swan and clymene This is quite a sweaty blog post but gives you a good insight into how people can get sucked into this coffeewithdan.com/high-ticket-coaching-scam/

It is really sad to think of these people effectively trapped once they've made the initial "investment" Shock

Mibb2 · 16/06/2021 14:47

Lol sweary not sweaty!

Clymene · 16/06/2021 14:58

Oh I read that too. It's a shocker.

This thread had fallen off my TIO so I'd lost track of it. There's been some sterling detective work going on and it's so interesting to understand how NLP works.

This whole thing reminds me of the bloke who used to come round the council estate where I lived and flog stuff off the back of a van. I ended up buying a really shit set of knives from him the first time I saw him because I totally fell for the patter and the stooges planted in the audience to get to buy before stocks ran out. I only fell for it once and it was £30 (total rip off) rather than £10,000 but it's exactly the same.

link removed by MNHQ at OP's request

SwanShaped · 16/06/2021 16:25

I found his writing incomprehensible, I’m afraid. But I did once get sold some knives from a sales guy! Still have them. I was totally sucked in.

GoodButNaughty · 16/06/2021 16:58

To all the amazing Mumsnet posters who supported the cause regarding the business practices of YCFF – thank you! I know it isn’t my place to say that, and of course I know I am not the OP (where has she gone?!), but I came onto this thread to fulfill a mission that I had already started before I found it.

So here is a bit of a summary as well as some important information on an action taken.

(The reason for my post is that I promised (teased!) a more detailed update on actions that were taken as a result of this thread and this is it. If after reading this any of you lovely people have any other direct questions for me – please do PM me as I will try to reply to all and any messages, as I have done to date).

First – I personally want to thank my therapist friend (herein referred to a ‘MTF’ for ease). She has been a huge support to me and my unhappy friend who I will refer to as ‘UH’ (the one who had a bad experience with YCFF). UH is delighted that we (that is all of the mumsnet posters!) have achieved this outcome and has even suggested she may come onto the thread herself in due course to give her story directly. I will respect her decision on that though.

So, UH was the main reason YCFF became a focus of some (ummm…lots!) of my time. While UH suggested not to bother as I would get nowhere I was determined to ensure no one else was taken advantage of as she was.

I asked MTF to look into them too as she is a Psychotherapist (and just for Jungle if she is reading, she has an MSc in Psychology) and works with lots of young people, with anxiety being a common issue she works with. Because MTF is the primary daily carer for a family member, she works part-time and has spare time to spend on things like this. She, like me, was horrified to hear UHs situation and tried to get some information direct from Sam to answer some of our concerns. When this wasn’t forthcoming and my spidey senses started to be triggered, I came across this thread. I am so glad that I did.

Lots of people PMd me with information – some that couldn’t be shared (or was asked not to be shared) which I completely respected but which added to the increasingly worrying picture that was emerging. For me, I perceived a huge breakthrough in understanding (thanks to one PMer and you know who you are!) who directed me to the HTCA website. I was aware of these guys personally from their ‘Fully Booked Formula’ days along time back and I immediately understood why what the Robins was doing was formatted as it was.

It seems to me now, that Sam’s NCFE Anxiety course may have come secondarily to the HTCA course. It may have been suggested to her that Anxiety was an opportunity that had ‘great potential for revenue’. Regardless, MTF and I thought it was important to disrupt YCFFs ability to entice any other desperate parents on to its formula. (Btw, someone actually PMd me that they weren’t even sure Sam had even done the course, so I actually called NCFE myself earlier today to raise a flag with them regarding the potential that someone is purporting to have done a course which is accredited by them. They directed me to an online form which allowed me to report malpractice anonymously. I spent 40 mins on the phone with NCFE who were amazing! They will receive a link to this thread and hopefully investigate - so thank you Hailey if you are reading this!).

So, to the (I think) most important element of our investigation. Early on in this, MTF put out feelers within her extensive contact list trying to find an investigative journalist, and she did through a freind of a friend. Like us, a Mum with teens. This amazing lady (Lucy lets call her) agreed to understand the issue and make some calls for us. Of course she has been reading this thread with huge interest and came up with a good angle which MTF and I had not considered. As you may know from public records, the Robins live in a wonderful private village called Clovelly www.clovelly.co.uk/. This article actually mentions Sam: www.devonlive.com/news/celebs-tv/devon-cornwall-more-4-clovelly-2813283

Renting is the only option and the owner of the village is The Hon. John Rous (Sam actually mentions him on her website). I read somewhere when researching (sorry I forget where) that Hon Rous believes it is very important to find the (my words not his) right type of residents for this private village and I dont blame him! If I had a village I would vet every single resident!! It was therefore summised that he would not take kindly to the sort of business actions of YCFF and so a call was arranged to provide awareness. Yesterday afternoon, Lucy made that call to the Clovelly Estate and provided them with some links to various websites, including the HTCA, YCFF main website and FaceBook page and of course, most importantly to ¬this thread. She did not make any unsubstantiated claims, she simply drew the information to their attention so that they could decide for themselves if they were happy with what was going on in their private village or not and if any action needed to be taken.

I understand it was a very interesting call (if you are after more details and I recognise you as a supporter of my actions please do PM me) and subsequently, only a few hours later the main YCFF website went down…I am thinking therefore that they decided action did need to be taken! Of course, I may have added 2+2 and made 5, but I am confident the call did have an impact.

Anyway - I do not know what will happen now, as I am sure that this could make a really interesting news feature or Horizon/Panorama/Watchdog report but it is early days. Btw, if you are joining this thread late, you might like to know (that among many other resources and evidence pieces) I have captured the wording of the original website, but for now I can direct you to this now defunct but still live (as in not been updated or used) website here if you are interested: www.anxietyfreeyou.com/biography

FYI - MTF or myself have also contacted the following over the last few weeks:

  • HMRC (re potential VAT fraud)
  • ASA regarding claims in Ads
  • Facebook re Ads
  • NCFE (as above)
  • TrustPilot over Reviews
  • Citizens Advice Trading Standards (I know others did this too before us)
  • CQQ (thanks to whoever it was that suggested this)

Finally, the compassionate part of me wants to add: I am sorry for any inevitable impact this will have on any YCFF users, and their anxious children. I truly am. I am also sorry for any impact this has on Sam and her family, however I for one, cannot condone this disgusting behaviour and I just hope that they will learn from this whole situation and operate a more ethical, professional and appropriate business in the future.

GoodButNaughty – over and out…

SwanShaped · 16/06/2021 17:11

Holy crap, good what an update! Say thanks to MTF and best wishes to UH.

Mibb2 · 16/06/2021 17:17

good thanks for the update. I agree with your final paragraph. I really hope that YCFF do the right thing by their existing customers - ie refunds and / or continued support (if appropriate).

Mibb2 · 16/06/2021 17:18

Yes, and thanks to UH and MTF as well (and all those who have contributed to this thread, especially those who have remained calm under fire!)

DoubleTweenQueen · 16/06/2021 17:23

@GoodButNaughty Thanks for the update! I hope UH is indeed quite heartened by your thorough tenacity and support of many MNers.

I am devoid of suspicious SR FB popups today - got to be a positive sign.

DoubleTweenQueen · 16/06/2021 17:26

........and let us know of any further developments x

Psuedoshoes · 16/06/2021 17:27

GBN, MTF and UH - amazing! Massive well done. I did find a link to a previous(?) business with links to the Robins called Clovelly Calm - the pieces of the puzzle start to fit!

I'm looking currently for a qualified child psychologist who can do online sessions - not that you haven't done enough already but if either of you have any recommendations of who to use I'd be only too happy to hear them.

Hopefully you've served a warning shot also to any other businesses who want to capitalise on children's distress - of course everybody has to make a living but usually this is done via years of education, training and hard work - especially when it comes to kids mental health.

Well done again, and thank you all 👏

dappledsunshine · 16/06/2021 18:06

Thanks for the update, and all the hard work you and MTP have completed behind the scenes.

I'm so glad action is being taken and the suspicions of many of us are being taken seriously.

My heart goes out to the parents and children/teens already sucked into this. I keep thinking about one of the parents on the webinar I watched who seemed uncomfortable with the session but I assume had already committed the money for the programme. In my desperation I was almost sucked in too ☹️

SwanShaped · 16/06/2021 18:41

My heart goes out to anyone who’s been involved in this and found this thread upsetting or worrying. And I really hope that people can find alternative support.

DoubleTweenQueen · 16/06/2021 20:12

@GoodButNaughty Seems the ads are back and attracting interest (KADS)

Not sure if the link will work.

DoubleTweenQueen · 16/06/2021 20:16

I may have spoken too soon - the dates are a day or so old - but the new website is available

Psuedoshoes · 16/06/2021 20:30

I think a new thread needs to be set up to discuss the merits of Kids Anxiety Disorder Solutions...

SwanShaped · 16/06/2021 21:08

Yeah the link works. I despair.

SwanShaped · 16/06/2021 21:09

Who is the person running it? I can’t see a name.

GoodButNaughty · 16/06/2021 21:29

The kids anxiety page is just a landing page to access the webinar; it’s the webinar I watched a few days ago. It’s hosted by Sam... btw the lady in the image is part of the HTCA group...

SwanShaped · 16/06/2021 21:36

I can’t bring myself to watch the webinar. Don’t know why.

SwanShaped · 16/06/2021 21:37

I’ve got another idea of where this could be discussed that might reach a few more parents. I’ll PM you GBN

Mibb2 · 17/06/2021 12:57

Does anyone know how the 'thread about a thread' rule works on MN. For example if someone started a thread in AIBU, eg AIBU to think that high ticket coaching is an inappropriate business model for a company providing children's / teenagers mental health services, and then linked to this thread would that be breaking the rule?

GoodButNaughty · 17/06/2021 13:58

Mibb2 - good idea and good question. I honestly don’t know, but I’m sure someone will Smile.

I’d think that as it is a different topic it would be okay..? Confused

TeenMinusTests · 17/06/2021 14:07

I think ideally you wouldn't link to this thread.
Definitely not in your opening post.
Plus remember that this thread is tucked away and people have shared personal info on it.

Some raising awareness on 'high ticket coaching' in general (I'd never heard of it) would be no bad idea for lots of reasons, not just teens. How about AIBU to think High Ticket Coaching preys on people as much as MLMs?

MumOf2Teens2020 · 17/06/2021 18:07

I came back this thread to update the group
of the progress my family and I are making on the course because I said I would. I see the thread has been going on and on...and I’m not sure if there is much point to me giving my opinion! The support my family and I are receiving from Sam and her team has been incredible - I cannot believe the change in me and even with my reluctant son, I am seeing strides being made. This is the only thing we have tried (we’ve tried CAMS, private psychotherapy, conventional CBT, group therapy...) that is working! It dismays me to read of all the places you have reported YCFF to! What on Earth do you think ripping that support away (potentially, with your actions!) from Families on this course will do to us and our children?! If you decide not to do the course then fine...but many have and we are so happy we found it! You may think you are on a crusade for the greater good, or maybe you are fighting the good fight for a friend but I am disappointed you cannot see this course is helping many people get their children and families back - because it is! Signing off now slightly appalled.
