u would have been paid double . But u can pay it back in instalments .

you don’t need to claim carers allowance to get the UC element of it. I won’t be claiming CA, because they’ll just deduct that money from my UC carers element and pay it to me. I don’t see the point of carers allowance, because either way, you’re being paid.

Carers allowance is worth applying for if any of us don't work due to the nature of our children's additional needs. Once the youngest child in the household reaches 3, we need to either be working or looking for work for 30 hours a week, having the carers allowance prevents the need to work and/or look for work as being the registered carer becomes our job, if that makes sense xx

Officially sent 2 MRS in today fingers crossed but not feeling hopeful still trying gather evidance to send in next week

Carers allowance pays your national insurance stamps for you which contributes towards you qualifying for your state pension but apparently UC does too but they’re a different class of NI contributions (class 1 vs class 3) which I don’t understand!

Lisa3kids · 15/02/2024 12:34

Just spoke to a manfrom CAB to help with my sons MR he thinks the decision was wrong and going to do the appeal letter for me fingers crossed this time it will go my sons way here’s to another long wait good luck all

tiredmum1989 · 15/02/2024 13:38

I reported late change of circumstance to UC on 18/1 (disabled child element and carer element) and got the carer backpay approved within a day but no actual money, and still waiting on the disabled child element to be approved by decision maker 4 weeks later! Keep getting told there’s no time frame.
Messaged today and the backpay for carer element is being paid to me on Monday! Still waiting for disabled child element but at least I’ve got half of what I’m owed.

Coc Was accepted yesterday scan date 18/10

wasnt the rate I expected but I’m going to re apply nearer my child’s 3rd birthday at the end of the year as I’ll need to claim for mobility then too

does anyone know how long carers allowance approvals are taking and do they want pay slips or do they talk to uc who are aware of my earnings from work?

good luck all
