So last year we had a general chat thread for bragging/nattering/safe havens from when the trolls were out in the main boards! Thought we would start one again as it was lovely!

Sorry, do you mean Aldi has bamboo base layers or is that somewhere else?

Hope they have some goodies left tomorrow!

muchostinky · 19/04/2012 10:39

Reshape - we are going on our own tent to Fforest fields, no tipi'ing for us!

I wish you hadn't mentioned the Aldi camping stuff, am supposed to be studying for my exams next week, but have a sudden yearning for Aldi! Angry
I will be telling oh that I am going for washing powder though :)

CavemanDaveHasNeverBeenToWales · 19/04/2012 10:39

I had a bit of a wobble at the aluminium (I don't cook with it as a rule) but figured given it won't get used that often, then it should be OK.
The cookbook downloaded from the Omnia website looks fab actually.

I just can't justify a Cobb sadly. So hopefully this'll be a bit of a compromise.

CavemanDaveHasNeverBeenToWales · 19/04/2012 10:41

Yes Reshape - Aldi has bamboo base layers - same properties as the nappoes so antibac and theoretically whiff-free Grin Got to be worth a punt I reckon.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 19/04/2012 11:19

Muchostinky - I didn't realise you could camp there - I had a look at their website and couldn't see a BYOT (bring your own tent) option! Grin Mmm, tempted.

I think I'll just have a look at the bamboo tops tomorrow. Just to see. Wink

Migsy1 · 19/04/2012 11:27

Just come back from Aldi - I've got the windbreak - £6.99 and 2m long. I also got a pair of hiking boots for DS (sizes 12-3 £9.99). I was tempted by the base layer but there were none in my size :( They were lovely and soft.

hillbilly · 19/04/2012 11:38

Excuse my ignorance but what the heck are gaiters?

Migsy1 · 19/04/2012 11:40

Gaiters www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/special_buys3_24204.htm

nottersisnotmargo · 19/04/2012 11:50

Have just bought a shark windsock flag. Blush

#essential camping kit

issyocean · 19/04/2012 12:01

I've just been to Aldi and bought a photo daisy print plastic table cloth #essentialcampingkit.

I like this I've been to Aldi game

issyocean · 19/04/2012 12:04

ooh also got two huge fleece blankets reduced to 2.99 each. They are pink but DD and I don't mind Grin

Slubberdegullion · 19/04/2012 12:58

I am IN the Aldi gaiters and walking socks as I type, I am also eating an Aldi meatball sandwich in Aldi bread whilst contemplating the Aldi vodka (for dishwasher vodka making).

Go-Aldi!

Also got the boots for a dc and had a feel of the bamboo baselayers which were tremendously soft but did not like the IN YOUR FACE TURQUOISE of the laydee variety. Would have got a soft-grey men's one had they not been in super size L only.

Never mind. Theses gaiters are great. Just walked for an hour in them and look! No muddy trouser bottoms. Nice.

Slubberdegullion · 19/04/2012 12:59

issy the blankets are great. I turned them into sleeping bag liners last year and they are so soft to sleep in.

Quenelle · 19/04/2012 13:02

I want bamboo base layers and fleece blankets too! Do Aldi usually sell out of these things on the day? I can't get there before Saturday.

Slubber - dishwasher vodka making?

Slubberdegullion · 19/04/2012 13:07

yy tis a mn thing but Lovecat is your local camping knower of how to make it.

To summarise:
drink pour out and store some vodka from the bottle
Smash up sweets of choice
Add sweets to vodka
Put lid on
Stick in dishwasher
Shake gently whilst it's still warm when it comes out
Drink flavoured vodka

Tis an experiment

ReshapeWhileDamp · 19/04/2012 13:36

Quenelle - the fleece blankets were a special from a few weeks ago, so if they still have them in now, then they can't have been selling too fast. I have a red one for camping that I bought 2 or 3 weeks ago. Smile

Quenelle · 19/04/2012 13:45

Dishwasher Vodka. Genius.

Thanks Reshape. Looks like I'll be out of luck vis fleece blankets. I'll pop along on Saturday anyway to see what's left.

Lovecat · 19/04/2012 16:29

I'm off to Aldi tonight (we have run out of washing up liquid and theirs is lovely - that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!)

Quenelle, our local Aldi never seems to sell out of camping/outdoorsy stuff, possibly because we is in Greater London (innit) and often has it for weeks afterwards. Would you like me to see if they have any fleece blankets whenI go? I dunno if Aldi are posh enough to do 'order it in from another branch' type stuff for you...

Lovecat · 19/04/2012 16:36

And if they have any gaiters left then I may well get a pair, am fed up with damp-bottomed work trousers in the current monsoon conditions (these wide-legged styles may well be supposedly flattering but by God they drag on the floor if you wear them with flats!).

And yyy, Dishwasher voddy is the nuts :o

Quenelle · 19/04/2012 16:50

That's very kind of you Lovecat. Thanks! Smile

muchostinky · 19/04/2012 17:26

I have just arrived back from Aldi and I bought...

A windbreak
Some walking boots for DS
and a hexy stove for emergencies and to remind me of when I was young and still a cadet on camp.

Lucycat · 19/04/2012 17:38

hello peeps - I am here for the season too. Smile
Just returned from Anglesey over Easter - brrrrr but Palamos was great. We are off to Wales at Whit and then right down to the south of France in the summer - after the Welsh rain I am going to need some hot sunshine.

I need some plastic sheeting to put under the groundsheet a la Dutch style to stop the grit getting into the tent.....
