Pregnant and on 2ww pathway as I’ve found a lump

hereismydog · 05/07/2024 22:02

I posted recently having noticed a large lump in my neck, assumed my thyroid had just gone a bit wonky with pregnancy hormones so saw my GP yesterday who has put me on the 2ww for head and neck to rule out cancer. I’ve had some other symptoms (tiredness, croaky voice) but it’s so difficult to know what is just plain hayfever or a pregnancy symptom and what isn’t. I’ve lost a bit of weight but I had horrible morning sickness through my entire first trimester so could be down to that.

I’m trying to keep it together and think rationally that it’s probably nothing sinister and my GP is just being cautious but I can’t help panicking. Would just like a handhold please while I wait Flowers

Glad you’ve got a scan. Not your question I know but do you have something to put on the itchy skin? Hope you’re otherwise doing brilliantly.

It almost feels like the itching is coming from inside my neck so nothing I put on it is helping 😫

Keeping ourselves busy painting the nursery today! 🥰

How frustrating. Hope you get something to relieve it soon. Sounds like you’re distracting yourself in a great way.

Goodness OP I hope you get some good news soon.

Scan all done, I had a lovely radiologist who told me everything she was seeing. Looks like it’s grown about 3-4mm since last scan, which I was expecting as it does feel bigger. Just have to wait to hear the plan now!

Well as long as it’s expected eh? Well done you. Keep focussed on growing the gorgeous baby and the plan for the unwanted malfunction will soon come. I’m currently going through chemo, having had surgery. It’s easier with a plan. 💐

Thank you Bimbles, Flowers and Cake for you, I hope chemo isn’t being too rough on you.

I’m loving the expression ‘unwanted malfunction’, going to steal that Grin it’s just been nicknamed ‘matey’ so far!

Hi OP, just read your thread, and I want to say that you sound awesome. If I was ever in your situation, I would hope I would be like you – realistic, optimistic, and all over the details. All the best for the rest of your pregnancy, and your ongoing treatment.

Hellooo folks! I had my thyroid appointment today, it has indeed grown and he wants to operate when baby is 3 or 4 weeks old 🫠 trying to come up with a plan to make sure DP and I have all the help we need!

In other news, I’m having some signs of latent labour so I reckon baby will be here by the end of the week 😮

Oh wow.
That's quite a lot to take in for you.
How are you and your DH feeling about all this?

Bimblesalong · 02/12/2024 20:22

Well you at least have a plan. And yay. Yay for baby -do update us,it’ll be super to have some squidgy news. I hope you’re able to have a lot of help. Life doesn’t half throw it at us sometimes.

It is a lot, but I’ve been preparing for it so it doesn’t feel so bad.

We are a bit worried about how things will be, and it has changed a few things such as how we wanted to feed baby (was planning to EBF, but will have to express and offer either formula or expressed bottles from day 1 so he can feed them while I can’t BF) and just hope my body can cope with continuing to produce milk while recovering from big surgery 😫 I’m worried that my mental health is going to take a hit at some point although it’s fine at the moment!

I have a truly wonderful midwife who has reassured me that I can request her for my postnatal care as I think I will really need her support too. I’ve had a phone call with the lady who will be my HV also so I’ve told her everything that’s going on so if DP or I notice any subtle changes in my mood we can get on top of it ASAP.

My DP has been so beyond incredible in his preparation to become a Dad and in his support for me that I really do feel safe and have fallen even more madly in love with him (GrinBlush) and I do believe that we will be absolutely fine.

Ooh also @TheShellBeach I think I remember from other threads that you are a midwife! I’m seeing my midwife tomorrow for my 38 week appointment so will fill her in on today’s news, do you think I’d have grounds to ask for a sweep to get baby on the move sooner as they are wanting to operate on me in January?

TheShellBeach · 02/12/2024 21:55

Hi @hereismydog

There's no reason why you can't request a sweep, but as this is your first baby, it's really only likely to be successful if you're already in labour. If you're not, your cervix won't be open enough to admit the midwife's fingers. I don't want you to be disappointed.

Is the baby's head low? Do you know the position?

Baby is absolutely wedged down low and I’ve had a cramping/stretching feeling in my cervix for about 5 days (at one point it had me clinging to my trolley handle in Tesco!), also keep feeling aching in my back and legs like I have a period coming so I think I’m in latent labour. Will ask her to check my cervix in any case!

It doesn't sound like it'll be too long before you meet your baby! How exciting.

hereismydog · 03/12/2024 11:37

Midwife didn’t want to give me a sweep as she doesn’t have access to any documentation by the thyroid consultant re his plans to operate in a few weeks 😩 I’m seeing the obstetrician on Friday and hoping he has emailed her as previously agreed, so hoping she is happy to sweep me if I’m not already in active labour by then.

Midwife had a good squish of my belly this morning and baby is most definitely engaged, so things are moving along. Swigging raspberry leaf tea by the pint today, and DP and I are planning a tactical shag later…how romantic! 🤣

Hello!

I’m doing alright thank you, although I had a failed (and bloody painful) attempt at a sweep this morning which wasn’t much fun! Induction was meant to be today but I saw a different obstetrician at my last appointment who wouldn’t agree to it despite knowing everything else that’s going on for me! 🙄

They’ve offered me two options: try again in 3 days or I can just choose to be induced now, I’m going to have a think tonight and decide, but I will probably choose the induction.

I also had a call today from ENT offering me a surgery date of 29th January so I’ll be just about recovered from giving birth before they chop my neck up 🫣

OP posts:
BreathingDeep · 12/12/2024 16:31

Oh goodness, that's crappy that they wouldn't induce you despite everything that's going on, but fingers crossed, hereismypuppy will be here before you know it. As for the date, tell yourself it's next year and you'll think about it nearer the time and just focus on the task at hand.

If it helps, one of my babies is a Christmas baby and there is something utterly magical about tiny newborns all snuggled up next to a Christmas tree with twinkly lights.

Deep breathe, drink hot chocolate, lie on the sofa under a blanket and take it hour by hour. Sending lots of love x

I’m so excited to hear news of baby being here. No advice on which route to take as it’s so personal, please do update us when you can. I really am thinking of you xx
