Gawd, the minimalists will kill us.....

It was Someone Else's idea, all right?

Carry on where you left off, be it owls, bins, sharks, tins of vodka, karaoke etc. [grain]

I miss our old camper van - there was so much space for other camping essentials (like buns, bunting, fishing nets, kitchen sinks.....Wink) and they were just there, waitin for a sunny day and a sense of adventure.

F1lthym1ndedvixen · 20/08/2011 09:34

we are off to an all-day music fest; Should be nice sitting in the drizzle sunshine, dancing madly being plagued by wasps, relaxing on the grass being plagued by our children demanding money for crap.

notwavingjustironing · 20/08/2011 10:15

Sorry Losty that was a bit lame wasnt it!

Car packed to the rafters round two small children off to hopefully sunny Wales - will be back later with an erect tent and a pre- mixed aperitif [grain]

Hello all! Feeling better after an early night and lie in this am. Dh has taken the boys out so I'm off to get dressed in a min and join them.

I'm def of for the night camping on Sun - have found a couple of sites with space so its just a question of farm or beach to decide!

The wild camping is probably a bit of a cheats version - its an organised set up in some woods near us but there are no facilities / organised pitches. The give you a saw to chop up dead wood that you can find to make a campfire, and a spade to dig your very own toilet! Think its a pretty big area so you may well not come into contact with many others hence my anxiety about doing it on my own with 2 small children. Definately looks good though and worth a look!

I have been looking for a new pop up / easy to pitch tent to take the boys as have realised that my 2 man pop up will have us sleeping on top of each other and makes no sleep more likely. So tomorrow we're going to take our regular tent. Been surfing this am and ahve found an Outwell fusion which looks like a 4 man pop up with SIG and HH 4000 so looks pretty good! Have any of you seen these? I knwo everyone raves about the Quechua pop ups but this outwell one looked to be similar to the base seconds xxl (4 berth with 1 bedroom) quechua and a better spec? Have found one for £99 against RRP £189 in Argos and have it reserved until Mon - what do you think? Should I go for it? I've had a look elsewhere for one and the cheapest I could find otherwise is £134.50 incl delivery so this seems to be a good deal.

brambleschooks · 20/08/2011 12:46

Go for it YD! Glad you're feeling better. I'm hoping to go off with my two next week - possibly the llyen, but is the forecast looking better for the Dorset area? I will be taking my base seconds xxl which has dropped in price since I bought it. humph.

The sourdough bread is on a slow bake, I have enjoyed making it using only natural yeast from the air and letting it develop over a few days, mixing kneading and rising for 24 hours. Woman of the forest emoticon. Wonder if slubber's lichen would add tang? I was a bit meh at not having a cobb to cook it in though, and am considering asking DH to build me a bread oven in the garden. .

SeaShellsInTheMoonlight · 20/08/2011 15:04

Glad you are feeling better Yellow :)

Brambles-we have clear blue skies and hot after showers this morning, I have no idea what the week will hold though!

We are having a chilled weekend-there had been talk of a couple of nights camping, but I think we are all exhausted by our first week with new job and new Childminder!

ReshapeWhileDamp · 20/08/2011 17:00

How long did you leave the sourdough batter out before realising it had caught some wild yeast, Brambles? I've always meant to make a starter but am not organised enough to keep it alive.

Glad Yellow's feeling better and has got camping booked! Fingers crossed/thumbs held for good weather. It pelted down here this morning, and I'm getting ever more nervous about our festival next week...

Operation Big Boy Pants continues - mostly good but with some craptastic fails (poo on the (fabric) sofa, anyone?).

brambleschooks · 20/08/2011 17:18

Back from a very spooky river canoe. I've decided I don't like murky water wot could be deep and goes fast under bridges. Pretty though.

The sourdough starter took three days to get going. I reckon it was the raisins I put in on day two that did it. It's a really tangy taste, going to pick some nettles and fry them and then mix with sourcream and melted cheese for on top. I might skewer a few squirrels too, just for the nutty bite.

YellowDinosaur · 21/08/2011 11:29

Seashells hope you're enjoying your weekend chilling and that the weather has improved for you! Wouldn't want to hear you had been washed away!

Brambles that canoe trip certainly sounds spooky. Heres to some crystal clear water in lovely open rivers with sunshine (or whatever floats your boat ha ha ha)

Reshape fingers crossed for operation big boy pants! We had the 'clever boy wee wee dance' for whenever ds1 went in the potty - he seeme to like it! [grain]

Well we are off! Weather looks great and we're all excited! Going into Corbridge all together for a family picnic and play by the river, then dh will come and help me get the tent up (hopefully I won't need it as I want to be able to do this by myself) and he's going to cycle home. I am all sorted and most importantly have my gin in a tin! See you tomorrow!

notwavingjustironing · 21/08/2011 15:16

Just dipping in with a rubbish reception! Monsoon weather yesterday so bad I couldn't put the awning up or set the cooker up - today absolutely boiling boys running around without t shirts and solar fairy lights duly installed [wunk]

Have a good trip yellow hi everyone else off to read a book in scorchio weather Smile

I put on my NEW floaty summer dress yesterday and goddamit it was TIGHT. Damn you Kuchen. Talöking of which I also consumed my first slice of authentic Black Forest Gateaux a few days ago after experiencing my first authentic German spa with REAL NAKED GERMAN PEOPLE. I can-t remember the last time I saw a real naked penis that wasn-t my husband-s but see them I did! LOTS

Off to europa park tomorrow fur de kinder and then heading down to Bodensee for some lake action.

God knows when I will post again. Oh and Chippy the golden arches wifi top tip was a LIE. VERBOTEN here in De.

Funtimewincies · 21/08/2011 17:56

Back from sunny(ish) Shropshire and Grin at meths squirrels and german willies and Shock at Dorset flooding.

Ds2 screamed for large parts of Thursday night but luckily the site wasn't busy and the boys slept really well Friday and Saturday, including through a thunderstorm Hmm. Mind you, so did I Blush.

I'll find a link to the site if anyone is interested. It was really relaxed and friendly (no nazi wardens) and great for the children. And there was a pub next door with good, reasonably priced food and real beer. Much happiness all round Grin.

All that's left to do is the washing and sorting out of stuff

F1lthym1ndedvixen · 21/08/2011 18:34

oh I have been camping in frieburg - when i was about 17! It's a LOVELY town. And IIRC, really hot when we visited too.

I have been doing fake camping all weekend, to try and make myself feel better. Hence outdoor music fest on Sat, a bbq and evening round the firepit last night (and way too much wine....)
and swimming at a local outdoor pool today. Which was BLOODY cold.

MisSalLaneous · 21/08/2011 19:29

Guten Abend liebe Slubber! Grin / Shock at German willies. Your trip sounds most wonderful, I have to say. Not because of nakedness, of course. Uhm.

Good luck and have fun to everyone starting their camps, and welcome back, Funtime.

Filthy, love your fake camping idea!

After what must be the longest dither known to mankind, I eventually ordered, oh yes, actually ordered my axe yesterday morning. Got a small Gransfors hand hatchet. Very excited, can't wait for the delivery.

WeesaD · 21/08/2011 21:23

Was supposed to be going to Wickstead next weekend on a SingleWithKids weekend - and they say that I can't go because I have a baby! Angry

She sleeps through and I've camped with her already and she was a dream. I am sooo disappointed....

So anyone got any good suggestions for next weekend?

brambleschooks · 21/08/2011 21:24

Ach meine liebchien, es ist zehr gut.

Frieburg sounds zehr gut and zehr varm. Raised eyebrows at willies. Glad you are having a fantastic bulous time and am keenly awaiting the slideshow.

Love fake camping.

Today we have been kayak surfing on Anglesey. Torrential downpour on the way there but it cleared for the sea. Much fun, including changing on the beach in the new Quechua beach popup with zip front. :D so I feel as if I've done a little fake camping too. Forecast for next few days is not good. So many plans undone :( think we may have to plan European oddessey next year.

MisSalLaneous · 21/08/2011 22:20

Weesa, how gutting! Where are you based? If not too far and if still space, you could consider the MN camp (see thread in Camping) this coming weekend?

Bramble, I'm hoping to go all Forrin next year too. All fingers and toes to be crossed (I'll beg if I have to) for the taster Dutch long weekend, as I'm hoping to use that to support my case for 2012.

brambleschooks · 21/08/2011 22:34

How frustrating weesa.

Am awaiting slubbers return and advice. I have such good memories of summer in the Loire ...

Oblomov · 21/08/2011 23:06

Is this the 'Glampers' Section ? because it shouldn't be. Just got back from 7 nights caravaning in Dorset. Lovely weather, then chucked it down for last few days. Came home a day early.
Is that considered 'Glamping'? Thought not !!
Yes we cadac'ed. Yes we drank rose ,of an evening, does that make us glampers? I think not, if you had seen our torrents of water running through our awning floor, and us all laughing at running out of papers to mop it up. Glamping ? I think not.

scaryt · 21/08/2011 23:45

Love your wooden erections bramble.

lost - did all 5 of you really tour Europe in you quechua pop up?

Well, just come back from the festival (which was brill) and really enjoyed my first weekend camping. Even without showers working (I thank you creator of the babywipe). I've also come back with a sourdough starter, the lovely baker said he would email me on what on earth to do with it now!!! Do you reckon I really could bake bread in my cobb. How cool would that be?

The campingaz bivouac stove was marvellous. Oooh the ssssssss, click, whoooooooosh was a beautiful thing.

Gosh naked spas, you really are in forrin Slubber.
