Come and take my mind off it!

Suggest something indulgent we can do to distract ourselves.

I'm just overdue (40+2) and going to see midwife later. Do they have a look to see how 'favourable' it is down there? Or, leave it till 41 weeks?

Tonight is a full moon so it may kick start something for us all xx

MoggMum · 27/05/2010 11:57

homebirthmummy I'm hoping for the same re Half Term as we'll have teenagers around too. How do yours feel re having a new baby in the house?

homebirthmummy4 · 27/05/2010 12:27

moggmum they are excited, but a little disgusted at the thought breastfeeding, even though they were all breastfed for between 11months and 2 1/2 years and know the advantages. the eldest is in yr10 and about to sit some gcse modules and is so wrapped up in them that i sometimes think she has forgotten i am about to have a baby (it is sooo inconvenient when i havent made dinner to fit in with revision schedule etc etc), other than that i get texts and calls throughout the day..have you had it yet type of thing...they say its their teachers/friends all excited..hmm. how old are yours?

MoggMum · 27/05/2010 14:46

Not mine exactly (DH's from previous marriage) but girl 13 & boy 17. I was a bit worried when we first told them about the baby but they seem quite excited now. Like yours, the oldest is mid exams so half term will be spent revising.

Let's hope they'll help out when our LO's finally arrive - or is that just wishfull thinking?

mitfordsisters · 27/05/2010 15:09

Agree MoggMum, if cervix is unfavourable, avoid induction - why put yourself through it? Hang on in there - some of us just need to cook them a bit longer.

Lollypop - I have high hopes of the full moon. Working up the enthusiasm for nipple stim and may ask dh to oblige in the bedroom tonight - due date is today.

homebirthmummy4 · 27/05/2010 15:29

nah moggmum, i am sure we will pushed over in the rush for the teens to get to the baby lol.

homebirthmummy4 · 27/05/2010 15:38

have to say though, just got back from mw appointment. she is so lovely and encouraged me to just hang in there as she knows thats what i really want, rather than the sweep,so came back feeling disappointed in myself for chickening out of changing my mind, but so positive that my midwife definately will respect my wishes. baby is thankfully still fully engaged, heartrate 136-149bpm so no problems there and she has reassured me that i WILL get my homebirth so long as all stays medically well, lateness in itself will not be a reason for stopping that plan.thinking of a long walk along the prom tonight, hopefully it will be a high tide as well as a full moon lol i didnt know it was a druid thing! although my exmum in law, (lovely lovely lady, dont know her son ended up as he did) used to try a spot of moonbathing

MoggMum · 27/05/2010 16:05

That's good news homebirthmummy re mw app. How many days overdue are you now? Prom walk sounds good too - we live near sea so might do the same!

I'm still waiting for my mw to contact me to discuss my options. She knows I really want to labour naturally but as baby's head is still not engaged at 40+11 is doubtfull this will happen. Really, really don't want to be induced though

Let's hope there's some truth to the full moon theory. I've also got a reflexology session booked this evening and therapist used to be a Midwife.

Feel like I'm running out of options & time now though

homebirthmummy4 · 27/05/2010 16:17

oh moggmum poor you, i am 40 + 7 and have reflexology booked for the morning! its wonderful isnt it? latest i have been is 40+16 and back then it wasnt mentioned as an issue and baby was perfectly well at birth. i understand how you feel about running out of options as it does seem as though medical opinion wants baby out before 42 weeks, i keep reminding myself that actually no-one can force you to have any procedure you dont want but i also know with every passing day it gets harder and harder to hang on in there. wouldnt it be funny though if we both did a prom walk and bumped into each other..if you see a dark haired (whale) woman lumbering down the prom in a blue spotty dress and flip flops its me. hope you have your baby really soon.

HettyTurner · 27/05/2010 19:49

Hello All,

Got back from hospital yesterday. My baby girl (Polly) was born on Sunday morning after 2 pessaries. She weighed 9lb6 and I had to have a forceps delivery as the cord was wrapped around her neck twice. All the midwives and doctors at the hospital were wonderful and I felt really looked after.

Hetty (and LO 4 days old)

mitfordsisters · 27/05/2010 22:57

Congrats Hetty!!!

strawberrycake · 28/05/2010 09:16

sob

now a whole week over.

KatnKankles · 28/05/2010 18:19

I forgot to post my update!

Ava Rose was born on the 18th May 6 days overdue (like both her sisters!) weighing 8lb 14oz. I had a lovely quick but painful 2 hour established labour and we were home the same day.

She's beautful and I'm thoroughly enjoying her.

Madcat, delighted to head you avoided induction.

Good luck to all waiting, it will be your turn soon.

burmesegrumbler · 29/05/2010 08:33

Please may I join you?

Was convinced the full moon last night would finally do the trick, alas no.

40+7 today, last exam (two days ago) showed I was already 3cm dilated and 75 effaced, 2/5 engaged, just the baby won't push down enough to get things moving....I am walking 2-3 hours per day, doing yoga positions to help encourage her to move further down, eating curry and pineapple, drinking RLT and massaging a clary sage oil blend onto my sacrum, what else can I do?

My routine induction is booked for Weds 2nd June, I had been planning a home birth, so really hoping I can coax her out before the induction date, please send advice and labour vibes in my direction!

strawberrycake · 29/05/2010 19:26

I'm 40+8 today, and feel too shattered to do much. I feel like my body has had enough. Last week's long walks, yoga and bouncing are falling by the wayside.

On Tues (I'll be +11) I have an appt. to discuss what to do.

MoggMum · 30/05/2010 08:51

40+14 today

Off to Hospital this afternoon for check-up and yet another sweep!

Scan on Tues to discuss options (if I have any left!)

Congratulations kat and good luck to strawberry & burmes - hope things happen soon.

strawberrycake · 30/05/2010 09:08

+14, I'm gaining on you, +9...and it doesn't feel like anything is going on!

Have you found your baby is more active? Mine is bouncing most the day now and quite painful at times when he stretches/ burrows. I was up until 2am last night with quite painful movement. THe movements re huge and so is he. He can stretch ribs, sideways and cervix all at once, like a mini cement mixer.

I hope I'm offered a scan before they decide to do anything, I want to see if there's a reason he's so long in coming or if it's one of those things. At 34 weeks I was told it looked like he would be soon, but nada since.

homebirthmummy4 · 30/05/2010 11:17

+10 today.

burmese, it is really hard to go against what doctors say, especially when you are desperate for baby to come, i too am planning a home birth and was discussing the lateness thing with midwife last week, i was told that whilst they PREFER induction, hospitalisation, monitoring etc, at 42 weeks, they cannot force anything on you and that they do actually have a legal obligation to provide care for you if that is what you wish, i myself am concerned about the situation as i have been told the risks etc. i am planning on taking each step as it comes, daily monitoring etc and certainly at the first hint of something not being well i will be actively seeking medical care but for as long as things are well with baby and me i am holding on. i hope your midwife and partner are supportive as that will be a great help. best wishes

sandytoes79 · 30/05/2010 12:08

hello ladies,

am coming to join you. I am 40+7 today and feel like I'm going a bit mad

So far have had 2 sweeps, cervix became a bit more favourable between them...but then nothing... Yesterday had acupuncture to try and get things shifting. Pineapple and curry/spicy food is starting to make me feel sick!

I agree strawberry cake that the movements can be quite uncomfortable now.

I have another sweep on Weds when I'll be 40+10, then booked in for induction on Friday. I so want to avoid this if I can- but I feel like I'm going crazy already!

madcatsazz · 30/05/2010 15:23

Hi homebirth - any more news? I just thought I'd post to those thinking about inductions - I declined induction until term plus 18 and some of you will have read my thread on it (here). My advice is, accept the monitoring and as long as everything is well, you should/can still have your homebirths. I eventually accepted having my waters broken but by then I was showing signs of being ready and went on to have a quick routine labour of 2 1/2 hours. A truly different experience from my 'medicalised' birth the first time round. Wishing everyone the best of luck.

homebirthmummy4 · 30/05/2010 21:11

no madcats, no more news, why does this baby not want to be born yet? shouldnt complain yet really ive had an 11day wait and a 16 day wait with previous babies. how is your lo?

MoggMum · 31/05/2010 06:17

40+15 today

madcats & homebirth you give me some hope with your previous track records

strawberrycake · 31/05/2010 08:13

Oh MOggMum, whether it's done or not...I'm offering you a hug!

I'm now 40+10 and I feel like I may be watching my waterbirth/ birthing centre plans sail out the window. Moggmum, have you been pressured for induction yet? I have an appt. tomorrow and I want to be prepared for what they say.

burmesegrumbler · 31/05/2010 09:16

Thanks homebirthmummy, I am now 40+9, I had another false start yesterday, now getting quite anxious about the induction on weds. Mw is due to visit this morning, think I will ask for a sweep as last exam showed I was very favourable, 3cm dilated and 75% effaced and also discuss the possibility of moving the induction date to + 14 if I go in for monitoring. It's slightly complicated in my case as I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 36 weeks. Despite the fact that even the diabetic consultant thinks I don't have gd( only three readings over the normal range) in 5 weeks, eating whatever I like, the obstetricians don't seem to take my self monitoring on board, or the fact ghat I have no other risk factors ( not overweight, not over 36, no high blood pressure, no problems with any blood tests or urine tests) and all scans show baby is normal size, slightly on the small side of the 50th percentile. I have had to fight tooth and nail not to be induced early and to keep my homebirth and this late on I'm not sure how much energy is worth wasting on fighting some more...

Any advice on how to try and get myself a few more days and also as i am already 'ready' it's just the baby doesn't seen to get further than 2/5 engaged, despite hours of walking and yoga positions everyday. What use is induction going to be if my cervix is already doing what it should? Do you think they will go for a
arm instead?
My sister in law had a still birth at full term (due to an umbilical cord problem nobody could have predicted) which keeps playing on my mind, as risk dies increase with long gestations, I'm stating to really wobble now- please help!
Sorry for typos and grammer, using iPhone!

MoggMum · 31/05/2010 10:45

strawberry I did have some pressure to be induced last week but once I made my wishes known they've been quite supportive. Different Midwives seem to have differing opinions on going over 40+12. I had to go in yesterday to have baby's heartbeat monitored for 20 mins and the Midwife made me feel like I was doing the right thing and that baby would come when ready. Going to meet Obstetrician tomorrow and have scan - this will be the real deciding factor for me. If placenta is still healthy and baby is happy then I'm going to give it a few more days. I've had no problems during this pregnancy, am not overweight but I am an 'older' mum at 39!

burmes sorry to hear about your SIL - very sad. Can they scan you before you make your decision re induction? Like you I want to give this baby chance to arrive naturally but not take any unnecessary risks.
