Gawd, the minimalists will kill us.....

It was Someone Else's idea, all right?

Carry on where you left off, be it owls, bins, sharks, tins of vodka, karaoke etc. [grain]

Its windy here! Glad I bought a big stake for our new tree as the poxy little one that came with it wouldn't have done anything!

Waiting for a few mum friends to come for coffee and cake - me and ds2 have been making yummy chocolate cupcakes! Smile

Hope MisSal and Slubber don't get blown away on their return...

Only 1 more killings then we will have caught up so I will be about a bit more in the evenings again!

Slubberdegullion · 12/09/2011 15:09

Hello windy folks, rheinmunster calling. I had the schnizel and the schnizel was good. In fact to dhs horror I couldn't fit it all in and had to give up towards the end.

Fnar

In campsite nine or ten. I lose count. Get this there are 700 pitches at this site and only two tents. Further evidence that the Germans really aren't into tent camping.

Weather lovely here. Sun and a breeze. Am about to crack on with the Cobb when I finish this beer.
Hope you are all ok and Sal has a safe trip back

Slubberdegullion · 12/09/2011 15:14

We rotterdam to hull overnight ferry on Thursday so fingers crossed that winds have died down by then .

Off to Monschau tomorrow for last camp.

Will not miss pitching the tent. Or stuffing sleeping bags

SeaShellsInTheMoonlight · 12/09/2011 15:48

Fnar fnar indeed Grin sometimes things are just too big...

So, ferry you say Slubber?! I hope the weather settles down for you by then!

I say bumbling, not bimbling....no idea how or why. I bumble when I'm pissed, asking every one if they are ok and having fun

Oybbk-totally agree, she is the oracle and rarely wrong. If love to know what she actually does/who she is iykwim, not in a stalkerish way but just because I find it all fascinating.

So "out there" really is going mental. Shame really as I recommend this site to new mums but I think I'll tell th to stick to the antenatal boards :) I haven't cried with laughter on mm for ages (other than you lot, but I suspect many of us are old skool anyway!)The funny threads kinda get lost now!

notwavingjustironing · 12/09/2011 16:32

I read through some threads with my jaw hanging open in disbelief. This really is the only place I would be bothered to post now. I can't think of a single occasion where we've come even close to disagreeing on anything.
if you don't count Losty nicking my halo

In fact, the frightening thing is the way we all seem to agree on the fundamental things in life. Not just tents.

Maybe we should try to organise a meetup that doesn't involve tents, otherwise, we've no chance of seeing each other before nearly the middle of next year!

brambleschooks · 12/09/2011 17:40

I cNt go out ther, it's too scary. And in rl out there my car nearly blew over.

Oberschnitzel slubber, I shall have a vat of moisturising cream ready for you back home to help you recover from sun exposure. All looks well. Am considering scrumping your apples.

Which idiot promised the children hand made pasta tonight. Meh.

YellowDinosaur · 12/09/2011 18:07

notwaving I guess the fact that we all seem to be pretty like minded might indicate that the sort of people who like camping are similar. Laid back but no taking of shit.

very very windy here (and dh isn't even home yet - ha ha ha). Dodging bins in road and some arse has nicked our caddy from our recycling bin when it blew over so we can't recycle bottles - give it back!!!! Angry

Another domestic goddess day here today. Make yummy chocolate cakes with ds2 - ocmedy moment making the icing though as recipe book said to whisk icing sugar, cocoa powder and butter together befor adding milk. Given that I only have a hand mixer it went EVERYWHERE! Ds2 did find it very funny though! So thought sod that and just chucked it all in together - it tasted absolutely fine. I can't be arsed with making things complicated when just chucking it all in at once has the same result.

Then we've had chicken soup made with leftover roast chicken and I'm in the process of making chutney with a load of apples my Mum brought up a week ago. No bread today though so only 9/10 of a halo needed here!

Funtimewincies · 12/09/2011 18:23

I've been trying out the weight watchers online thingy today as I can no longer ignore the 'baby weight' (if the baby was an elephant), especially as ds2 is nearly 2 years old Blush. I've also discovered that having an allotment means that I eat a lot of veg, but it also means that I eat a lot, full stop, because I can't abide waste so make extra food to use it up.

I'm not massive, but tipping into overweight and at 5', I'm now measuring 40-37-40 and have hit 10 stone so time to get to grips with it.

I'm still in denial about the beer and gin in a tine though Grin.

notwavingjustironing · 12/09/2011 19:13

Maybe that should be the title of the next thread

Camping;- "Laid Back But No Taking Of Shit" Grin

OP posts:
brambleschooks · 12/09/2011 19:27

No taking of shit, just schnitzel.

Would that be wiener schnitzel slubber.

Fnar.

lostinwales · 12/09/2011 20:44

Just having a mental image of bramble dipping slubber in a full body size vat of moisuriser, thought I'd share that with you.

I started weight watchers last week Funtimes, weigh in on Thursday. I think I might have a little more than you to lose though Blush. I think camping in Europe was my tipping point, all the beautiful camping elves without a spare ounce on them. I'm not even mentioning the women in Italy and France, it took a while for me to realise they were normal though. We seem to have lost sight of that in the UK now I am so many people are quite overweight. I had the nicest salad ever in McDonalds, it came with a little packet of skinny breadsticks and everything, and all the adults in there were having it men included. Sorry that was a mini rant, for goodness sake if you don't agree just ignore me and I won't mention it again, I'd be mortified to start the first disagreement!

Hold on tight then all of you in the wind, it's passed here now. Highlight of my day was discovering why you don't wear a long dress in windy weather Blush

MisSalLaneous · 12/09/2011 21:24

Warning: Long and boring post but I can't help myself. Feel free to skip - there's not actually anything of value in there, I just had to tell someone that would understand!

Here goes:

Helloooo!! Just finished catch up on all the great weekend chat - I need a glass of my newly acquired cheap wine stash to recover!

Well, first things first: We cheated. Majorly. Twice. Blush Well, were supposed to leave really, really early on Friday morning, then had a "stuff that" moment when we woke up and moved tunnel crossing later. We then drove most of the way up, but stopped at a hotel nearby as couldn't be bothered to get settled in the dark (any excuse, I love flash hotels). Worked so well, we decided to do the same thing on our return - cycled around area, stopped for coffees and lunch etc, then packed up and left around 4pm on Sunday. Drove until we got a hotel I liked tired, and had a leisurely day today. Had lunch and the obligatory chocolate buying session in Bruges. So really, this is supposed to be reporting back from my camping trip - of which I only really camping for 2 days and one night!

Now the important part: Camping. We'll def go back for a week in summer, that area is beautiful! Campsite was lovely, all green, a stream (but not near our pitch, so can be non-issue for littlies), fabulous children's playgrounds scattered throughout the site. A strange set-up really - I always thought it's private / remote but limited facilities, or good showers, washing machines, etc but people within reach and crowded. Here it had all the facilities you'd need for anything longer than 2 days, but done in such a way that you can still be private if you want to.

De Waard tent feedback: Saturday night we had the worst storm I've ever been in whilst being outside. It was like being in a disco all night - lightning flashes - at times you could see the whole area all lit up! Rain was like buckets for hours on end - I was amazed that it didn't start seeping / misting through after a while. Tent, however, did not even move. Except for the (loud!) sound of the rain and the bright flashes, you would not know there was a storm out there - it is one impressive stormproof tent, and Slubber, you'd love it.
However - and this is probably a good thing taking into account the amount we spent on this holiday - it's not right for us right now. It's big, really good quality canvas (belltent's fabric flimsy in comparison), but that does mean it takes longer to dry out so you'll need space to pitch in your garden if wet camp. Good space for your kitchen stuff in the area in front of bedroom pods thingies, and porch was big enough for us to tuck bikes away.

We hired bikes and a childseat for the two days, which was such a nice way to spend family time together. We're going to buy similar ones for school drop-off / weekend mornings.

Phew. That's me. If you got this far, sorry for mammoth post!

MisSalLaneous · 12/09/2011 21:30

Now back to normal posting. Thanks so much for all your well-wishes - made me smile!

Loved the German porking that was had. Read it all on Iphone in car back from Folkestone - dh now think we're all slightly insane as I kept laughing. Well, he possibly only thinks I'm insane, but I'm blaming dragging you all in it.

Glad to hear no-one had any storm damage, I worried a bit when I heard that UK weather was so bad too.

On diets. Full length hotel mirrors are bastards. I am now fully aware of the size of my arse. Immediate action needs to be taken. Starting tomorrow, of course. Well, except for chocolate and wine stash... Hmm, I can see the error somewhere in there. Maybe cycling will be a good start. That and avoiding subsidised work canteen.

lostinwales · 12/09/2011 21:47

Glad you had a great time MisSal, I think the idea of a holiday is to have a wonderful time not force yourself to camp as that was the plan and can be the only thing you are allowed to do. I am a little bit jealous of the lovely hotels and the brilliant storm in a cosy watertight tent.

Full length mirrors? Oh no we don't do those, I have hardly any mirrors, that way I always think I look beautiful! I am having a wine free week though because I drank it all on Saturday

MisSalLaneous · 12/09/2011 21:53

Thanks lost. :) I don't believe for a second you're flabby - I, on the other hand, haven't really done any exercise this century (not as much of an exaggeration as you might think!) Not a good thing.

YellowDinosaur · 12/09/2011 22:01

MisSal lovely to have you back! Glad you had fun and I second losty that holidays are for fun and if hotels and camping make it more fun then thats going to be the winner isn't it?

I lost 10lb last year with weight watchers online in 3 months. I found it really really good. I have however put most of it back on now - wine and cake and too much snacking really. I'm not huge - BMI teetering about 25 - but I'd feel a lot better if I lost the half stone I have put back on. Can't be arsed at the mo quite frankly though. I have toyed with the idea of ww again and I probably will do sometime. I also bought Jillian Michaels 30 day shred dvd and lost a couple of pounds int he 10 days or so that I did it properly. At the mo though I am accepting of the fact that I am no where near motivated enough and enjoying good food and wine without guilt. When I am motivated again I know I can do it but don't see the need to totally demoralise myself by not losing any because I'm not really trying.

Off now - the killing is about to start and its got dh and I totally hooked! We've caught up with all the episodes we had recorded on sky+ so now we'll have to be patient to find out exactly what is going on!

Oh and notwaving / brambles I'm liking 'laid back but no taking of shit only schnitzel' for the next thread [grain]

brambles how are the chicks today?

YellowDinosaur · 12/09/2011 22:05

MisSal cross posted - glad to see I have a fellow lazy cow couch potato here! Apart from the 30 day shred (briefly) and the race for life 5k I did in July (with no training) to raise money for cancer research in the name of my close friend with metastatic breast cancer I too am allergic to exercise! [grain]

MisSalLaneous · 12/09/2011 22:06

Thanks Yellow.

Yes yes re thread title, it's brilliant - meant to say then completely forgot by the time I caught up with all the posts!

notwavingjustironing · 12/09/2011 22:11

Hello Sal glad to have you back! Just goes to show it's good to "try before you buy" -it would have been an expensive tent roulette otherwise.

I too am a WW zealot but agree with Yellow , you've got to be in the zone for it to work.

Glad to hear Slubber wil be home soon. Is this thread getting too unwieldy for anyone yet ?

Bramble hope the littlies are all well and not blown away.

Hello to everyone else I've not mentioned!

OP posts:
brambleschooks · 12/09/2011 23:19

Welcome back sal. Storm tent envy.

Lathering up the goose grease in readiness...

Littlies gorgeous, tiny wing feathers starting to grow at the tips of their fluffy wings. Total space cadets. Now jumping on sheilas back as well as pecking he flaps. Long days in work for a couple of days then will do more photos. Hope to get them out on grass later this week if weather good.
