The Glass of Wine, The Campfire and The Awfully Big Adventure

We've all blethered on pleasantly on Seashells' lovely previous thread and, with the school holidays approaching, lots of us are about to start our summer adventures( not all of which are in tents....!) This thread is for us all to check back in and generally keep in touch. So we've packed up our Icey-Teks and our Tarps and our Death Socks, gently doused the burning embers of our planning campfire and rinsed out the wine glasses.

We're ready for our Awfully Big Adventure.

Come and talk about yours here (even if you're staying put!)

Blimey, I have no chance of catching up on posts since yesterday evening! We're off, finally. SIMs velcro'd together, one over-excited boy and one small wriggly one about to be car-seated. The amount of faffing just for one night...! We'd stay longer but DH has an Important Meeting on thurs afternoon. Suppose I could always suggest he goes to work from the tent. Grin

Anyway, this is our Awfully Big Inaugural Adventure. We are staying about 5 miles away, in a village we know well. Blush

SeaShellsMyDogSmells · 27/07/2011 15:44

Reshape-enjoy! We camp really close by too as we have little ones-it still feels like a holiday :)

Quenelle · 27/07/2011 16:20

Have fun Reshape. And if you're all enjoying yourselves why couldn't your DH go to work from the tent? My dad did it a few times when we camped at half term and stuff.

Ola notwaving. Hope it's stopped raining for you.

notwavingjustironing · 27/07/2011 17:34

Ooh Reshape am very jealous would still like to be under canvas instead of looking forward to the prospect of another rendition of the Penguin Song scheduled for later .....

Waves to everyone else it's too hard to keep up at the moment with limited 3G time .... Grin

hello all.

Have a great time Reshape.

Has the weather improved then notwaving?

Lucycat · 27/07/2011 18:00

slubber when are you off?

Our kids are still at school! the summer will be well and truly over by the time they are finished - mind you hopefully the weather will have improved in France as it is truly shocking at the moment Sad

Slubberdegullion · 27/07/2011 18:04

Week Sunday Lucy. Can't believe your two are still at school!

Weather in Germany/Austria equally bobbins atm. A few degrees higher than here but with great big thunder clouds all over the shop.

Looking on the Europe weather map Tunisia was looking good so we might end up there.

Lucycat · 27/07/2011 18:12

Libya is quite warm too I believe Smile

Thet finish on Friday - dd1 is in yr6 so it has been non stop leavers' parties / trips/summer concerts and the big tear jerker of the year - the leaver's assembly on Friday afternoon.

Then we are off early next week Smile nothing booked yet apart from out first night across the channel this site sooo much cheaper than Bien Assise where we've stayed before.

Slubberdegullion · 27/07/2011 18:20

How exciting. So are you doing a 'where the mood takes us' trip too?

I spent a stupid amount of time drooling at Austrian sites last night. They all look so fantastically advanced on what we are used to in N Wales.

lostineurope · 27/07/2011 18:26

Lucycat you may well see us moving in the other direction. We just had DS1's leavers assembly, I howled, take tissues!

Trying to book www.campasun.eu for Mas de Pierredon but the woman on the phone will only allow booking via the website. What a faff using my iPhone, goodness only knows what charges and I can't do any further up on the journey until I know the next point. Still in our quest to try local alcohol I have had Grappa (whoooof) and am feeling quite mellow!

JetLi · 27/07/2011 18:30

Have a fab time Reshape Grin
I have done zero packing due to PITA but beautiful baby
I am now Too Knackered
Site looks good Lucy

SeaShellsMyDogSmells · 27/07/2011 18:44

Grin lost - your travels updates could be entitled "lost in Europe, found in the bar. A foreigners's guide to regional alcoholic beverages" Wink

Slubberdegullion · 27/07/2011 18:59

I need an interational guide of local beverages. lost where are you again? notwaving is in somewhere Spanish (Corsica?) drinking Vodka and fanta [classy] and lost is in (Italy?) drinking Grappa.

Slubberdegullion · 27/07/2011 19:01

okey dokey

Grappa is an alcoholic beverage, a fragrant, grape-based pomace brandy of Italian origin.

losty is almost certainly somewhere in Italy.

Lucycat · 27/07/2011 19:08

We shall start with beer, then move to the white wines of Loire (maybe) then onto Burgundy (maybe) down to Languedoc for more reds.

wine under canopy will feature heavily Grin

Funtimewincies · 27/07/2011 19:13

I'm going to the Great British Beer Festival at Earl's Court next week. We're down south visiting MIL and she's agreed to babysit Grin. Dh and I haven't been since pre-children (in the days when it was held at Olympia) so we're stupidly excited.

Have fun reshape Smile.

I'd like to nominate sangria as the devil's own work, followed closely by the sort of home-made punch found at family BBQs.

Quenelle · 27/07/2011 19:37

Hi all. Short post because of stupid BB double posting - just wanted to say Slubber that DH has returned today from 3 days in Munich and the weather was great, nothing like as reported. If you haven't been to Bavaria before it's definitely worth the trip. Fab beer too, in VERY large glasses!

Ooooh Lucy. Sounds great. All that lovely wine and lovely French parts too.

OK when this thread gets too big can the next one be titled 'what I am drinking in or near my tent'.

Funtimes, it's so good when you get a free pass isn't it. Beet festival sounds excellent.

Quenelle, Hope to visit Bavaria on loop back home via Austria. So good to hear of good hot temperatures. And large beer glasses.

Oh yes, Munich is fantastic city, I'd live there like a shot. Beer fantastic. Lots of lovely beer gardens (theres fab one in a park by a huge pagoda or chinese tower I seem to recall... through a beer fuddled haze...?

Lots of enormous sausages too.

Slubber- will you be visiting Innsbruck? Theres a v nice campsite on outskirts. And you must visit the Hot lake mmm

In fact all of the thermal heated lakes are lovely (average water temp 21-25 degrees!). Useful info here on playgrounds facilties etc lakes

YellowDinosaur · 27/07/2011 21:15

Hello all!

I am excited as I am now off work until 16th August Yippee!!!!!! Celebrated by taking the boys to a local pub for tea as there is a fab beer garden and the sun was shining. All good and boys had a lovely time charging round like mad things. Then ds1 fell outof the car getting in to go home, broke his glasses which then cut his face. Less good. So I hot footed it off back to work to 'borrow' some glue to stick it all back together. He's asleep now although feels a bit sorry for himself. Hopefully it will all be fine and we'll be able to get new glasses in time for heading off to my parents on Friday.

Tomorrow we are sorting out all the camping stuff and doing things like getting the camping gas filled up. Dh will finally discover all the random essential camping stuff I have bought over the last few months - thinking I'm going to employ the 'didn't really expect it to arrive!' line Grin

Sounds like you all have some fantastic camping trips planned. We have 5 days in the lakes starting from next Wed and I'm very excited!
