So last year we had a general chat thread for bragging/nattering/safe havens from when the trolls were out in the main boards! Thought we would start one again as it was lovely!

Tinned m&s curry with ready cooked rice is one of my staples too.

Aboutlastnight · 18/04/2012 20:01

this is where we will be bank holiday weekend

Am already looking out the hot water bottles, woolly hats, thick docks and waterproofs. Brrrr

But the good news is that my beautiful be tent arrives next week. We will have a naming ceremony, am so excited.

FuntimeFelicity · 18/04/2012 20:02

There are also gaiters

Quenelle · 18/04/2012 20:03

Thanks Chippy, I didn't realise those Duralex tumblers were a design classic. I have quaffed local plonk from those many times over the years. Will definitely look for some when I get there.

I'm making notes of all your camping recipes.

hillbilly · 18/04/2012 20:08

Speaking of things to cook - these are fantastic and the kids love helping www.telegraph.co.uk/foodanddrink/recipes/7875645/Childrens-outdoor-party-food-Dampers-recipe.html

nottersisnotmargo · 18/04/2012 20:08

HO yes indeedy Felicity!

threeandcounting · 18/04/2012 20:15

Awaiting the arrival of my tent any day now, so can I join in too?! We plan to try it out at the weekend if it comes.......eeeek!

loubielou31 · 18/04/2012 20:19

I'm sorry for being dim felicity Blush
I've cooked dampers many a time on cub camp, (I was a venture scout and we used to go along as general dogbodies) but had forgotten all about them. We always poured jam down the middle of them.
aboutlastnight that looks like a beautiful spot. Just don't forget your avon skin so soft.

Aboutlastnight · 18/04/2012 20:20

What a fab recipe!

Aboutlastnight · 18/04/2012 20:25

Oh I have several vats the odd bottle although on this windy coast the midges are less of a problem than your tent being blown away :)

nottersisnotmargo · 18/04/2012 20:26

Ive got some of that I get bitten to death usually.

Last year though I bought a mosquito band ( which was bright orange) didn't get bitten once. Now, what was it called......?

msbuggywinkle · 18/04/2012 20:35

Can I join in? We have looooads of camping planned this year!

May Bank Holiday weekend, a quick local trip for trial run of camping with 3DDs.
Jubilee weekend, big group of friends at the commune where another friend lives. Really excited about the wild swimming!
Late June, 10 day Home ed camp.
July, 7 day Home ed camp.
August, 7 day home ed camp.

Recommend me a sleeping bag for my 3yo?

FuntimeFelicity · 18/04/2012 20:43

Ds1 has this one (also comes in red) which he loves.

Migsy1 · 18/04/2012 20:49

Aldi has a few camping thingies at the mo. I got a folding washing up bowl and I hope to get a windbreak next time. They also have folding water carriers and I can't remember what else.

Slubberdegullion · 18/04/2012 21:17

The Gaiters Are Back!

I cannot tell you how many times I have regretted not buying them last year

muchostinky · 18/04/2012 21:33

Hope that you don't mind if I join in too?

I have booked to go to Fforest Fields at the beginning of June and Thistledown in August. Hopefully a couple of weekends here and there too!

I have just ordered an icey-tek, will arrive on Friday!!

AngryFeet · 18/04/2012 22:38

Sorry ladies who asked but this will be my first time at Wellington. I will report back though :)

ReshapeWhileDamp · 18/04/2012 22:59

Fforest? Envy Would love to go there, but DH will say 'but we've got the bell tent now, what's the point in paying to stay in someone else's tipi?' and I suppose he has a point. Grin

I'm hoping to get to Aldi on friday, because aside from the desperate need to peruse buffs, etc, I also quite need some food Grin, but will only be able to go IF DS1 recovers from his lurgy enough to go to preschool. I can just about drag myself and DS2 round there if I'm feeling a bit rubbish, but taking a 4 yo too? never. So what else is in Aldi at the moment? Am tempted to get a windbreak after Notters said they were All That.

Duralex makes me feel all safe and cosy for some reason (no sniggering at the back). Maybe because we had them at home as a kid. I just treated myself to this for camping, because I don't really want to take the vintage 70's orange melamine mugs out again. DH has an enamel Dad's Army mug. Grin

fussbucket · 18/04/2012 23:13

Way up thread someone said they wanted to see choughs - they were going to be on Lleyn peninsular. Just to say we saw at least 20 different ones last year, staying in and around Cardigan/Aberteifi for Welsh language purists - so recommend going south...
Still haven't found new chairs for this year, any thoughts anyone?

LostInWales · 18/04/2012 23:24

Where were you fussbudget? I am occasionally in the Abertiefi area because I live there cough Wink

LostInWales · 18/04/2012 23:25

Which is why I can't spell it of course Blush

LostInWales · 18/04/2012 23:26

fussbucket bedtime I think.

CavemanDaveHasNeverBeenToWales · 19/04/2012 01:46

Grin pmsl at chaps for sale in Aldi. Classic! I'm tempted for the bamboo base layers, albeit I wouldn't want to be woken up by any passing hungry pandas.
We have joined the Dark Side and bought a wee caravan. Off to Edwinstowe this weekend.

Tomjoules · 19/04/2012 08:03

Gaiters. Fab. Know where I'm going after work!

Dh came back from there last week with a head only mosquito net. Green. He wore it whilst gardening, as we are malaria central here.

Slubberdegullion · 19/04/2012 08:38

Tom would you like me to get you a pair? I am going this morning.
I see they also have rollator zimmerman frames, long handled shoe horns and those grabber arms... of any use to you?
