Gawd, the minimalists will kill us.....

It was Someone Else's idea, all right?

Carry on where you left off, be it owls, bins, sharks, tins of vodka, karaoke etc. [grain]

three months oh, that's more than a little jaunt then. Think big, why not! Oh I hope you can work it out, what an amazing experience. Grin

MisSalLaneous · 06/09/2011 22:22

Oh no no no, dh work trip only for 2 weeks. It's the camping masterplan for the lot of us that's going to be for 3 months. We can send pics to the dh's at home and everything.

scaryt · 06/09/2011 22:25

oooh Sal if you can I would definitely say go for it, these opportunities don't come up all the time. Sod school, think how much he'll get out of being in Hong Kong . Amazing.

lost - very jealous of your scout. I really wanted one of those but this will be my car rather than main car (we have an Octavia - have already planted the seeds that a scout would be a good move for when DH eventually changes his car but that's a while away yet). Looking to get a red fabia for me with a white roof! Daft 'eh? Your Scout will be fab for everything. When do you get it?

notwavingjustironing · 06/09/2011 22:27

Wad completely taken in then. I thought you were serious

OP posts:
notwavingjustironing · 06/09/2011 22:31

You mean all of US ?

OP posts:
MisSalLaneous · 06/09/2011 22:36

Indeed, notwaving. Grin I give you [[http://www.urban-outdoors.com/tag/camping/ our options]. How can you not??

Dh's work frowns upon weird wives, so I pretend to be all sensible and presentable. Will be business hotel, but I've already found out they have free wine in the bar in the evening. They should be relieved ds will come with if I am, or it would have been a dead loss.

MisSalLaneous · 06/09/2011 22:37

Urgh, stupid second link: of beautiful beaches. Look out the window around 10am tomorrow morning, and tell me again how this is a silly idea.

lostinwales · 06/09/2011 22:54

three months and all of us you say? get onto your dealer scaryt, I think we're going to need another car.

The new car, due in a week as the dealer only got it yesterday and it needs new plates as it had 'cherish plates' Hmm before, will be our main car. DH has a fiat seciento, so not really a car for camping unless we go really minimalist!

Two weeks in a business class hotel in HK? Go for it, nursery cannot possibly complain, it's not like they will miss learning algebra or anything. (and there's free Wine that's got to be worth ruffling a few feathers. (apologies if brambles hens are listening, not your feathers of course))

notwavingjustironing · 06/09/2011 22:58

Fire up the Skoda !

OP posts:
MisSalLaneous · 06/09/2011 23:00

Grin What are 'cherish plates'? Ooh, and how exciting, just a week, you say? I wouldn't be able to sleep if I were you. I haven't quite moved on from being 5 years old and still get very excited (and impatient) about waiting for things.

lostinwales · 06/09/2011 23:01

See 20 years ago that would have been the punchline to yet another Skoda/Lada joke.

MisSalLaneous · 06/09/2011 23:02

Btw, there is someone on camping (Mollie someone? Can't remember, haven't seen her around for a while) that goes camping in a sports car! Now that is what I call impressive camping!

notwavingjustironing · 06/09/2011 23:07

Cherish plates are for knobbers people who feel that personalised number plates are the height of twattery class

OP posts:
lostinwales · 06/09/2011 23:09

Cross posted! I think 'cherish plates' are the ones that MN hates as they are personalised. I hate them today as I can't have my car until it has new number plates so they can MOT it. Nor can I insure it. I don't care though, I've been driving a car I never really liked for years as I could fit three car seats across the back. I feel guilty now, poor multipla just took us safely round Europe, it was fine as a car, just not much fun to drive and the boot space could have been better.

MisSalLaneous · 06/09/2011 23:19

Ahhh, those kind of plates. I always wonder why anyone would choose to pay extra money to look like an idiot.

lostinwales · 06/09/2011 23:36

In the morning when I have the laptop back I will tell you about my parents 'cherish plates'. They are one of the reasons I'm glad they live miles away, but still as they are my parents I think it's a little bit sweet (but not so much it isn't embarrassing as only parents can be)

notwavingjustironing · 06/09/2011 23:39

My sister in law has them

doesn't mean I agree with them

OP posts:
MisSalLaneous · 06/09/2011 23:47

Oh crap, I'm really sorry. Honestly, I'm loud and just talk rubbish tonight. Sorry. Blush

Oh and anyway lost, it's not actually that bad, but even if so, yes, parents are supposed to embarrass their children. It's in The Rules.

YellowDinosaur · 07/09/2011 06:55

I wonder how brambles hatching has progressed overnight...

MisSal that link to camping in Hong Kong makes me green with envy! Looks gorgeous. I spent 7 weeks in Hong Kong one summer when I was in university. One of my friends lived over there so I stayed with them, worked in a restaurant in the evening and did the sightseeing thing during the day. It was lovely. 3 months camping or 2 weeks in a business class hotel with free wine - either sound good as far as I am concerned!

Cherish plates Hmm?? Never heard them called that before but I think they are a waste of space too (was going to be ruder but didn't want to offend the various relatives with them!!) One of my exes really wanted to get personalised plates. I should have realised that he was a twat it wasn't a goer then shouldn't I?

ANyway best go and get ready for work - see you later!

brambleschooks · 07/09/2011 07:30

Hong kong camping looks amazing, but I came over all 'the beach' for a moment looking at the pictures.

3 very newly hatched live chicks this morning, as in still damp and not fluffed up. All silver laced Wyandotte bantams. One more hatched and died, bless it, all that effort for nothing - little bit of yolk sac not quite absorbed. Removed that as it was on top of another hatching away. Lots more cheeping eggs, it's going to be an interesting day! I need to see one of my lavender pekin frizzles!

Am off work this morning, will do my best to try not to stare at the hen house all morning!

Cherish plates. Hmm. Himself bought some 2 years ago and hasn't had them put on yet. He will do though. Hmmm.

lostinwales · 07/09/2011 08:41

My parents are soooo embarrassing (man I can still put that and I'm 37). My dad got a new car and the garage had a plate Letter Number XXX which he thought looked cool so he got it quite cheaply. (oh and I mean XXX not standing for three random letters, really XXX). He had it on his silver executive man car. That was ok, well embarrassing, but ok. Then my mum got a new car, same make as my dad's, same colour only smaller model, they managed to find her same Letter, half Number XXX. So they now drive round in his and hers matching cars with matching number plates. I dare not even tell them how naff it is (although still quite endearing, in a don't they realise, oh bless, sort of way) I did borrow my mum's for a while and got lots of smiles, some thumbs of from blokes, I've just realised that a not bad looking 20 something in a car with XXX on the number plate probably made people think quite the wrong thing.

Anyway, that was an early morning waffle. Bramble how fab! I need to see a lavender pekin frizzle too, what ace looking birds. You're making me want chickens again now even though after the ducks I made myself promise not to.

brambleschooks · 07/09/2011 09:01

I have just hand hatched my first lavender pekin and then a Wyandotte. Both are damp and resting under mum ready for a photocall later when they are officially cute. 7 more eggs to go. Hope they all hatch. Mum is on lock down to persuade her to sit the rest to give them the best chance. Blubby is backup in case Sheila abandons any eggs.

Probably a good job I have to go to work later.

Paces corridor with fag like 50s husband.

SeaShellsInTheMoonlight · 07/09/2011 09:14

I checked in at 5.30am this morning to see how the chicks were doing-so pleased that you have 3 already! Lost I agree-I want chickens even more now :)

Hong kong looks incredible, I hope you get to go!

We need to get together next year so I can perv over new cars, bell tents and icey tecs, though hey I might own such things myself by next camping season! I had thought somewhere like thistledown, but possibly more central? We need somewhere chilled and quiet that's for sure!! Such a shame nettletea isn't easier to get to :)

Pretty pleased to hand ds1 to the CM this morning-he was literally bouncing off walls!

notwavingjustironing · 07/09/2011 09:30

Again, moment of reality when I realise I'm hastily logging on to see someone's chickens, someone's mum's car number plate, details someone's theoretical three month sabbatical. ALL OF WHOM I'VE NEVER MET!

You couldn't make it up. Could you? Grin
