With my 2 DD's I took castor oil so pretty much suer it was going to happen soon after. This timne round there will be no castor oil, that is unless they say they'll induce me then I'll intervene. So anyway, hopefully this tiem it'll be a little more unexpected. Made me wonder where and when it might happen.

With DD1 it was 10.50pm on a Sunday evening and I was watching a rubbish film with DP - 'Cat's and Dogs'. Why on earth was that our choice of film that night????

With DD2 I was snoozing in bed, Sunday eve / Monday morning, about 2am ish.

Went into instant contractions, no slow build, waters didn't break with DD1 and they broke when I got up out of bed with DD2.

How about you?

mezzer · 28/06/2007 22:05

Started a few hours after sex and continued for another 40 hours (the contractions, not the sex!). About 34ish hours in, the MW popped my waters and things sped up after that.

clerpi - at 3 weeks of contractions! and I was feeling sorry for myself with two days!

ja9 · 28/06/2007 22:18

sleeping - both times.

labour started at around 4 am each time.

DixiePixie · 28/06/2007 22:18

We popped round to visit some friends who were giving us their old baby buggy, and my waters broke. They had another friend visiting at the time - a chap I had never met before. He left faster than the speed of light - I'm not even sure if he said goodbye to anyone - lol. My friend gave me a couple of her daughter's nappies to stuff down my knickers for the car journey home!!

NiceCuppaTea · 28/06/2007 22:42

ds1 - labour started in the middle of the night; waters broke after several hours of labour, literally minutes before he popped out
ds2 - labour started friday eveening, with not much happening until mw broke my waters on monday v. early in the morning - then things really sped up!
ds3 - hoping for it all to start any moment now... still have 6 weeks to go but am SO ready for it (ie. am SO fed up with being pg...)

tassis · 28/06/2007 22:52

ds - had had a bleed, been checked, midwife told me I was 4cm and things were starting, so I went for a walk, knew it was the real thing at the furthest corner of the park (felt like a long way back to the car), ds born about 3 hours later

dd - was about to drift off to sleep, felt I should nip to loo, had a HUGE bleed on loo (scary), rushed to hospital, strong contractions started about 2 hours later, dd born about 2 hours after that.

amidaiwish · 28/06/2007 22:53

DD1 -was swimming when contractions started
DD2 -had had period like pain for days which got stronger and came and went so evolved into contractions. think i was just around the house, tidying/watching TV/with DD1 etc.

Nizzer · 28/06/2007 23:55

DD - 10 days early, long build up, no particular trigger

DS - playing "there were ten in the bed, and the little one said..." with DD in the garden at my parents house, with full rolling and falling out of bed actions after each verse! They don't mention that in the books...

TheDuchessOfNorks · 29/06/2007 00:12

DD1 - making a shepherds pie when my waters broke all over the kitchen floor.

DS1 - having a lie-in. Fortunately my waters didn't break until just before the birth, thus saving my bedlinen.

DD2 - eating dinner. Just had time to put DD1 & DS1 to bed, ran the bath and then gave birth in it.

duchesse · 29/06/2007 00:20

Son: waters broke spectacularly in a church during a concert, at the precise moment my husband was putting viola to chin to do his solo. You should have seen the look on the face of the man sitting behind me! Baby was born 38 hours later.

Daughter 1: Got up, waters went everywhere. Loadsa mopping. She was born 21 hours later.

Daughter 2: went for lie down after lunch at 13 days overdue. During nap, felt pop, but no water came out as there was nothing left. She was born 4 hours later.

norkmaiden · 29/06/2007 00:21

reclining on a bed being induced

but went from zero to holding ds in 2.5 hours - result!!

incanada · 29/06/2007 03:16

Was during the world cup and lay down for a nap before the game. Was woken up by pains and when I got up discovered I was leaking.
Thought at first i'd wet myself.

Ds was born about 24 hours later. Never did get to watch the game!

Breezey · 29/06/2007 05:46

ds having a normal day, ignoring back pain (only 36 weeks) went out on boat, came home,ds arrived just few hours later when I finally realized normal back pain is not occuring exactly everyy 4.5 mins and called m/w.

dd sleeping (0400), leapt out of bed, dh delivered ds to gma, prepared bed for home birth, showered, shaved legs, (had no time with ds) called mw (0700)
then nothing happened 'till 1500, so was very unimpressed, as all supposed to be so slick 2nd time 'round

soiph · 29/06/2007 15:40

dd1 at 36 weeks small leak, went to hospital, MW said not in labour, 11.30 same night felt pop, huge gush of water, baby born 10 hours later.

dd2 waters broke just before 9 am, contractions started imediately, baby born 6 hours later (epidural worked, lovely birth)

ds waters broke at 8.50 in the evening just as I bent down to take my shoes of. baby born 7 hours later

with all 3 contractions started after waters broke

sam0mule · 29/06/2007 20:31

dd - 14 days over and induced. Had epidural at 4cm so no real sensation of labour. I Am now 6 days away from due date so lovely to read these posts. It really could happen any time and any way couldn't it?..

hjscho · 29/06/2007 20:40

DS - waters broke in bed. I couldn't feel contractions, but could see them on monitor. I was sent home and 72 hours later I was induced, given epidural early on.

DD - 11 days over due. I picked up my brother to look after DS whilst I was going to hospital to have pre-op checks for c-section. I had been ignoring the pains I was having (thinking I was constipated) as I had been told that natural labour was unlikely to happen. Had blood tests and then went to ante-natal ward to be checked. I told midwife that I was having pains and that I thought I was constipated or had urine infection. She checked me out and I had no infections. Whilst she was checking why I had been having the pains, I had a braxton hicks contraction (or so I thought). She thought it odd and sent me back to my seat. I had another contraction pretty quickly after and she put me on the monitor. Lying down I really felt them and MW then did internal and I was 6cm...and I thought I needed to go to the loo!!

Panyanpickle77 · 30/06/2007 09:38

with dd I woke up at 06:10 and thought I was weeing myself, but it slowly dawned on me when I had my first contraction. Dh finally came home after stopping for milk (oh so important!) and She was born after a 4.5hr labour (and many many many stitches which were all worth it).
With ds I woke up at 06:10 again, and again needed to rush to the loo. This time there was a massive pool of blood which made dh throw up and scared the sh$t out of me. I had first contraction on way to the hospital and got irritated with the snotty midwife who made me wait around while checking some details (she thought I was being fussy). My how her attitude changed when she checked and found I was 9cm dilated, she treated me with new found respect from that point on (lol). Ds was born after an hour and half labour, without a single stitch....it was fab (in a really painful best present in the world type way)

xxkiexx · 01/07/2007 20:40

with dd1 and 2 there was nothing out of the ordinary, but with ds i was 39+5 putting up dado rail in my living room trying to get everything perfect for his arrival. Finished about midnight and got into bed, had really tight pains in my back thinking it must have been from the strain of my diy antics. Had a great nights sleep and got on with everything i mormally do despite these niggly back pains, got girls to bed at 8pm and jumped into the bath, had been in 5 minutes when this huge gigantic pain spread through my belly! Called midwife who arrived half an hour later and said i was 4cms dltd. Was holding ds by 11pm.

girlwithcurls · 02/07/2007 11:03

Very interesting reading, first time with ds was induced so I keep asking everybody how their labour started as it didn't happen naturally for me. 3 weeks to go to due date now, bring it on! I am so fed up with being pregnant..just about to wash kitchen floor but that is a necessity more than a way of bringing on labour as there is no one around today to take ds1 if it did happen!

bhabi · 02/07/2007 19:32

watching most haunted live on 6.5.07 And of course Carl and Stuart's usual antics that they get up to on their vigils was the cause of it. I was 9 days early and only started the contractions at 11.30pm. My baby boy was born at 05.49am on 7.5.07.
So if you want a quick labour watch most haunted.

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 09/03/2009 19:25

Re-igniting this thread as Im bored waiting for my baby to come and this is a fab read!!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 09/03/2009 19:33

DS1 - was in hospital to be induced.

DS2 - waters went mid-way across the landing at 3am, nothing much else happened until lunchtime when I started to get a few niggles, but I decided to meet up with friends as we'd planned. Was sat watching ds1 play, fiddling with my TENS machine when all of a sudden the contractions became very srong and very real! Bundled ds1 into car, collected dh from home, threw ds1 out at pil's house and made it to the hospital 5 minutes before ds2 was born!

HecatesTwopenceworth · 09/03/2009 19:33

it is, isn't it?

both times I was hanging around hospital, having alarmingly frequent examinations, and getting more and more pissed off.

went in on the Wednesday with ds1, had him on the Saturday.

Went in on I think it was the Thursday or Friday with ds2, and he was born on the Tuesday.

feck me I was BORED!!

Thing is, I don't know if it's still the case, once they begin to induce you (with the gel) they won't let you leave (or at least that was the policy at the hospital they were born at). Generally though, it doesn't take the BEST PART OF A FRIGGING WEEK!!!!!!

SnowlightMcKenzie · 09/03/2009 19:35

What do you think I was doing? I was MNing of course!

Ronaldinhio · 09/03/2009 19:38

watching Grey's Anatomy...everytime I see the titles I get a wee bit of the excitement and anticipation I felt then
