Gawd, the minimalists will kill us.....

It was Someone Else's idea, all right?

Carry on where you left off, be it owls, bins, sharks, tins of vodka, karaoke etc. [grain]

Hi losty, I've just posted on that thread. Unbelievable. Always loved her name and blog (I love otters). Her LL needs a slap :(

scaryt · 31/08/2011 22:09

random question of the night. I'm looking for a new car (no I'm not actually asking you to give me yours!). I'd like something that would fit my bike in the back (cannot abide that wobbly feeling having them hang off the back and have the strength of an underfed mouse in my upper body so the roof's a no go) anybody got anything spacious they'd recommend. I'm kind of looking at people carriers for size, I am aware that that is ridiculous as I have only one child. But hey, I like big cars.

Off to read about Gentle Otters.

Good to hear you didn't smell of stale wine today yellow!

scaryt · 31/08/2011 22:16

lost - I've not seen the thread and just begun reading the blog. Not sure I can really believe what I am reading. They rent a house and the landlord has NO responsibilities to make sure it is safe. Seriously?

YellowDinosaur · 31/08/2011 22:20

What is the gentle otters thread?

scaryt we have a vauxhall zafira and its great. Boot is big and there are 2 extra seats that you can put up if you need- we find that really helpful for when grandparents come up to stay and also when the boys have other kids back to play. If you only have 1 child you could make it even bigger as the back seat can be partially collapsed too. When I went away with the boys for the night a couple of weeks ago dh got his bike in and the boys bikes with the camping stuff although wouldn't be big enough for us with my bike and stuff for longer.

lostinwales · 31/08/2011 22:24

As far as I'm aware scaryt the landlord does have responsibilities just that they seem to be able to get away without doing what they are responsible for and the feudal system seems to be stronger than the rights of the tenant. aware that I have accidentally strayed off camping, but I think I'm strong enough

We have been looking at a Skoda something as it will have a lot more space for camping gear (one track minds!). Octavia or something? I just know I have grown up when I can look at a Skoda without remembering all the jokes from the 80's.

lostinwales · 31/08/2011 22:26

For Yellow Nothing to do with otters at all really, although I have a soft spot for them even though one ate my duck.

scaryt · 31/08/2011 22:32

Thanks for car talk. Hmm will look at Zafira. DH drives a Skoda Octavia but I can't get my bike in. Other than that would wholeheartedly recommend. Super reliable and a really nice drive.

I think I would like a higher driving position as well. Not the calmest of drivers since landing on my head in a car accident many moons ago. Nothing short of miraculous that everyone in the car and on the motorway came away unscathed.

I'm sorry, did you just say an otter ate your duck....

(I know the dot dot dot is poor grammar but what would be an appropriate way of ending that sentence?)

lostinwales · 31/08/2011 22:41

Does your DH have the estate version? I thought we could jam a bike in their somehow. I agree with the higher driving position though, I had an accident a long long time ago now but I still get very nervous on motorways, especially around stupid bastard sleepy lorry drivers.

Yes, an otter took a big chunk of my beautiful duck Duke for dinner last month. (There is a picture of him on my profile). We think it was a she otter as there is one on the river behind the house with babies. Duke had refused to get off the village pond at bedtime and was left out with a 'well it's your own fault if you get eaten' from the village miller (they stay on the pond a lot). In the morning a fisherman saw the otter leaving the pond area and then they found what was left of my duck. He was a fabulous character but that's nature for you.

lostinwales · 31/08/2011 22:44

I did just have a big snort though at

I'm sorry, did you just say an otter ate your duck....

Your right, it's probably quite an unusual thing to announce! Wink Round here in the wild west you are spoilt for choice of animals that will happily eat your livestock. You should see what a badger can do to a chicken coop.

scaryt · 31/08/2011 22:59

We have the hatchback version, I much prefer the shape of the estate.

Duke was a lovely looking duck. Smile

We have sets of badgers behind our house. The buggers. Knacker our garden on a regular basis and made a neighbour's unsafe, but as yet they haven't eaten any of us.

YellowDinosaur · 31/08/2011 23:05

I just snorted at 'I'm sorry, did you just say an otter ate your duck....' too Grin[grain] Sorry that an otter did, in fact, eat your duck!

Just read some of the GentleOtter thread and blog and I'm horrified that that can happen in this day and age. Totally horrific. I really hope she kicks ass because the landlord CANNOT be allowed to get away with this

lostinwales · 31/08/2011 23:08

He was a beauty, he has left two wives and five very attractive sons, although the lady who hatched the eggs was hoping to get some good egg laying ducks like the mums, not five food guzzling noisy boys like their father but there you go.

I too like the look of the hatchback. We have a Multipla at the moment as it was the only car we could find to fit three car sets across the back. I think it is gods punishment for having more children than sensible and am rejoicing that the two older boys don't need booster seats anymore and I can have a nicer car again.

scaryt · 31/08/2011 23:18

OK I snorted at "I think it is gods punishment for having more children than sensible."

brambleschooks · 31/08/2011 23:30

Home. Turfed potential broody three off the nest. Do these hens have no concept of seasonality?

Clinking gin and saluting slubber. Off to read of the gentle one.

pmsl at 'In the meantime, shove down a bit more ham' Grin

I have 2 small boys asking me 'mummy whats funny on the computer? Can I see? Can I can I can I??' How to explain?? Grin

Slubber looks like notwaving has it in hand - I am off out now but if can't get it sorted then I will have a look later on my return. Good luck finding non-forrin camping gaz!

brambleschooks · 01/09/2011 14:25

Ham meister this is England. This is England.

Hoping that not wqving's grasp of forrin is better than mine. All I do is giggle at ausfahrt and Wanger.

Dunno if this will help:

It's camping alpenblick on the b308 at linden berg. It does keep saying camping gaz and Bodensee in it's forrin blurb.

Will go for more googling. Fire up the Cobb.
