We went out on wednesday night and our nanny babysat as usual. When we got home she mentioned that our middle child had played up a bit and called K upstairs 4 times but there was nothing wrong so in the end K just left her to cry and after 10 mins she was asleep.
Well of course middle DD spent the entire night and next day throwing up and generally being unwell.
I know the nanny couldn't have known she was ill but do you think it's out of order she just let her cry ? She knows we dn't do controlled crying with the baby.
TIA

HD doesn't actually make it clear whether the poor girl in question is her full time nanny or a babysitter who happens to be a qualified nanny...

As for large families not being hard work ROFLMAO!

looneytune · 03/07/2006 11:13

PMSL at that post on other thread!!! Wish I didn't have to go and pick the kids up from school. Oh well, will be catching up with this later!!

jellyjelly · 03/07/2006 11:17

Of course they arent hard work if you pass them over.

I dont think i have a problem in people having nannies if thats what they choose, after all i am a childminder and earn my money from working parents. but i do have a problem with the attitude HD has towards her nanny, as i have said on an earlier post its almost a servant/master attitude
I have worked with children for 16 years as a nanny, mothers help, pre school worker, nursery nurse, deputy manager of a nursery, and now a mum and childminder. I think that to describe my profession as nothing more than wiping bums is an insult.
I tried to be helpful and polite at the very beginning of this thread (was the first to post after op) but how can you help when there is an attitude like that?

WishICouldGiveUpWork · 03/07/2006 22:30

No sign of her coming back here to defend the indefensible then....

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/07/2006 22:46

I think she needs a good slap. But this thread...as they say in Baaaarkshoire where I grew up, Oi larfed Oi did, Oi larfed till Oi nearly peed oi drawers. And when Oi peed oi drawers oi legs went rusty...

Norland nanny, 4 kids and not working, my arse. Now, dahling, if it had been a slattern from Slovenia, one could understand, but a Norland nanny, ho no.

WishICouldGiveUpWork · 03/07/2006 22:53

I'm with you "Mrs Rusty Legs"

pinkandsparkly · 04/07/2006 18:39

Well just think, if there were no slaves one could employ to 'wipe arses' then one would have to look after one's kids one's bloody self

And that would never do.

Well I havn't read the whole thread but wanted to add my opinion.

I think this was perfectly reasonable. As others have said this WAS NOT Controlled crying and if DD is 4 then she is certinaly capable of playing up!

4x of checking and then letting them cry/whine for up to 15 minutes before falling asleep is what I would expect to do. I'd only be upset If I felt that the babysitter had fibbed and there was no checking before letting DD cry, or that it was actulaly longer than 10 mins! But then if you don't trust your babysitter why on earth are they with your children?

I loved the reference to Mary Poppins btw, can you really imagine Mary Poppins (a fairly traditional and strict nanny) to allow children to play up at bedtime?

I agree with Ulwila

not for the first time
