Hi just jumping in here I don’t currently qualify for universal credit atall but I’m waiting for my dla to be awarded 🤞 if all goes well I believe I would the. Qualify for uc do u know by any chance if I have to wait for the dla to be awarded untill I start the process of claiming uc ?? xx

You have to be entitled to uc to then add carers element and disabled child element, you could apply for carers allowance if you get mrc or hrc xxx

Sskanf · 16/11/2023 16:23

@Jude82 so I do get it now initially they never gave it initially ive only started receiving it since the past few months

Mummyof1B1G · 16/11/2023 16:33

It really depends on a lot of things tbh!

Anyone can sign up to UC, so you can go through the process and sign up whenever you’d like too. If you have a mortgage then you won’t have any housing costs paid. If you’re a single parent or in a couple then you’ll get an element for that and you’ll get an element for up to two children (unless they were all born before 2017).

If you’re not eligible to receive UC at the moment because you’re earnings may wipe out your entitlement, then you can have a valid UC claim for 6 months and receive a nil award. You could sign up now and even if you don’t receive a UC payment each month, if your child is awarded DLA, you can at least ask for the relevant elements (carer element and disabled child element) to be backpaid as you had a current UC claim at the time.

You can also wait until your child gets awarded and then sign up to UC but you won’t get any backpay as you didn’t have a current UC claim. They will just add the elements on from when you first sign up. All elements are able to be deducted so due to your earnings, you may receive a nil award with the elements added onto your claim anyway.

Let me know if that makes sense as it sounds quite confusing!

Mummyof1B1G · 16/11/2023 17:00

That absolutly makes sense and is so super helpful Thankyou so much!!! Going to look into this more now Thankyou 🙏🙏 xxx

HomeEdmumof7 · 16/11/2023 17:19

Hi I've just stumbled upon this group prob like alot of others do after reaching week 15 and googling wait times 🤣 I think my scan date was 2/8
And last text 31/10
I was starting to drive myself insane thinking I would hear bang on 15 weeks after seeing all the posts I realise that isn't going to happen 🙈
My sister got dla few months ago and her wait time she got told was 12 wks and she got a decision at 12 wks.
Would I have heard by now if they needed extra info?

Muva25 · 16/11/2023 17:24

@Tmxx 🥳 congrats hun pleased for you x

Loui5 · 16/11/2023 17:25

Scan date 14/7 the wait is finally over Hrc Lrm awarded till 2025. I in a state of shock thought it would be declined. Congratulations to everyone with awards today and i wish everyone waiting the best of luck. These posts have helped me so much so thankyou ❤️

AgaLaura2Olivia · 16/11/2023 17:32

Hi. Scan date 18/07. Still waiting.
Anyone can answer my question please: this is my 4th child no child element for her , born 2018 if I get DLA will she get anything from UC?
Thanxxx and good luck everyone

Jaysworld · 16/11/2023 17:32

I’m still waiting for a decision, scan date 5/7, I keep getting cut off after being on hold for ages and don’t have the time to keep calling back 😭 anybody else still waiting with a date from that week and last text 2/10? It was with a case manager on Monday, I have a feeling it will be a decline x

Mummyof1B1G · 16/11/2023 17:34

Thankyou 🫶 im going to ring tomorrow for the first time my scan date is 21/07 and last text 9/10 but just got some more info for my son to give them today so going to call and see if they will update ect x

MammyAng84 · 16/11/2023 17:40

Was on hold for 94 mins & it cut off at 5.30 😭😭😭

Sskanf · 16/11/2023 17:41

@Loui5 aww that's wonderful congratulations

Krys83 · 16/11/2023 17:45

I tried to call at 4:00, the call wouldn't even go through rang a few times then cut off 🙈.

Loui5 · 16/11/2023 17:49

Thankyou x😊

Jaysworld · 16/11/2023 18:03

That’s what happens to me too, it either goes through all the options and then cuts off before going to the hold tune or I’m on hold for an 1hr+ and it cuts of, it’s put me off ringing!

Asdmummyhere · 16/11/2023 18:03

@AgaLaura2Olivia yes u will hun, you'll get the disability element and potentially the carers element if awarded mrc or hrc xx

AgaLaura2Olivia · 16/11/2023 18:09

Thanks ❤️
