Hi had anyone had back pay declined for the carers element of universal credit, I have been refused because I didn’t report it before I was awarded DLA

pessaryforthepressurey · 08/02/2024 16:53

They're being really funny about doing mine- claiming it's a "late change". It's not a late change, it's DWP being really really slow!

One for MR/appeal, I think.

I’ve no idea why they’ve said that, I reported disabled child element and carers element on 18/1, they got back to me within 24 hours asking why it was late and sent it to a decision maker. Letter came through on 19/1 accepting our late claim for carers element but heard nothing back about the disabled child element and no back pay for either element yet, but carers was added into my latest statement and I had the money for that one month. I’ve asked 2 or 3 times and just keep getting told there’s no set time frame. So frustrating.
I reported carers once we were awarded DLA, same as you, so I think that’s wrong. Go back and argue it.

Luevzamum · 09/02/2024 09:16

@Ilovemychildren123 @Jneill2021 congratulations, so happy for you both x

Jneill2021 · 09/02/2024 09:28

Ilovemychildren123 · 09/02/2024 10:20

@Luevzamum thank you.
@Jneill2021 congratulations to you I can’t see your post on what you were awarded but happy the overturned at MR x

Ajm1325 · 09/02/2024 14:17

@Ajm1325 I have now started the same battle! Informed them on the 5th Feb that my daughter is now getting MRC LRM had to chase on Monday, had a call today to say it has been "Verified" but thats all! They wont advise if being back paid, literally no information provided at all and the call handler was yawning at me !! urgh this never stops... xx

Justkeepsplashing · 14/02/2024 16:59

Hello all,

I’ve only just found this thread through Googling ‘DLA Waiting Times’. I’m very new to this, my daughter is on the waiting list for an Autism assessment and we’ve been told it’ll take three years due to a lack of resources and funding in our area. I was advised by school to apply for DLA and submitted the form in December. I haven’t heard anything yet - not even to confirm receipt of the application - is this normal?

I have briefly looked here, I can see you’re all waiting months. when do you think I’ll get the first communication from them? I’m expecting a refusal so it would probably take a year for a decision! I’m a single parent and work full time with no family support so it’ll be a big help towards living costs.

Also, what does ‘Scan Date’ mean please?

and I really hope all of your applications are successful, it’s not a lottery win but I know it’ll help during what is a really difficult time.

@Justkeepsplashing scan date is the day they scan your forms onto their system. Usually you get a letter within a couple of weeks of them receiving the forms would say if you haven’t had any confirmation within 3 weeks give them a call just to confirm they have received them. Seen a lot of posts of peoples forms being lost so is always worth checking. Usually best to ring at 9 when the phone lines first open as you aren’t on hold for hours if you ring then. Above is link for latest thread we are all on. Good Luck hun xx

Hi I wondered if anyone has had Carers Allowance backdated for more than 3 months?? I've had a payment in my bank today which looks like 8 months of CA (back to when my son was awarded)
I'm not sure if this is an error ?

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I called them, they’ve received it in December and will process it around April. I expect a refusal so it’ll be a while again

Applied for dla for autistic son (9 yo), recurved letter saying they received a claim on 2nd Jan. Hopefully the wait isn't long.
I work part time and receive UC. The job centre are not understanding my circumstances and keep calling me in for fortnightly appts, I'm either working or doing house duties as I'm a single mum.. I get really stressed for these appointments as the staff there grill me and I don't have any new updates to give them. Will telling them I have applied for dla make any difference thanks xx

Hi just to let you know there’s not many people still following this thread now as we’ve moved over to https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/childcare/5008000-dla-wait-times-part-30?latest=1

The current wait is about 18-20 weeks but at least you’re already about 6 weeks into that. I would say if you let them know you’ve applied for DLA for your child they may reduce your work related commitments temporarily, it’s certainly worth asking.

Anyone checking their bank every 5 mins. I've never known anxiety like it. I've probably still got a long wait ahead as I'm only 14 weeks on Wednesday but I'm still hopeful dla will get through the claims faster for us

Hi love hope you don’t mind me messaging you was hoping you could help
me on what I put to UC is this the careers element or careers allowance ?

So the carers element and disabled child premium is through universal credit. Carers allowance is a totally different thing but that is deducted from your uc. Carers element and disabled child premium is not deducted. Its handy having the carers allowance though as you won't need to be available to work or look for work as being the carer for your child is your job. Hope this helps x

Scan date 23/01
2 letters
1 text 08/05

Called yesterday 07/05 for an update to be told with a DM and that I would receive a text message or a letter with a decision either this week or by the end of next week. Good luck everyone 🤞🏼

Sunshineclouds11 · 13/05/2024 10:50

Hey,

I sent my renewal off, letter received stating which rates but I didn't sign it 🙈 so had to send back.
Received another letter today advising they are looking into the claim.

So I'm confused as they originally accepted and gave new rates but now looking into it?

First time doing a renewal, is this an automated letter?

Emz112 · 26/05/2024 22:31

Scan date 11.03
Long wait ahead

Will36 · 20/01/2025 10:15

Scan Date, 6th September 2024

Diagnosed with ASD, SPD. Very extensive set of reports sent in (50+ additional pages)

Called up this morning, ETA is end of February.

Mrssnee16 · 21/01/2025 10:02

Has anyone successfully had the mobility rate added on the care rate existing claim? If so, did they re look at the care claim? Was it affected? My son gets high care rate but has now been diagnosed with autism and additional learning needs. I know that the autism diagnosis now shows the arrested development of the brain which is looked at when it comes to mobility. Just a bit of advice please x
