In early labour now, what should I do?

I've been up since 1am and cobtractions are a bit sporadic but some very strong. I'm watching tv and mostly resting, having something small to eat and keep drinking and weeing to move around. Trying to stay in the zone I guess.

So any recommendations? Trying to keep occupied but don't want to distract too much as still quite early I reckon.

I am laid down in bed while DD and DH head off to their swimming lesson, so will report back on knicker situation after I've watched TV for the next hour in peace :)

Morning jenni! Glad you got a good rest last night and hope that is your waters going Grin

I was contracting on and off from about 9pm - midnight, then slept til 6am when they started up again. About an hour ago I decided to get my mum to pick up DS cos I've been throwing up and I didn't want him to get scared cos my labour with him was long, painful, intense & v pukey!!! Hopefully things wont be quite so drawn out this time but I feel more relaxed not having to pretend to be all happy, smily and fine Wink Just took some strong paracetamol and hanging out in rocking chair with tens machine on. Not progressing fast but not abating either so hopefully be at hospital this afternoon fx fx fx

Hope ur doing ok today too, time for waters to start breaking all over this thread GrinGrin How amazing if today is our babies birthdays!!!

jennimoo · 18/08/2013 11:50

Things still on-going here...tho slowly. More like 6 mins between contractions now, when it was 5 mins earlier. Getting more painful tho. But looks like we could both be waiting for a while zzz

Good luck jenni, hope things pick up again for you soon

Just a thought - just saw this thread & I had identical 'signs' 4 weeks ago - I went up & down our stairs about 6 times (but we have 3 flights so that's quite a few!)just before bed - I woke up 10 minutes later with contractions 3 mins apart (the day before I was monitored and they were every 10 mins so that gives you a timeframe) and I had my dd 12 hours later! Good luck!

jennimoo · 18/08/2013 13:58

Thanks for the tip! I did a fair bit of that yesterday but have a but if SPD so am sore today! If they kick off again will give it another try.

Littlemisssnowshine - how's it going? Really good everything goes nicely for you :)

I'd like someone to check me over tomorrow as I'm getting very anxious and low (history of depression too) and keep crying today and worry the baby is the wrong way round or something.

Do you think the MW will be ok with me calling?

SpottyTeacakes · 18/08/2013 19:42

Of course Jenni it'll be good for you to see the mw even if its just for some reassurance. In fact I think you should definitely call tomorrow Smile

jennimoo · 18/08/2013 20:18

Thanks spotty, I'm very anxious about ringing people generally so need to be reassured I'm not being silly!

How are you going today?

jennimoo · 19/08/2013 06:54

Didn't sleep well, but nothing happening :( will call MW in a bit and try to get checked out...

Good luck with the midwife. Did you call the maternity unit when you thought your waters were leaking?

jennimoo · 19/08/2013 07:07

I think it was just the lovely pregnancy incontinence I have suffered so didn't call. Was such a small quantity anyway...

When my waters were 'actually' leaking and I was having contractions last time I ended up told up for taking so long to ring (their pager service was broken and took ages of ringing round to get duty MW...) then somehow ended up laid on a paid having monitoring of heart rate (should have refused) then told my waters hadn't gone at all (absolutely not true) and sent home. Kind of put me off calling yesterday, as unlike last time I wasn't sure at all...

I suppose if they haven't leaked since and haven't been pooling when you lie down. Mine had quite a significant leak and I was given 48 hours or an induction would be needed. Baby arrived by itself. Maybe worth mentioning anyway and not having sex incase of infection. Just curries and pineapple for you Wink

jennimoo · 19/08/2013 08:32

Ok so I've left MW a message but she might not be on duty, and jotted down the number to call if urgent but not emergency at the hospital.

I'm now wondering if my instincts were right yesterday and I am leakung, as my knickers first thing were damp with something colourless which didn't really smell pee like (although I do leak pee most of the time at the mo Blush)

jenni - was due to come in at 8 this morning to be induced but I beat the clock and had a gorgeous big chunk of a baby boy at 9:49 last night, 10lbs3oz. Went to hospital at 4pm y'day, was 4cm but coping ok at home with tens to decided to head back to the house. Came back in at 7, was hoping to use birth pool but while midwife was filling it waters broke, there was meconium so no pool but contractions really ramped up and there was no time for any other pain relief so just sucked down some gas & air and before I knew it he was here.

Wishing you all the best Jenni, hopefully you wont have too much longer to wait and it will be so worthwhile!! Grin Grin

jennimoo · 19/08/2013 08:41

Littlemiss that's fab news! So pleased for you. Getting all teary :)

OP posts:
SpottyTeacakes · 19/08/2013 08:41

Shock Wow littlemiss congratulations what a chunk!

jennimoo · 19/08/2013 08:43

And little miss, we're you booked for induction because you were overdue, or because labour started or something?

OP posts:
CuriosityCola · 19/08/2013 08:47

Congratulations littlemissGrin

CuriosityCola · 19/08/2013 08:50

Hoiks up bossy pants. Time to phone the maternity unit Jenni. They will 100% want to know if you think your waters are leaking. You are not bothering them or phoning unnecessarily. They will probably tell you to keep any sanitary towels as evidence.

jennimoo · 19/08/2013 08:54

I will :( there's nothing on the towel I put in this morning though.
