Hi all
Been following the various DLA threads for a few weeks but never posted before. I hope this is ok. Am looking for some advice and think some of you might be in the know.
Applied for DC DLA in April this year. Application was a bit delayed as DC's treatment changed after an additional diagnosis in December and needed an updated statement from paediatrician. We were advised by CNS, Great Ormond Street specialist team and HV that we'd likely get full awarded due to severity DC's condition.
Received the acknowledgment letter then several 'don't call us, we'll call you texts' in April/May.
DC died in July - unexpected but related to their disability. A week after DC passed we got a letter from DWP saying 'sorry DC has died but you can continue application if you send death certificate for backdated payment to date of death'.
Both DH and I are self-employed and took a huge financial hit over the last year due to continuous hospital stays etc. So we decided to continue and see what happened.
DWP sent back death certificate end of July and since then ... nothing.
TBH I'm prepared to just let the whole thing go, I feel utterly broken by the whole situation and just want to move on but DH thinks it's worth pursuing. I called once in September but was cut off and couldn't face it again.
Do you think there is any point in chasing? Or the fact we've had no communication is a sign it's been rejected? I can't find any precedent for this and don't know what to do.
TIA for any advice.
