Gawd, the minimalists will kill us.....

It was Someone Else's idea, all right?

Carry on where you left off, be it owls, bins, sharks, tins of vodka, karaoke etc. [grain]

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaack!!

Cannot recommend Bedgebury enough, t'was idyllic (although there were v. strange goings-on with haybales and car windows, more of which later), we had winebag rose and barcardi in a tin around t'campfire, the girls ran wild, we fed cheese to a real live husky and I put the bell up all by myself (and was complimented on my 'magnificent erection' by the lads n' dads group who were camping across the field from us!)!

Whoever ended up in charge of the weather gods, thangyewvermuch for putting in a good word, we had splendid weather and the promised thunderstorm on Sunday did not materialise. First time I've put the tent away dry all year!

Ooh, and we roadtested the tarp. You old hands will no doubt point and laugh, but I was quite pleased with it. Pics to follow.

Brambles, you are legend. [grain]

Now to catch up with the rest of the thread. Am v. impressed by mentions of natural yeasty things. I've wanted to have a go at that, but living in London I'm a bit scared about what else would end up in there if I leave it out...

ReshapeWhileDamp · 22/08/2011 09:10

Ooh good, the thread's woken up again! Grin

Agog at real live willies. Camping in Forrin does seem to bring you up against willies, what with the Speedo Zone in France and the spa thing elsewhere. We are also going Forrin in sept (not camping, tho I did try to book a (shh!) glampy yurt for a few days) in Portugal, to introduce DS2 to his extended family. Apparently the area where I booked us in for a few nights does hot spring spas too, so perhaps it'll be willies-a-go-go, who knows?

Slubber, do you have to wear Boden in Bodensee? Wink

Looking forward to Lovecat's tarp pics, as we didn't manage to get ours up this weekend. Spent yesterday afternoon on the river on my parents' narrowboat, chilling out and watching loads of families paddling past in canoes and kayaks! Can't wait until the boys are older and we can do that too.

Right. I'm off to do a NO Rain Dance for the next week. Anyone care to join me?

Funtimewincies · 22/08/2011 09:29

Weesa - we camped here if it's anywhere near you. Loads of children and babies, everyone very relaxed and tolerant of little ones. No-one batted an eyelid when ds1 (aged 4) ran back from the showers, stark naked except for his wellies, whirling his towel around his head and shouting 'everyone can see my willy' Blush. I'd really recomend it Grin.

I hope that you simpered properly at the compliment lovecat Grin.

muchostinky · 22/08/2011 09:50

Morning everyone! I am glad people are back, was a bit quiet over the weekend.

Very proud of your erection lovecat and Bedgebury looks lovely - might have to look into there for next year.

MisSalLaneous · 22/08/2011 10:52

Good morning all.

Grin muchostinky, now that is a comment I bet you lovecat hasn't heard before. Well, I hope so.

lovecat · 22/08/2011 11:40

:o:o MisSal :o

Bedgebury rocked. I wish it was open for longer than August...

Am trying to find my usb cable for the camera... I put it in a safe place, I know I did...

F1lthym1ndedvixen · 22/08/2011 12:10

Weesa how VERY silly of them and illogical.

Is bedgebury a festival?

I loves festivals, me. But they all seem to involve a 6 hour drive for us.

We ought to have an '''MN campers endorse...' campsite review section on here eh?

lovecat · 22/08/2011 12:41

Bedgebury

They have a communal tepee on the hill at the top end of the site, and on Saturday nights there's live music and the local pub sets up a kitchen for food/drinks.

Chicken curry n' chips under the stars with a cold beer while some local teenagers played Muse/Elbow covers (they were actually v. good, as was the food) and all the kids ran about dancing/playing... would highly recommend it.

CaptainNancy · 22/08/2011 13:08

Oh, this thread moves too quickly for me!

Sorry to see you've got rid of your campervan FMF... do you still have the boat?

Weesa- that is a ridiculous rule to make, all babies are different (my 2nd camped from 4mo, without any problems whatsoever... my 1st screamed us home from a campsite at 5am at almost 2yo )

F1lthym1ndedvixen · 22/08/2011 13:54

CapN - yes we do :)It's like camping...but with hot water and a flushing loo and an oven...but not much electrics or heating . So evenings are blankets and tilly lamps and wine and led fairylights and books.

F1lthym1ndedvixen · 22/08/2011 13:55

we didn't get rid of the campervan - well not intentionally Wink. It was in an accident and written off :(

F1lthym1ndedvixen · 22/08/2011 13:56

oh lovecat that does look rather gorgeous. Bet you have to book about 3 years in advance!

CaptainNancy · 22/08/2011 14:36

Oh no! that's horrible fmf Sad

F1lthym1ndedvixen · 22/08/2011 16:52

it was a coupla years ago (but gawd i miss it)

SeaShellsInTheMoonlight · 22/08/2011 19:33

Hello! Good to hear you all survived the weekend :)
Oblomov-we aren't all glampers here Wink plus, I've got a Cobb

Bedgebury looks lovely-there seem to be a lot of the more chilled sites nearer London Envy

Hey there slubber! Sound like you are having fun and seeing the sights

Mondays come round quickly with this working milarky. Wine o clock!

Oblomov · 22/08/2011 20:39

I know Seashells Wink
Actually I don't consider myself a Glamper. It is is quite offensive. Just becasue we have lots of luxuries in our carravn doesn't make us glampers.

Have I admitted thta we have a toaster, an airer and clothes pegs, and ..... a hoover. all inherited from the caravans previous owner !!

Kingsroadie · 22/08/2011 20:45

Anyway what is a glamper? Is there an agreed definition? Shall we make one? Grin

We also have a Cobb. Cadac? What is that? [wunk]

Funtimewincies · 22/08/2011 21:06

I thought that a glamper was just someone who camped in a tent which was all set up, ready and waiting, rather than one you take with you iyswim.

Trangiaaaaaaaaaaa

YellowDinosaur · 22/08/2011 21:11

Hello all! I survived my first solo+boys trip! Only thing I will say is that with current tent I am not going away with them on my own for only 1 night again - took all morning this am to pack up and I was ruthless with what I took! Boys were really good and lovely but even for someone who loves camping it felt like I'd messed up on the jobs:fun ratio a bit. Couldn't get tent up on my own either - thankfully dh came with us and helped before cycling home. Gin in a tin helped too! Grin. Good little campsite though - charged me a fiver and couldn't have been further from the camping nazi experience. Little old lady on a golf trolley came round about 7pm and if we hadn't been there I think we would have got away without paying! It was only because I waved at her that she came over at all! And it wasn'teven busy. Gorgeous weather too. CHeck it out here if any of you are looking for a campsite in Northumberland - good kiddie things to do within 10 mins drive too with a castle and a river to paddle in.

Anyway HELLO SLUBBER!!!! Yes, I did shout but given that I am gobby I am hoping it reaches Germany! All sounds good esp Kuchen and pils. less Smile about lots of penises in one place - fine when attached to my dh but lets face it they're not pretty are they! [grain]. Wouldn't put me off though [grain]

Funtime glad you had a fun time (ha ha ha I'm so funny! Grin). Thanks for the link for that site - sounds great and not too much of a schlepp from us. Pmsl at 'everyone can see my willy!!!!' GrinGrin[grain]

Filthy Smile at fake camping!

MisSal Yeeha to the axe!!!

Oblomov we're taking the p*ss Grin. Sure someone has pointed this out already!

lovecat sounds fab - glad you had such a lovely time (and [grain] at the marvellous erection - about my humour level there!). Bedgebury looks amazing - a shame its so far from us...

Anyways, I could use your collective help again - don't sorry this time I am not sending you into scary AIBU shouty ranty territory - still safely here in camping Smile - over here...

YellowDinosaur · 22/08/2011 21:12

Obviously hello tp everyone else but you have been so chatty in the 24 hours that I have been away that I couldn't remember everything else! [grain]

ReshapeWhileDamp · 22/08/2011 21:31

Roman campsite sounds lovely, Yellow. Grin And Bedgebury does too - have bookmarked it for future reference. Do you have to pawn your firstborn to get in?

Am wrestling with damsons that I scrumped from Thames Water (they were growing next to a mooring point near a lock, only accessible by water). I thought that a recipe for Sweet Pickled Damsons sounded lovely, but it's bombed big time. Sad Am not cut out to be a good little farmwife, it seems.

I'm stupidly excited by Sal's axe. Do we get photos of the shiny new toy?

Kingsroadie · 22/08/2011 21:55

Hello Yellow - glad it went well (apart from job:fun ratio being a bit off!)

Also forgot to mention the german penis viewing by Slubber - a sight I would have (not) liked to have seen! Grin

Funtime - yes perhaps that is what glamping is - so we can safely take all manner of bunting and fairy lights and as long as we have our own tent then we are most definitely not glampers. [grain]

Kingsroadie · 22/08/2011 21:56

PS - I have just had an email from the iceytek woman (coolboxuk or something) saying someone has returned an orange 40L as they would prefer a mango and are going to wait for it to arrive. Wouldn't be any of you would it? Grin

MisSalLaneous · 22/08/2011 22:04

I had a proper long post and then the internet ate it up.

Bedgebury looks lovely, Lovecat. A shame it's only August - I'm planning to do The Deed and cut the hole for the wood stove after BH weekend, so hoping to do some late camping at the end of September and maybe October too. It will probably be one of the normal suspects like BB Wood, Wowo, Forgewood etc.

Chance that dh might have to go abroad (not to Free Willy Land, I hope hasten to add), so can't book before that's final. I have a lot of respect for some of you going on your own. I revert back to being a helpless little girly when camping. Except for the fires and the axe, of course. Oh, and I'm not little or girly. Hmm, now that I think about it, I'm just lazy when camping and need dh there to do the hard jobs. Lazy better than pathetic, right?

Glamping. Ah, I couldn't care less what people call me, really, but I also think of it as the prepitched tent or yurt set-up. I have bunting, fairy lights (somewhere, can't find it this year) and a canvas tent, but then I boil my water on a kelly kettle and smell like smoke, so probably don't qualify anyway. Glamping prob the camping equivalent of a fancy b&b now insisting it's a boutique property.

Axe - I'm ridiculously excited too, and I can only tell you lot as people not getting the whole camping thing would just not understand. They might also add my name to the People To Watch Out For list. I can give you a preview, Reshape. Here: Hand Hatchet. Once I've got mine, I'll bore you with a real-life photo.

Yellow, will go and have a look at your thread now. Tried earlier but then internet dropped. Don't know what's up with our connection at the moment, it's annoying.

Phew, this is a novel I'm writing here. Will shut up now.

MisSalLaneous · 22/08/2011 22:10

Oh, forgot to say: One of the books my boss gave me the other day was the Cool Camping Glamping one, and there are some lovely looking places in there. If I had unlimited funds, I'd do that over the colder months and proper camping in summer.
