We went out on wednesday night and our nanny babysat as usual. When we got home she mentioned that our middle child had played up a bit and called K upstairs 4 times but there was nothing wrong so in the end K just left her to cry and after 10 mins she was asleep.
Well of course middle DD spent the entire night and next day throwing up and generally being unwell.
I know the nanny couldn't have known she was ill but do you think it's out of order she just let her cry ? She knows we dn't do controlled crying with the baby.
TIA

I assumed there were 2, a baby and a 4 year old. I wouldn't call a 4 year a baby.

ok I've got to ask because I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to ask. You don't work, but have a nanny, how much hands on childcare do you actually do? Because your take on this just seems to be odd. Why didn't your 4 year old tell the nanny what was wrong? What would you have done instead with a 4 year old? They're hardly rocked to sleep at 4! The nanny went upstairs 4 times, she was hardly sat on the sofa ringing the boyfriend.

Does anyone really give atoss about this?
I feel sorry for nanny, and wonder if she will tell the truth in future after this load of codswallop. Imo You think that if you pay enough people[nannies, school, tutors etc]you don't have to put any effort in with your kids and it's everyone elses problem but yours.
Get a Life.

Let me get this right - your question was "do you think it's out of order she just let her cry?"

The majority (though not all) of the replies said they thought it wasn't out of order and that the babysitter had acted reasonably. You then resorted to name calling "who the hell do you think you are", "you're quite clearly a prat end of story", and the whole thing seems to have deteriorated from there.

Just summarising, as I am this weeks threadkiller so will probably act like the kiss of death to this pointless discussion.

Thank you "wish i could give up work"

dont worry though.... i think i and all my (very respectable) employers know what type of nanny i am.... why else would i have 9 families fighting over me as i change job in september?... (while i know many nannies who are finding it VERY difficult to find ANY work at all)

I also can see i have the majority opinion.... that a child crying is NOT the end of the world... they are children they cry etc etc

I agree HD should look after her kids herself..... then they can be happy 24/7 and NEVER EVER cry

A nannies job is to wipe arses

lets just say that is NOT my job... and any person who even THINKS thats what a nannies job is is NOT the type of person most nannies would be happy working for

we are professionals.... i have a DEGREE BSc honours and earn more money than most of my graduate friends....

Im not going to go into what our job is..... but most if not all (except yourself, so it seems) good bosses who employ nannies know exactly what a good nanny does and if you asked 100 i bet not even 1 would answer "my nanny wipes arses!"

PMSL - two nights a week for a break I am lucky to manage 2 night a year (although I also use a qualified nanny - does that make me a better person?)

This is one of those road-crash threads isn't it?

I think HelloDolly has the very worst attitude of anyone I've ever seen on MN

What an obnoxious snob.

HC, perhaps if you spent some time with your children you wouldn't have such a precious head in clouds attitude to how they should be brought up.

Heavens, you're rude. And that's me saying that!

PMSL laughing at least Nannies get paid to wipe arses while mums do it for free.

Must be great to be able to blame kid being ill on the hired help.

Gosh she only went up 4 times and then left her for a whole 10 mins .

Parents, including MOTHERS, are often in angst because they thought a child was playing up, acted accordingly, and then found the child was coming down with something.

Every single one of us has done it.

haven't we?
