Pregnant and on 2ww pathway as I’ve found a lump

I posted recently having noticed a large lump in my neck, assumed my thyroid had just gone a bit wonky with pregnancy hormones so saw my GP yesterday who has put me on the 2ww for head and neck to rule out cancer. I’ve had some other symptoms (tiredness, croaky voice) but it’s so difficult to know what is just plain hayfever or a pregnancy symptom and what isn’t. I’ve lost a bit of weight but I had horrible morning sickness through my entire first trimester so could be down to that.

I’m trying to keep it together and think rationally that it’s probably nothing sinister and my GP is just being cautious but I can’t help panicking. Would just like a handhold please while I wait Flowers

Bless you op, sounds like a painful biopsy Sad!
Look forward to a scan update tomorrow

BreathingDeep · 01/08/2024 17:25

Oh OP, well done for having the biopsy behind you, and that's really good news that the radiologist can't see anything on the lymph nodes - that's what you want to hear!

I'm in the same situation, though not the neck, and am waiting for my biopsy results. Holding your hand and cheering you on!

Baby is perfect ❤️

I’ve been so anxious about how all this might be affecting them, but they were happily waving at us throughout the scan.

Biopsy done today, they saw a well-defined mass on my thyroid so took 3 samples (fucking ouch!!), will be around a week for results. Radiologist was very open and honest with me and said he is 50/50 as to whether it’s malignant, but he checked all the local lymph nodes and they all appear clear, so if it is malignant, it hasn’t gone anywhere.

Yes, I remember those samples being taken. Very unpleasant.
On another note though, lovely scan picture

How are you doing, OP? X

Thank you for checking on me Flowers

No results yet 😖 I called them to chase today and spoke to a really lovely care navigator who explained that there’s been a delay in reporting results (positive and negative) so I’m still trying not to stress too much but I just want to know the outcome so I can try and crack on with enjoying the rest of my pregnancy, start decorating the nursery etc. She said to call back Friday and if still no results, she will escalate to the reporting lab.

I'm so sorry you're having to wait OP, so glad your partner is so supportive and caring.

Justmyluck2024 · 21/08/2024 16:41

So much love to you @hereismydog, hoping all
goes well with the results xx

hereismydog · 27/08/2024 15:23

Well, I called about 10 times on Friday and another 10 times today. Tried two different numbers, one keeps going straight to voicemail and the other just rings and rings with no answer.

I feel a bit abandoned at the moment, I would expect/hope there to be someone there to answer a phone number that’s listed as ‘cancer pathway navigator’ Sad

@hereismydog Your baby is gorgeous. I hope you soon get results and the best news. I'm currently undergoing cancer treatment and can completely understand the stress of waiting.

LemonBitter · 27/08/2024 15:28

What a gorgeous scan photo. So sorry you've been left with no answers, that's awful. Really hope you can speak with someone soon xx

hereismydog · 27/08/2024 20:54

@Bimblesalong @LemonBitter thank you 🥰 it still doesn’t feel entirely real that I’m growing a whole person (plus whatever else I might be growing in my neck 😂)

We’ve chosen not to find out the sex so we have something to look forward to! Been feeling them kick properly this week, which has been lovely.

Also making a start on the nursery as a little distraction! I’m going on holiday with my sister next week, which I’m looking forward to. Trying to give this as little day-to-day headspace as possible as I feel like worrying about it isn’t going to change the biopsy result, whatever it turns out to be!

Still nothing! I rang the cancer pathway coordinator again yesterday and managed to get through this time, she checked and it’s still showing as results pending Sad I’m on holiday now for a week just trying to enjoy good food and soaking up a bit of sunshine and swimming so have agreed with her I’ll call when I’m home and she will chase it in the meantime, I asked not to have someone call me while I’m abroad in case the result isn’t what I want to hear as it’ll ruin my time away!

Picoloangel · 06/09/2024 08:02

I hope you get some resolution soon. You could always involve PALS when you get back. In the meantime enjoy your holiday 😊

Bimblesalong · 06/09/2024 08:14

Glad you’re away and hope you can put it out of your mind for as much time as possible. My biopsy results came through fairly quickly (10 days) but the tissue samples from my lumpectomy took 3 weeks due to capacity issues in the system.

I hope yours are back and good news once you’re home.

Cas112 · 06/09/2024 09:20

I have a lump on my neck that had the two ww luckily it's just a gland that's swollen and for some reason has never gone down since. Not always a sinister reason op so try not to worry and just be glad the dr is proactive x

Sorry I didn't realise this was an ongoing thread, sending thoughts your way op! Hopefully biopsy comes back ok!

Springadorable · 11/09/2024 21:47

Hope you've had a lovely holiday OP and come back with energy to continue chasing your results. You shouldn't have to, but sadly that seems to be the case for so many.

hereismydog · 12/09/2024 14:35

Update 😫 I had a phone call yesterday asking me to come in for a face to face appointment to discuss my results. Obviously that made me suspicious as they wouldn’t want to see me F2F for negative results, so checked my NHS app to see if there were any clues there, and someone has uploaded a copy of the MDT meeting notes discussing my case, despite the big, red warning notice at the top saying not to upload them where I could see them as they hadn’t been discussed 🫣

The long and short of it is that they can’t tell from the biopsy whether it’s cancer or not, but it looks like it might be, so they want to do a diagnostic thyroidectomy, but can’t do it yet because I’m pregnant. Either way, I’ll lose my thyroid!

I’ve got an unrelated appointment with the obstetrician on Monday (no obs consultant was in the MDT meeting so I don’t know if they know what’s actually going on at all!) so I will fill them in and ask if they would be happy to deliver me at 37 weeks so I can crack on with treatment. Then my ENT appointment is Tuesday so will find out what exactly the plan is.

WithIcePlease · 12/09/2024 14:48

I cannot imagine how difficult this is for you. Sending hugs

Just jumped on to say, screenshot what you found on NHS appt just in case it disappears before your upcoming appointment xx

Pearl97 · 12/09/2024 14:52

I was going to say make sure you keep proof of the information you’ve seen.
thinking of you x

hereismydog · 12/09/2024 15:00

I’ve taken screenshots of everything!

Not so bad for me because I’m a nurse so I understand what it means and have used the information to prepare myself for the F2F so I know what questions I’d like to ask, but fully aware that someone else might read those results and absolutely go off in a wild panic so I will bring it up.

OP posts:
Pearl97 · 12/09/2024 15:03

Glad you have knowledge. If it was me I would just think I knew what it meant and really panic.
Can’t wait to hear news of baby being here!
