What do you do about errr ....<coughs> sex when camping?

I have to say I found it a bit inhibiting.

Toddler asleep a few metres away, but that wasn't really the biggest issue.

I couldn't really get rid of the knowldge that there were loads of people sitting around their tents and the only thing dividing them from our bonking was a bit of nylon.

Very paranoid about making any noise and then it was a bit of a faff errr... clearing up afterwards....

Do you all go at it like randy teenagers under canvas or was I not alone in mostly chastely reading a chapter of my book of a night-time?

Only do it when there is very windy weather!
Then no-one will hear you and they will be too busy trying to stop their tents blowing away....better hope yours doesn't

Oh dear, I thought tent material was soundproofed nowadays - we must have kept the neighbours awake rather alot over the last 3 weeks

Where's your sense of excitement, tent shagging is great especially with a torch on!! Great for making shadows against the walls of the tent!!

As for the noise, just use a pillow to muffle any noise!

As for the mess I'm sure you can think of ways to cure that!

We announced we were pregnant this weekend and my 85 year old Grandad said he wasn't surprised as we had recently been camping!

Yeah, jsut what my 3 kids need to see and hear - mum and dad going at it like rabbits (interesting shadows though!) through a tent wall. Scar them for life, that would...and seriously am not jealous

Back when I was a student I was working at a festival and all of us working together were camping in the same field.

One night after a lengthy pub session one of the guys had lured a girl to his tent and was trying every trick in the book to get her to sleep with him. Little did he know that the whole field of fellow workers could hear his increasingly desperate attempts to persuade this girl to let him have his way with her.

After about half an hour of his pleading, cajoling, persuading, and frankly, begging, a voice called out from across the field:

"Oh for goodness sake Louise, just shag him and then we can all get some bloody sleep!"

Needless to say, there was complete and utter silence after that. He didn't get his shag.

Also - we make sure two small boys zipped in to their pod with the zip at the top, where they can't reach it.

DS2 was conceived in a tent in the middle of a thunderstorm. Was the thunderstorm that clinched the deal...the sex..not the pregnancy. Luckily DS1 slept through it all in the other 'room'.

For tent sex, my DP wears one of those head torches to illuminate the appropriate areas.

He's an ex-miner so is used to delving around in the dark. Just thank god he no longer wears his pit pants - whilst camping or otherwise !

oneopinionatedmother Oh my word, I've done a lot of things in China but I've never done that! Yurts, dormitories, public gardens...but not a bus! I'm giving a talk to some uni students on Weds about living in China, wonder what they'd think if I dropped your brother's story in to the talk?!

@baiyu the girl in question was a presenter on local TV (ie, with a viewing audience approaching 250 million) and something of an extrovert. Brother also was asked to model 'weight-lossing' undies (which he did!) and has lectured at Chinese universitites as a 'visiting professor' (he had a Bsc at the time). He also won second prize in a local tv 'stars in your eyes' competition - China eh - endless possibilities!!

i loved the three weeks i spent there, but still get all misty eyed thinking about Taiwan (such nice people!)

I think most students would like to know that Western men who never get laid at home can attract beautiful local ladies over there...

I camped at chi-pen hotsprings once too -which has been in the news. The only interesting thing that happened when i was there was knocking back vodka and oreos at 4 in the morning whilst swimming in a hot-spring pool. Happy days.

We have just started camping and haven't tried tent sex - us and dc in one room so too scared to! Did occur to me that living area would still be possible tho...

First trip we had rain and gales nearly every night so should have taken advantage of the wind noise, if only we'd realised there was a positive to the weather!

(Did find one positive to the wild weather noise - one wind free night we were somewhat extremely traumatised by the v loud noise of mice scuttling around under the groundsheet! All the good tips I picked up from MN and no-one warned me about this happening )

Haven't had tent sex but know friends who have and didn't here the sex itself but did here the conversations before and after and it was confirmed but my friend the following morning!

We have done it while the others were getting dressed and making coffee very, very quietly and quite quickly but it was great sex!!

I'm with you gigglewitch... a miner's lamp!!! It's almost gynaecological and wouldn't it blind you at odd moments!

As for sex in a tent, it's like anything.. be aware of those around you and if you are sure you can get away with it without being discovered - get to it! Or camp in one of those cool campsites with few people and wide spaces between the tents. Just leave the camp bed at home... squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak

oneopinionatedmother that's brilliant! My DP taught at a uni with just A Levels! I love Taiwan too, it's like China but with added cleanliness and friendliness, bliss! Spent 2 months living there, may go back to live if the opportunity is right, a friend of mine is now a tv presenter there, crazy bunch!
